PERSONAL FUN FACT written by my sister: It was Memorial Day 2019. Here is what I love about Memorial Day: On a normal Monday, the flea market is not open. However, for certain holidays that fall on a Monday, our flea market is open two days in one weekend. (I like to sing about how I'm shopping for dolls instead of working.) Ordinarily, we cannot go to the flea market and the Salvation Army on the same day, as the one day the flea market is open, the Salvation Army is closed. This is because the Salvation Army is a church affiliated charity and is closed on Sundays in reverence (which doesn't work for me because my religion involves secondhand shopping). But, as Memorial Day is a Monday and the flea market is open, that means the Salvation Army is open too. We don't typically drive by the Salvation Army on the way back from the flea market, but our route was diverted because of the Memorial Day parades (which I don't love as they pose an inconvenience to my flea market commute). That's how I realized it was open and, with little effort, convinced Shelly to make a pit stop. I thought we were going to leave empty handed. The toy section was barren. However, as Shelly was looking at clothes, I got bored and went to look at movies, coming from a direction that put me in view of the register. I spied a basket, with dolls!!! They were 80s Barbies and we had two of the five already (Dance Club and Style Magic). Knowing Shelly's love for 80s Barbies, I knew she'd probably want all five and I started yelling "Shelly! Shelly!" and motioning while holding Barbie and the Beat Midge. I was so madly captivated by Dance Club Barbie, because she was one of our earliest dolls, that I didn't even realize this was no ordinary Ken until Shelly pointed it out. (I was going to buy him anyway.) Though they were marked at two dollars a piece, the cashier rang up the two we were originally planning to buy for two dollars for the pair! This motivated me to talk Shelly into buying the other three dolls--Dance Club, Style Magic, and 1988 My First Barbie. Knowing her weakness for 80s dolls, I knew it would be easy to do. I said tha the My First Barbie reminded me of the older one Ray bought her for Christmas and pointed out what impeccable condition she was in. By then, we were at the jeep. Then, I suggested we go back in for her. She said, "But then I'd buy all three." I said, "And that's a bad thing? The other two are much nicer than the ones we have at home." She said if I wanted to, I could go back in and rescue the trio. When the five beauties, who I suspect were from the same home, were all bought, paid for, and securely in the jeep, I was finally able to reflect upon what a great find this guy was. Shelly and I both LOVE the Heart Family. Because of this, he alone was worth what we paid for all five dolls (it came to four dollars and some odd cents). I also remembered that we had his wife! The Teacher Mom was one of the earliest dolls we bought when we got back into dolls circa 2011. She's a dear old family friend, so it's really exciting to get a hold of her spouse! In the nude, he's basically just another Heart Dad, but I can't seem to get enough of those! Though it's been several years since I found the New Arrival Dad in the "Ken Suitcase lot" (and realized my childhood guy was actually a New Arrival Dad too...) and I've also got the Surprise Party! Dad in minty shape, these "special Dads" never lose their novelty for me. I'm so glad this guy is part of the family!

We spill out of the taxi at the Genocide Museum. It is uncomfortably hot.
“How long should we stay here?” we ask our driver. He shrugs. “Its up to you.” he says. He points to a shady spot up the road. “I will wait there for you.” He gestures with his head.
As I approach the ticket office, a man looms in front of me, his face, hideously disfigured... from I can’t imaging what. I turn away, completely confronted. I have never see such deformity. I don’t know what to think. The moment is quickly suppressed from my memory as I focus on what lay ahead.
Inside the gates, the “prison” surrounds three sides of an open courtyard. There is little shade and so we head for the nearest building. This used to be the Chao Ponhea Yat High School, but was converted to a prison during the “reign” of Pol Pot.
The first room I enter is strangely familiar. I have seen photos of it, so the scene comes as no surprise. Images from this prison were featured in the 1992 Ron Fricke film “Baraka”, and it is a place I’ve always wanted to visit. The cheery yellow and white tiled floor was a happy legacy of its schooltime days. The lonely metal bed complete with shackles now a reminder of the horror of its more recent history.
Perhaps because of the confines of the walls, I find this place more disturbing than the killing fields. Perhaps because I find torture so much more disturbing than death. Perhaps because it it is easier to visualise what took place here... or perhaps it is the neverending wall after wall of photos. Photos of real people who were brought here, imprisoned, interrogated and tortured before being carted off in trucks to Cheung Ek to be killed, en masse.
There is one room after another, each one with a bed frame, perhaps a desk, perhaps an instrument of torture. On one wall of each “classroom” is a different photo. Taken by Ho Van Tay, a Vietnamese combat photographer who was the first media person to document Tuol Sleng to the world. The photos are a grisly portrayal of the tortured bodies shackled to the beds.
On the balcony outside, a sparrow flits from wire to wire. Barbed wire that was erected to keep the prisoners in.
We make our way to the second school building. This one was converted into cells. Where the “prisoners” were held captive for months on end.
Beyong the cells, there are rooms and rooms lined with photos. Each prisoner was photographed on arrival. The Khmer Rouge required that the prison staff make a detailed dossier for each prisoner. The original negatives and photographs were separated from the dossiers in the 1979–1980 period and most of the photographs remain anonymous today. Nameless faces. Wall after wall. There is a face of a little girl. She must be about 4 years old. She looks sweet, and of course, innocent of any political crime. The faces stare back. One man appears deranged with terror, the whites of his eyes circling his dark eyes as they nearly pop out of his head. His mouth is a grimace. He must know what fate lies before him. So many people, so many women, so many children. I looked into the eyes of many of the victims to try and see what emotions they may have been experiencing when photographed. Most seem detached and resigned to an unknown fate. A few seem terrified. Not as many as I expected. It beggars belief.
There is a sign on the wall. It is a diagram of a smiling man with red line slashed through it indicating that it is prohibited to smile or make jokes here. I wonder at the need to erect such a sign.

I happened to walk by the middle school today at exactly 3:00 p.m., just in time to watch the kids start streaming out and I remembered that the We're Here! group is visiting all things School. I felt a little conspicuous taking a picture, so I just took one and walked on.

Quality Line, the bus-operating arm of Epsom Coaches, has been successful in winning Transport for London contracts in recent years. Their latest acquisition, from 3rd Spetember 2011, is the 467 which plies between Epsom and Hook. This is one of Transport for London's most marginal routes; it operates just hourly, has no evening or Sunday service, and the end-to-end journey time of 25 minutes means that at most times one bus is sufficient to provide the service. Nevertheless it provides a useful cross-border link and TfL stepped in when no-one else was prepared to provide it.
In contrast to the midibuses that Quality Line employs on most of its routes, two brand-new Enviro400s have been purchased for the 467. These fit in well, as Quality line already has ten such vehicles for routes 406 & 418 between Kingston and Epsom. At most times the loadings on the 467 would barely trouble an Optare Solo, but the route carries heavy schools traffic - it is extended at both ends at schooltimes - and the capacity of the double-deckers avoids the need to run duplicates. DD12, the second of the pair, approaches the Clock Tower stop in Epsom Town Centre ready to work the 14.49 departure to Hook on Friday 9th September - 'Hook Junction' is where the A243 Hook Road crosses the A3 Kingston Bypass and the 467 uses the roundabout there to turn.
A 3rd different offering on this route in 3 looks at it, variety!
Seen here on Silver Street in Stansted Mountfitchet, Regal Busways (ex Stagecoach Western) Dennis Dart/Alexander Dash P392LPS (515) continues to earn its keep, as it works on schooltime run Route 322 (Saffron Walden - Old Harlow). This vehicle holds the honor of being the oldest step-entrance single decker example in the Regal Busways fleet that still sees regular service, though whether or not this is a good honour I'll leave to the readers imagination. Also note the non-function dot-matrix screen, a piece of paper in the window suffices 02/03/15

Writing and pencil drawing now get so much fun! The miniature needle felted goldfish, will sit comfortably on the kid's pencil. Great keep sake for future memories of schooling childhood's moments. What is more, pencils will always stay away from the sweet chewy little kids' mouth from now on. There's a friend on!
The fiber sculpture pencil topper has an overall length of 4cm. In bright colours of orange and turquise, it will bring summer fun even in the midst of winter.

Friends forever. This shot was taken in 1984 after leaving school.
They had big plans.
Roachford the roach wanted to become a film star. After many unsuccessful attempts, at last he don't got the job at Disney/PIXAR's "A bug's life", because he had no computer skills. After that he opened a bar "Roachford's Inn".
Bunito has got too many children. He works like an insane to feed his overcrowded family. But for his friends, ha can afford time twice a month.
Duckling & Duckling were siamese twins. Smoking too much cigarettes, they tell the best jokes in the world.
Stoned Dog had never any big plans. Because he was and is always stoned from smoking mariuhana, he don't got any job for a long time. Now he's working as a social worker in the city.
They all meet together since them twice a month at "Roachford's Inn", having several beers, playing billard and cards, talking about politics and their schooltime.
Friends will be friends.
Fun with my floor mat.
Tada! A better one than yesterday - NK51UCY waits time in Brant Broughton before working the 1600 47 to Lincoln.
PC Coaches acquired NK51UCY from Thames Travel sometime in June 2012, and have now started using it on the schooltime 47 journeys - that's the 0725 from Newark in the morning, and the 1455 47 to Brant Broughton and 1600 return.
