Big Leaf Maple (Macro Image)
Damage to this old tree is a result of the removal of a large branch. Nature has a way to slowly heal itself over time.
Plover Scar Lighthouse, also known as the Abbey Lighthouse, is an active 19th century lighthouse sited at the entrance of the Lune estuary, near Cockersand Abbey in Lancashire, England.
The lighthouse consists of an 8-metre-high (26 ft) white conical stone tower, with a black lantern and twin galleries, built on a rock ledge that is uncovered at low tide.
With a focal height of 6m above sea level, the light can be seen for six nautical miles. Its light characteristic is made up of a flash of white light every two seconds

A new location for me but one reasonably close to places I've shot many times before on the opposite side of the valley.
Myself and Mike Tonge decided to come up here for an afternoon to scout around see what was about, a good few hours were spent looking arund and we found some great little spots, including some giant stone cairns overlooking the imposing figure of Ingleborough.
We had seen this tree (or what looked like 2 trees) in the distance and we had that spot in mind for sunset, the onlt problem being that within an hour of us being up here the mountains had gone from being glorious lit up to completely grey and covered in a huge bank of low cloud, after waiting for quite some time for this to break we abandoned that spot and headed over towards this area, the going underfoot here is really hard going, and a few of the gaps into the limestone carried really sharp jagged deadly edges so being very careful was neccessary.
Despite it being gloomy and flat we got set up and just decided to see if anything would happen light wise as the sun dropped, as you can see it did, the tiny gap in the huge bank of low cloud above the horizon gave us a very short window of golden light bathing the scene as you see it, as soon as it had come it had gone again but that didn't matter to us as we had got something from virtually nothing, packed up happy and trudged back off on the long walk back to the car with a shot in the bag. A great day.

She is a beauty behind those scars. She is a gorgeous chaos underneath all that mess. She is everything that you can't see as her beauty lies deep within
When I was in Norfolk, England last summer I took a number of photos of the sunrises and sets over the course of the week. Most were uploaded to Flickr including a version of this one that I felt was pretty serene.
Having revisited the shot, I felt I neglected the post processing on this one in particular. Nothing other then a bit of lighting and contrast adjustment was required to really bring out the amazing reflection in the water. To make sure I didn't over expose the real clouds I applied a graduated filter on the contrast and saturation tweaks.
Most of my photos either contain motion, shadows, clouds, sky, water, reflections - and this one ticks most of those boxes!
I was hunched down watching the eagles feeding when this coyote came out of the dunes and down to the waterline to join the feast. It had a pretty distinctive scar from some kind of slash across its face. Coyote, Ocean Shores, Washington.
Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls;

Plover Scar Lighthouse, what a lovely name for a lighthouse. On the south edge of the Morecambe Bay near Glasson Dock, at the mouth of the river Lune sits a modest but beautiful Plover Scar Lighthouse. Built in 1847 it has seen better days but still makes an enjoyable short walk along the coast to visit it and is the subject of many photos.
Took a trip to Seahouses to scout out a section of beach we have not explored yet, some great scars and rock formations for future trips that's for sure

Waterfall at the head of Gordale Scar. A tricky climb if your not much good at climbing. I remember zipping up and down this waterfall many times as a young lad, but being a tad older these days, acrophobia gets the better of me and I have take a long detour to get to the top.
One of those nights when the sky just goes a crazy colour and you just keep clicking.
I was on a Photography meet up with Malli Davies at Plover Scar Lighthouse near my home town of Lancaster. Definitely an experience to behold sharing a few good laughs with a great bunch of people who just love getting out with their camera.
Very harsh light before the sunset it was a struggle to expose correctly but when the sun set the colours just kept getting more vivid with purples and pinks and then into the blue hour,
Tried a few longer exposures then shorter ones to catch the wave movement . This one was 59 seconds.
I actually prefer other shots from the night which you can see in my Plover Scar Album but people seem to have gone mad for this one

Following a 'touch and go', Royal Canadian Air Force No.425 Squadron's CF-188 Hornet 188782 blasts back into Waddington's circuit after a pm Cobra Warrior sortie and a run through the Mach Loop as part of a four-ship calling 'Scar Flight'
Note the reflection in the ventral Targeting pod and the painted 'spoof' cockpit designed to confuse opponents

Not a cloud to be seen but the morning light was so beautiful over the Scarness Jetty at Hervey Bay. This jetty is right next to a fabulous little cafe called Enzo's on the Beach and it literally is right next to the beach. I can vouch for their yummy Breakfasts and they also do great coffee.
