"The Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1933 as a waterfowl sanctuary for birds migrating along the critical migration highway called the Atlantic Flyway. The refuge is located on Maryland's Eastern Shore, Maryland in Dorchester County, and consists of over 28,000 acres (110 km2) of freshwater impoundments, brackish tidal wetlands, open fields, and mixed evergreen and deciduous forests. Blackwater NWR is one of over 540 units in the National Wildlife Refuge System, which is managed by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service."

Accident Scene with Some Humor
For a combination of reasons, I rented a large van for four days, including the weekend. I had reserved a van, but when I picked it up I was offered a new one of the largest of the FORD Transits at no extra charge.
On Saturday, I had a meeting in London, Ontario. Afterwards I did some shopping before heading home. I was considering stopping at a plant nursery. As I approached the nursery on the two-lane road, I could see perhaps a dozen vehicles scattered along both sides of the road at the nursery location. Then various standing people came into view. The scene of what appeared to be an accident seemed like something to avoid driving through, so I pulled into the parking lot of the nursery. The oversized van requires two parking spaces, so I parked in the lot away from the actual nursery so as to not inconvenience other customers. Two women were standing in the lot as I got out, so I asked them what had happened. They were employees of the nursery and had been inside working when they heard the crash, so they hadn’t witnessed exactly what happened, but they said it appeared no one was seriously injured, but they were dismayed that no emergency responders had yet arrived. I don’t know how many vehicles were directly involved, but I hadn’t noticed one of them until it was pointed out to me. It was mostly hidden in a cornfield.
The parking lot has two entrances/exits. I suspect someone had pulled out of the parking lot without noticing some on-coming traffic and thereby caused the accident.
I went inside the nursery to look for plants from the end of season sale. Most of them were in the associated outdoor section, so that’s where I was when numerous emergency vehicles arrived from both directions. I took my plant selections via a cart to check out. Then as I was pushing the cart to the rented van I noticed there was a long line of cars behind the van that started somewhere on the highway. The police had temporarily closed a section of the highway and were directing traffic through the parking lot as a detour. For reasons not clear to me the first car’s driver had assumed the parked van was part of this snake of detoured vehicles and was patiently waiting behind it for it to move. All the other drivers had followed. As I reached the van with my cart of plants the driver of the first car realized his mistake and pulled away and the rest of the snake followed. The van was parked in the marked (painted lines) parking area and the intended route for the detour was the marked laneway at the edge of the parking lot. Granted the van was high enough that someone from behind likely could not see if there was a driver in it, but still! If I hadn’t arrived I assume the police would have soon noticed the line of detoured vehicles was not moving.
I loaded the van from the rear, returned the cart, and then waited for a safe chance to get in the driver side door as the inventory of detoured vehicles took a while to clear. Before driving off, I took this photo from the van’s window.

Much like the forgotten times and scenes of the NSWGR on the Great Northern Line, 3642 rolls across the Peel River into Tamworth on the North West Safari Tour. The loco would spend the next two days performing shuttles between Tamworth and Kootingal with the assistance of FL220
Taken at Legoland Windsor, England at the Starwars Invasion weekend March 24th 2012. Absolutely brilliant NEW series of animated / interactive displays with sounds and light effects - based around the films. Apologies for some photo quality I had to photograph them without a flash (so as to not ruin anyone's enjoyment of the scenes) and in low / coloured light of varying degrees!!! Plus I used a new Nikon Coolpix L120 that I have not gotten used to yet...
