Frosty scene in December 2005, Ferryhill, Co Durham

This seasonal scene was inspired by a photograph of deer and hinds at dusk. I used the silhouette of the stag and built up several simple elements: I think the main decision-making comes when trying to decide what to leave in and leave out: For instance, I decided to put in the tracks of the stag because it was in keeping with the internal logic of the image. On the other hand, I opted to leave out the 'mist' caused by the breath of the stag because it would have been too much detail. The branches in the foreground were traced from images sourced from the web, and whilst I initially took some photos of trees with the intention of tracing them for the background, I decided in the end that life is too short, and sourced some bitmap images from the web that could be made slightly transparent. Similarly, the form of the snowflake was again sourced from the web. Hopefully there is enough original input to justify calling this my own work! If I were feeling more ambitious I would have perhaps used a chiaroscuro effect upon the stag. One aspect I do like is the way the branches in the foreground 'echo' the shape and form of the stag's antlers.

Vector drawing I did from a sketch I did in my notebook.

Took mm... 10 hrs? I'm not sure. I'm slow.

There's a lot of detail so full view please or just click on the link below.

Also I included the outline version because as you know I love the way outline vectors look.

Brighton street scene given a David Hockney style treatment.

Been meaning to do one of these for ages, and as I'm sitting at home waiting for British Gas to come and mend my boiler(again) I thought I'd take the opportunity to create one.

Process is fairly simple, took me about 25 minutes in Photoshop, most of which is chopping the image up and then getting the squares in the right place.

This photo is from my old files and I thought it was just right for this time of year especially when I got up this morning and saw that everything was covered in frost and that I was off to work and couldn't get out for a walk !!

The house is Osbaldeston Hall and it sits on the banks of the River Ribble on the opposite side of the river to the Boathouse Lane at Ribchester where this shot was taken.

I like the smoke from one of the chimneys which seems to stand out more with the shot being in b & w.

The Point Bolivar lighthouse, which is a rusted black color, dominates the wide angle scene.

People crowd in before the Pandemic. Roxanne Coady of R.J. Julia Booksellers brought to life the stories of the British, Czech, German, Italian, and Russian merchants who built thriving businesses on Madison's Main Stree at the dawn of the last century.

Halloween shoot I wanted with my husband

My photo friend Zach and I thought up some concepts and he came up with these really cool scenarios that Corey and I got to act upon.

Enjoy

Typical village street scenes. Note the use of solar power to operate the street lights in some of the pictures.

Everyone drives a scooter in Saigon - the streets are filled with them. This shot is not as sharp as I had hoped, but I was shooting from a pedi-cab and I couldn't keep the camera still. But I still liked the chaios of the image (if only it had sound).

At least the Venetian equivalent of a street scene. The Grand Canal is the main street. Gondola (taxi) coming in to tie up (park). The vaporetto (bus) station across the canal. Rialto Bridge crowded with tourists.

Quite a contrast to my previous photo of the rock formations in Utah, but I love them both!

Much more to see!

Memoirs of the Life and Travels of John Ledyard, from his correspondence. London, Henry Colburn, 1828.

8vo, contemporary gray straight-grain morocco, gilt edges. In cloth case.

First English edition. With an interesting and appropriate fore-edge painting of a ship sailing along a rocky coast, intended, no doubt, to represent one of Captain Cook's vessels off the coast of the Hawaiian Islands. Ledyard was a member of the expedition, having been appointed corporal of marines in the British Navy through Captain Cook's influence.

I. Ledyard, John.

Little alleyway in Kyoto. This shot would have been more interesting if someone was walking by.

For the A3C3 monthly challenge, "crime scene". I'm offering 2 different photos. One is a real crime scene and this, which, of course, is totally bogus. The flash on the 4x5 graphic is fired with a wireless flash trigger attached to the Holga, which is more ridiculous than the photo itself.
