This is what they look like on the inside. You can see the outer core is clear and the inside is where most of the color goes to. (Note, it is better to make small balloons, the larger they are the more they crack once they freeze.)
The praxinoscope was an animation device, the successor to the zoetrope. It was invented in France in 1877 by Charles-Émile Reynaud. Like the zoetrope, it used a strip of pictures placed around the inner surface of a spinning cylinder. Here is an example: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ez_UJAafRMs
The animation studio Pixar created one of the finest examples of a zoetrope, which was on display at Disney parks. A large group of three-dimensional sculptures seem to come alive.

This was the first in Kristin Prather's series of Science and Math Workshops. They are for Intermediate School students to learn basic math and science concepts through FUN activities and demonstrations. They will get to make rockets, search the stars, and test mind-boggling physics theories. Let's not forget playing math games!

Depending of course on what was in that shot glass, this may well have been an exhilarating experience for the scholar seen here performing a physics experiment with a rolled-up newspaper funnel. While he stares at the ceiling, the funnel points in a contrary direction. Was there whiskey in the beaker? Or only ice water? And what does he plan to do next with his frozen assets?

To produce this magic picture, three pictures (A, B, C) are cut into strips and pasted down side-by-side on a large sheet of thin paper. The strips appear in the order a1, b1, c1, a2, b2, c2, a3, b3, c3, and so on. Then the large sheet is folded accordion-fashion, so that when it is viewed head-on, picture C can be seen, when viewed from the left, picture A can be seen and when viewed from the right, picture B can be seen. This 19th century magic picture is the precursor to today’s lenticular printing process which allows pictures to change when viewed from different angles.
The gyroscope has remained relatively unchanged and has been a classic educational toy for generations. It continues to fascinate young and old alike with its mysterious force that seems to defy gravity.

While we were discussing "light" in science class, we read the caption for a picture, "When light bounces off a mirror, the light changes directions. The letters on the sign are backward. This is because a mirror reverses an image from left to right."
Well, of course, my students said, "The words won't be backward if you write them backward." So, they had to experiment with it and proved it.
