On lease to Thomson Airways and operating out of Dublin (DUB), as it was the previous year. The surprise being that it's still in full Sunwing c/scheme.

First flown with the Boeing test registration N1786B, this aircraft was delivered to the CIT Leasing Corporation and leased to A-jet Aviation (Cyprus) as 5B-DCE in May-06. It wasn't with them long, A-jet ceased operations on 01-Nov-06. It was returned to the lessor and stored at Lasham, UK.

The aircraft was leased to XL Airways UK as G-OXLC on 01-Dec-06 (they had just changed the name from Excel Airways the day before). In Nov-07 it was wet-leased to Nok Air (Thailand) for the winter and returned to XL Airways UK in May-08. XL Airways UK ceased operations on 11-Sep-08, the aircraft was returned to the lessor and was ferried to Dinard, France for storage a few days later.

In mid Nov-08 the aircraft was leased to Sunwing Airlines, Canada as C-FYLC. In May-09 it was wet-leased to Viking Airlines (UK) in basic Sunwing livery with Viking titles and returned to Sunwing in Oct-09. It was wet-leased to Viking, UK again in May-10. The lease was transferred to Viking Hellas Airlines (Greece) in Jul-10. It was returned to Sunwing early, at the end of Aug-10, due to the collapse of one of Viking's major Tour Operators.

In May-11, this aircraft started it's association with the TUI Group when Sunwing wet-leased it to Thomson Airways for the summer season. It returned to Sunwing in Oct-11. The summer leases to Thomson Airways continued between May/Oct-12 and May/Oct-13.

The aircraft was fitted with 'Split Scimitar' winglets in May-14 before it was wet-leased to Travel Service Airlines/Smartwings in Jun-14, returning to Sunwing in Oct-14. The operation was repeated between May/Oct-16.

For the summer season in 2017 the aircraft was wet-leased to TUI Airlines Netherlands between Apr/Oct. It was returned to the lessor in May-18 and was leased to FlyBondi,com (Argentina) as LV-HFQ, returning to the lessor as N302PP in Jun-20 when it was stored at Tucson, AZ. USA.

It was re-registered OE-IWY in May-21 and ferried to Shannon, Ireland for repainting before being leased to SkyUp Airlines (Ukraine) as UR-SQP in Aug-21. The aircraft was caught at Kiev-Borispil when Russia invaded Ukraine in Feb-22 and is 'stored', condition unknown! Updated 23-Jul-22.

When we moved to a new location at the wye at Speer, we watched the excursion train pass through the wye in order to reverse direction and back into Cheyenne and got to watch it at slow speed. If you ever need location and time of the train, simply ask one of the several fellows with a hand walkie-talkie next to you; you'll get more info than you ever wanted. I noticed how spiffed it was all Simonized with the helpers and the new flag scheme. I don't know if you need a shot of the diesel helper all spiffed but the new flag scheme on the attached wrinkly metal.caught my eye. The art department worked overtime on that. Here is the shot I like with a slice of #844's tender on the wye. The #844 will be stored in the engine house and out of the sun. I got some of my other shots at the water tank here. They don't much need water - look at the yellow water tank car with the flag back of the tender. Eddie learned they would be heading for Cheyenne with the Frontier Days Special. Duh, same as every year for the Frontier Days Special. I had no idea they would sic the Brillo crew AND the Simonize crew on the train before the excursion. My exposure was darker than expected. The sky was devoid of anything so this marks yet another time I had to get through this on an #844 shot. I don't particularly need the practice as much as others I know! Lately, I prefer to modulate great clouds that I find; as if I hadn't already found some. Here, diesels shepherd the run but not for power (this engine can pull, thank you) but they are used to provide the safety power (dynamic braking - ceramic resisters over the engines burn off the current produced by the diesel traction motors) for the train thus guaranteeing arrival at the destination. And they help handle the yards.

The trailing cars carry dignitaries, crew, passengers and extra brakes on the excursion. This chunk of metal is really valuable at this time in history. I realize that I happen to live in a fortuitous spot and will wait until the next steam up. If it is cooler, steam will leak wherever possible and provide great shooting. Find further information here. Or track it down on Google.

Resplendent in her 'Raspberry Ripple' MoD(PE) colour scheme, the Royal Aircraft Establishment's 'unique' Shorts SC.9 XH132 on display at the 1983 IAT held at RAF Greenham Common.

As to her 'uniqueness', web sources state that:

English Electric Canberra XH132 was "awaiting collection" at Preston in 1959 and was eventually delivered directly into Ministry of Supply charge in 1960.

It was transferred to Short Brothers factory in Ireland and was rebuilt as a specialised "Shorts SC.9" with the capability of carrying several different types of nose-mounted equipment for missile homing head trails.

Then on to De Havilland Propellors at Hatfield where it spent many years as part of the "Red Top" guided missile trails programme.

Another move saw XH132 transferred to Hawker Siddeley Dynamics for a continuation of the trails before going on to the Radar Research Establishment at Pershore in 1972 for "Sky Flash" guided weapon homing-head development in 1972.

It was eventually transferred to Battle Damage Research Flight, RAF St Mawgan, in 1986 where it stayed.

The SC.9 was eventually broken up at RAF St Mawgan, however, the distinctive nose was saved by an enthusiast in Cornwall but was later bought by an Italian enthusiast and collector, Albino Panigarri.

After my dad left the army in 1947/1948 he managed to get himself returned to Africa, which he loved, as part of the famous Groundnuts Scheme in what was then Tanganyika. This scheme was intended to be a major contributor to the world's protein resderve by turning huge tracts of Tanganyika's plains over to the production of groundnuts. It was deemed useful as a source of employment to many recently demobilized troops and was also intended to put to use many of vehicles, diggers and so on that had been shipped to Africa during the war in the expectation that they would be needed in the Far East when the war against Japan was expected to last for a lot longer than it did.

The Groundnuts scheme was something of a magnificent failure as what had worked on a small scale, failed badly on a big scale due to pests, drought and other catastrophes. My folks had a brilliant time though and my sister was born there...

River Dargle Flood Defence Scheme.

Constant traffic nowadays with hard material being trucked in and dumped in storage areas along The Slang/Rehills section of the river bank.

Further work is now being undertaken to upgrade the protection of the riverbank edge with the laying down of extra stone material.

With the recent convoys of trucks bringing in vast quantities of stone, we now see that;

(a) some of the larger boulders are intended to be used as reinforcements along the base of certain bank edges (which have to be excavated again), and;

(b) some of the medium size stones look like they will be used to create secondary shelves along the riverside.

At the same time, the guys are working (or playing?) on changing the profile of the stepped terrace along the face of the Slang/Rehills section.

Seems like every time they do this, and we believe it is a 'finished' piece of work, they confound us later by ripping it up all over again.

I know there is value in maintaining this area as a smooth accessible strip. But the degree of attention they apply to this is then wasted by the randomness with which they undo all the previous work.

These images were taken in the third full week of November 2014. There's a big drop-off in activity on this site now. Continued removal of equipment, back to base or other construction sites. The last 'crawler crane' is being stripped down. Heavy-duty vehicular access to the far bank is restricted by the width and load-bearing capacity of the temporary bridge at Coburg, meaning that the crane has to propel itself out and across the river to a waiting low-loader. The boom arm of the 50-ton CCH3000 Crawler Crane is broken down into sections, and shipped out by truck. A Liebherr LTM 1050/1 All Terrain Mobile Crane was used for the job. The steep angle of the bank meant that the attending CAT 3300L had to nudge and lift the crawler crane at critical moments. These guys knew what they were doing, had done it many times before and never faltered for a moment. A great lunch-hour show for me to watch.

6.5 million women in Morocco work in rural food production, and 1.8 million in Tunisia; more than half of these women are informal workers without a contract, and therefore without access to social protection, healthcare or formal structures that would allow them to benefit from governmental support in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The agricultural sector has been particularly affected by the pandemic due to the limitation of the movement of people and goods, the closure of usual markets and points of sale, and changes in consumer practices, including apprehension towards products whose production cannot be traced. This has further exacerbated many women’s risk of job loss, poverty and disease.

The FLOWER project will increase women workers’ awareness of their socio-economic rights, of the health risks of the pandemic, and of the opportunities available in terms of law, funds and functioning of the market, in order to achieve better working conditions, production processes, quality and hygiene of food products, distribution channels and access to local and national markets. It will also train young local coaches on mechanisms of funds access and business management, and enable women’s groups to become familiar with economic, commercial and financial approaches to crisis management.
