I miss buttons, knobs, sliders, switches and dials. Real physical haptics and not artificial haptic feedback.
Touchscreens can be useful and are incredible for some things but the trend to replace all tactile buttons and switches with a flat featureless piece of plastic or glass feels like technology just for the sake of it.
Touchscreens should never be used in cars for any function that you might need to use while in motion. Forcing people to take their eyes off the road to use the heater controls, or turn on a radio, is absolute insanity in design.
Thank you all for your comments, favourites and support for my street photography. Take care.

I made the mistake of reading the news this morning. An Internet meme from the game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, came to mind. "Ah shit, here we go again!"
The self-proclaimed "president of peace" has bombed more countries than any other president and now attacked two sovereign nations with the expressed purpose of regime change.
The history of the United States of America interfering in foreign regime change is not exactly a good one. The risk of creating another power vacuum for extremist groups to rise up again, as happened in the aftermath of the US war against Iraq, is incredibly high.
From the speech that the "president of peace" made, it sounds like he expects the people of Iran to rise up and take power and that he has no plan to prevent a power vacuum from occurring. I hope that I am wrong. The people of Iran of endured enough suffering already!
Hope... that's all that I have left.

I couldn't resist playing with the tilt on this escalator shot. The title, which also happens to be a great Evanescence song, is not to do with going underground - there is no underground from this escalator in Glasgow Central Station. It simply goes from ground level at one end of the station to ground level at the other end. A short escalator.
Humanity, however, is 'going under' with our addiction to social media algorithms that are driven by engagement, and where hate garners more engagement than love.
Wherever you are in the world, take care, share hope, share compassion and share love.
We can make the world a better place for everyone if we act with kindness.

Coming to you from the new replacement PC which, so far, appears to be behaving itself.
I am taking it slow setting it up to my liking though. My limit for coping with change/issues is very tiny with my CPTSD. Slow and steady, I hope, will win the race though!
I hope that you are all having a great week my dear Flickr friends. Take care.

Street photography from Glasgow, Scotland, captured on a very (RARE) warm and sunny day in March 2025.
Out of frame is a 'flash mob' choir but I was more taken by just how many people were not content with experiencing the event as it was, in person, but rather through their screens.
A modern version of a periscope to get a better view, a recording for prosperity or are we just so addicted to our screens that we cannot experience life without them?
Now, as if it wasn't bad enough that screens have enveloped our lives, AI images, videos and music are starting to swallow our enjoyment of real human art and artistry.
We have the technology to set ourselves free and yet we create technology to further enslave us. We are a paradox.

I'm not saying that Oscar Wilde was wrong, far from it, but in this case the art is definitely imitating the life. Our smartphone obsessive culture.

...like my father before me"
For me, and each day I discovered many Star Wars fans, the character of Boba Fett was one of the more charismatic and eye-attractive, even though that on the originals Episode V and VI he had only four lines of dialogue, and six-and-a-half minutes of screentime.
But after that, an entire cult was developed after him and and all the Mandalorian creed. Was it the helmet, the armor, I don't know, but a whole fandom was over there, in all generations. The new series, starting with The Mandalorian, and then The Book of Boba Fett, have stated that they are truly appreciated by the Star Wars fans.

In my humble opinion, The Mandalorian has been the most creative and intelligent in the Star Wars universe.
This is my rendition to The Star Wars day, May the 4th be with you!

I reckon the lady on the right has given up trying to persuade the others to put their phones down and is reaching in the bag for hers...
My Kids always seem to have there face pointed at some sort of screen, so its not that hard to get a faceless portrait.
Not really happy with my entry this week, but I do like the light. I really struggled to pin down any ideas for what was a really great theme, so its time to move on, bring on week 20.
It was nice to see Cleo and Deuce have some quality screentime! They've been there since the beginning so it's nice to have the subplot star these two.
After the fifth time trying to upload this twat, I finally have the first order up.
Be sure to stick around at the end or just skip there because I made two extra figures :)
Here we have
Captain Phaseinandoutofthemovie
General Nazi
The New Boba Fett
What SnowTroopers? Were they in the movie?
Squad and Officer troopers in 2 seconds in the movie (congrats guys, phasma had more screentime than you, ya wankers)
Stormtroopers- they are awesome
flametroopers- other than burning objects, you guys are useless as this dead body in my dorm....
tie pilot- I have no idea why I made you
and lastly, the heavy trooper. They are pretty cool not gonna lie
so here is the video lol
I'm sure everyone remembers the Imperial tank which had some screentime during the ambush on Jedha in Rogue One.
The TX-225 GAVw (Groud Assault Vehicle, wheeled) "Occupier" is a tracked vehicle produced by Rothana Heavy Engineering, used by Imperial forces as a patrol and transport vehicle. It has a crew of three (Commander, driver and gunner/technician) and armed with six Dymek MK 2e/w laser cannons, two pairs in the rotating turrets on the sides and one pair fixed in the front.
I originally wanted to slightly modify the official Lego set but when I saw a close-up of the tracks during the movie I was really excited as a tracked SW vehicle combines both my interests, Star Wars and WWII-era armored fighting vehicles. With the availability of some detailed images and a cutaway (really useful!) from the new Rogue One visual dictionary I then decided for a complete rebuild instead - with a three man crew and all details included such as an accurate interior and opening hatches. The actual tank used in the movie was based on an Alvis Stormer flatbed, of which the only major modification was the addition of side panels covering the tracks. Photos of this AFV were also really useful as an addition to the reference material.
I've only got an LDD so far, but I plan to build it with real bricks in the near future. Enjoy!
inspired by this lovely collection of photos.
this is the ipod generation.
we limit the amount of screen time, just at the weekend.
10/31 - january grateful
MOC of one of the coolest designs from Treasure Planet, the disney CGI/2D animated movie from 2002. The reference for this piece was about 3 seconds of screentime this ship gets
A member of The Order Of The Four Red Dragons, an secret assasination order is preforming an attack on a group of Imperial Japanese soldiers during the Second Sino-Japanese War.
The Order Of The Four Red Dragons is an ancient secret society consist of mercenaries and masters of their martial arts forms who were known that they didn’t had affiliation with any nation, but only with the organisation itself. They are known to perform assassinations, espionage, infiltration, sabotage and guerrilla warfare. They fought for what was right as they fought for the people. From local gangs till entire governments. The order was also responsible for the rise and fall of many dynasties from China to Japan. Their most notable action was during the Second Sino-Japanese War and WWII, where they fought against the Imperial Japanese Army. Members of the Japan branch of the order were successful to infiltrate the army in order to gather intelligence and falsify information regarding troop movements so for example the Japanese Troops would be marching into a trap where they will be finished off by the other members of the Order.
This was a concept that was originally going to appear in my brickfilm about the Second Sino-Japanese War, but it was cut because of the time limit and that others scenes had a much higher priority to add than this one that carried little weight in the general story telling.
Alltrough some members did appeared in the brickfilm about the Second Sino-Japanese War and also Lego War: Battle Of Mo-Wol, they didn't got enough screentime to be easily spotted or recognized.
In overal I really like how this shot turned out and this concept might become a reality in the future.

Socrates, who lived about 2,500 years ago, is supposed to have complained about the youth of his day, though, like Yogi Berra, he did not really say most of the stuff he said...
Imagine what he would say to see these youngsters glued to their phones instead of just relaxing on the beach. They may be checking the weather app to verify what the weather is like at the beach, or sending text messages to one another...
At the end of her iGEN book, Dr. Jean Twenge writes that iGen’ers are scared, maybe even terrified. Growing up slowly, raised to value safety and frightened by the implications of income inequality, they have come to adolescence in a time when their primary social activity is staring at a small rectangular screen that can like them or reject them. The devices they hold in their hands have both extended their childhoods and isolated them from true human interaction. As a result, they are both the physically safest generation and most mentally fragile… If they can shake themselves free of the constant clutch of their phones and shrug off the heavy cloak of their fear, they can still fly. And the rest of us will be there, cheering them on.
