We take what's dead

And breathe life in

And move like knives

Through scars on land

Still untouched

No stain of hands

Caramelized

In a tilted light

No chain stays unbroken

All aims get forgotten

The weight of lead

On floors of sand

The idea reduced again

To outcome

No chain stays unbroken

All aims get forgotten

Silver glinted in the morning sunlight as Aurora turned this way and that, looking at the reminder of how her life had changed in the blink of an eye.

"Kintsukuroi. The Japanese rather than throw something broken away, fill the cracks with gold or silver, to show the beauty in the imperfections."

She'd been informed of what her scars reminded Noma of, and part of her saw it. But the part that she wouldn't show that was scared... that still had the weight of what could happen hanging over her, that part couldn't see it yet as a tear slid down her cheek. Would she have changed running next door to the kids aid had she known the outcome? No... no she wouldn't.

I've taken a week off work which is why I'm posting more than usual!

I went to a favourite spot today which is one of the highest points locally. It's a crazy place, full of old industrial ruins, mines, graffiti and oh, a bit of a view in the background!

The weather is constantly shifting up there and you have to auto bracket every shot to try and get a decent exposure (yeah, I could go RAW but hate the file sizes and faff). Today was so mild I was just wandering around in a T-Shirt and shirt, usually this time of year up there you need about 15 layers, gloves and a plastic bag over your camera, so was nice to be able to wander for longer. Expect more shots creeping into my photostream over the coming weeks.

Loving my new 24-105, can just sling my camera without all the gubbins and not keep switching primes, the only thing I'm finding is that it's a bit too sharp, I've had to change my standard settings to soften it down a bit.

I wonder, if these scars are still of meaning to anyone ones hurting the tree...

You can't see them until they move 😄 but there are dozens of rabbits by the stream and on the scree.

We walked Scar crags and Causey pike, but somehow or other, like a complete buffoon i deleted my shots from along the Scar crags ridge...Anyway, here we have a view of Scar crags from across the Newlands valley...[ its on the left ].

A beautiful day in Teesdale.

Kirkcarrion in the distance, a walled copse of trees and a tumulus reputedly containing the remains of Caron, a pre-Roman chieftain. The scar is 19th c lead workings, also extending underground.

Looking south from Scout Scar, Kendal, Cumbria. The view is down the Lyth Valley towards the River Kent estuary, Arnside and Morecambe Bay. A cold, clear winter's day, New Year 2026.

Scout Scar, also called Underbarrow Scar, is in the English Lake District, west of Kendal, Cumbria, above the village of Underbarrow. It reaches 235 metres. Included in Alfred Wainwright's "The Outlying Fells of Lakeland". It has magnificent 360° views, including many of Lakelands' principal peaks. There is a vertical drop on the right-hand side of over 100 metres.

It's a designated SSSI and features Carboniferous Limestone pavements, as well as Whitebeam, Ash, and Rowan trees.

An oil train with all Canadian power rolls over the Keddie Wye as they make their way to Stockton. On the top of the mountain the scars of the Dixie Fire can be clearly seen. When the fire broke out in July of 2021, the UP, BNSF, and several fire departments were working all day and night for months to keep the fire from spreading. The fire would burn all the way into the burn zone of a fire that had been contained only weeks before and unfortunately the fire would burn down the town of Greenville located not far north of the Keddie Wye on BNSF's Gateway Sub. Although the town is rebuilding today, it mostly sits in ruins and will take a very long time to rebuild.

A short notice message to fellow Flickr member, Mike Tonge resulted in an impromptu meet up at Plover Scar Lighthouse.

Arriving a little late, Mike gave up his time to pass on some welcome local knowledge which I found invaluable.

We had some nice clouds that picked up the sun as it dipped behind another bank of cloud which cut short the sunset but not before we were treated to some nice rays of light.

The dog enjoyed herself delighting in the salty barnacles on offer!

and this big and very mature bruin's scars, well, I'll bet it is quite a story as to how he obtained them. Something that would have been quite epic in a sense to have witnessed.

I have shown you this guy before. He is missing his right ear and the dips you see at his top line are areas where good sized chunks of his skin and probably some meat, were bitten out by another bear.

I wonder how the other bear looked because it must have been quite a fight. The scars were old because the skin was healed over but it sure shows you how brutal life can be in the wild, even for the big apex predators that these guys are.

I couldn't stop staring at his face. His expression just seems like it says a thousand words. There is something so gripping in his eyes and face. Now I know, we can't really tell what goes on inside their heads, but look at his face and tell me you don't see something, too, something deep, something that touches you, deep in your soul.

None of us gets through this life without scars and they tell a story. Each and every one of them. To me, this bear's scars are like badges of honor. He fought and he survived. Not something all of us can say.
