Sarnath est un des plus importants lieux sacrés des bouddhistes du monde . il est situé à quelques kilomètresde Varanasi. Le lieu sacré est situé dans le parc aux cerfs (deer park).

Sarnath cité bouddhiste se trouvant à une dizaine de kilomètres au nord de Varanasi dans l'état indien de l'Uttar Pradesh. C'est le lieu du premier sermon du Bouddha et est de ce fait l'un des quatre lieux saints du bouddhisme.
