le dita curate e un sarcasmo congenito,
labbra sottili, armonioso contorno
di denti bianchi e perfetti.
Poche parole, eleganza nei modi,
una lieve cadenza doltralpe e dominio di s.

Nixon had the foresight to die before the Corona Virus epidemic - he still might be blamed.
I was in graduate school at the time (1969). Two years later he "took revenge" against the school (the Provost had testified against one of his pet programs) by cancelling all draft deferments and federally sponsored financial aid to the students, just before the fall term.
I had the school write a letter to the draft board -- they sent it by registered mail and gave me the receipt. At the "appeal interview" they denied having received the letter - I pulled it from the file and waved it at them - they still denied seeing it. The interview ended with the statement "I would hate to see the day that we actually needed SOMEONE LIKE YOU in the army." I was still classified as 1A but knew they would never take me. {I stayed calm but seething with sarcasm, could hear yelling and furniture breaking from the other interview rooms.}
I had to pay the full (exorbitant) tuition that term - completed both degrees and dropped out.
The next year (1972) I voted for Nixon anyway. A few years ago I told this entire story to his brother Ed.

Chet is fluid in sarcasm and efficiently pessimistic. Also, anything off-white annoys him greatly.
ARTIST STATEMENT
In the moment of staring out a window, paradoxically, our awareness isn't in the slightest interest of what's currently taking place outside. More so, it seems as though we surrender to the untapped information of the mind. Imaginations tends to fill in the narrative through the images in Only one on my floor. Our child-like inquisitiveness becomes the catalyst in which possibilities form through windows which hijack our attention. This photographic series is off beat in nature, catered for the avid day-dreamer or gullible mind.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Chance Nkosi Gomez known initiated by H.H Swami Jyotirmayanda as Sri Govinda walks an integral yogic path in which photography is the primary creative field of expression. The medium was introduced during sophomore year of high school by educator Dr. Devin Marsh of Robert Morgan Educational Center. Coming into alignment with light, its nature and articulating the camera was the focus during that time. Thereafter while completing a Photographic Technology Degree, the realization of what made an image “striking” came to the foreground of the inner dialogue. These college years brought forth major absorption and reflection as an apprentice to photographer and educator Tony A. Chirinos of Miami Dade College. The process of working towards a singular idea of interest and thus building a series became the heading from here on while the camera aided in cultivating an adherence to the present moment. The viewfinder resembles a doorway to the unified field of consciousness in which line, shape, form, color, value, texture all dissolve. It is here that the yogi is reminded of sat-chit-ananda (the supreme reality as all-pervading; pure consciousness). As of May 2024 Govinda has completed his 300hr yoga teacher training program at Sattva Yoga Academy studying from Master Yogi Anand Mehrotra in Rishikesh, India, Himalayas. This has strengthened his personal Sadhana and allows one to carry and share ancient Vedic Technology leading others in ultimately directing their intellect to bloom into intuition. As awareness and self-realization grows so does the imagery that is all at once divine in the mastery of capturing and controlling light. Over the last seven years he has self-published six photographic books, Follow me i’ll be right behind you (2017), Sonata - Minimal Study (2018), Birds Singing Lies (2018), Rwanda (2019), Where does the body begin? (2019) & Swayam Jyotis (2023). Currently, Govinda is employed at the Leica Store Miami as a camera specialist and starting his journey as a practitioner of yoga ॐ
I recently received some correspondence from my mortgage company. In the same batch of mail was a similar envelope for someone in Virginia. My guess is that somehow the two envelopes got stuck together. I was a bit of a smart ass on the envelope.

Former President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan wanted his birthday celebrated as Teachers' Day in India -a day set aside for teachers, rather than about his own birthday. And since 1962, that's how it was. In some schools, one can recall senior students taking classes for a day, to give teachers a break; or some small ceremony to make teachers feel special. At any rate, the day would often be a half-day, to give teachers .
a break from hectic teaching schedules. .
Till 2014, when Narendra Modi, in the very opposite of Radhakrishnan's spirit, turned a day dedicated to teachers, into a day about himself. .
Schools were mandated to make arrangements for students all over the country to view Modi addressing an assembly of schoolchildren in the capital, and answering 'questions' that students had been coached to ask. Schools had to change timings in the last minute, to suit Modi's schedule. .
So teachers spent the day making hectic arrangements for Modi's speech rather than enjoying some well-earned rest, relaxation and respect. .
All over the country, thousands of ill-paid, overworked, contractualized 'para-teachers' work in humiliating and exploitative conditions without basicjob-security, salary and training. Modi said not a word on Teachers' Day about improving their conditions and regularizing them, in keeping with their long-standing demands. .
The HRD Ministry had said listening to the speech would not be mandatory. But what was the truth? .
.
Today's The Hindu has a photo ofa little boy in Bangalore being reprimanded for asking to go to the toilet during the speech! .
.
.
Several schools, including schools in Delhi, warned that students wou ld face test s on Modi's speech! DPS Mathura Road warned of 'strict action' if kids failed to attend the speech, and Bal Bharati in NOIDA said kids would be tested on Modi's speech. .
.

The Delhi Directorate of Education issued a directive .

So, Teachers' Day became an exercise in regimentation. Schools and students were roped by force into Modi's image-building exercise, and Modi imposed his views on them. .
The speech and 'interaction' was also a political exercise. Kids asked Modi 'questions' that were obviously tutored, to allow him to give a calculated political response. For example, a .
question from a student was Modi's pretext to hold forth on his own 'tireless' schedule, his willingness to work 12-13 hours a day. In a so-called 'live interaction', a girl student from Bastar asked .
t he PM about education in Bastar, Dantewada, giving Modi a chance to praise BJP CM Raman Singh and say, "I'm really glad you are asking a question on education that too from a land where there has been lot of blood due to Maoists.'' Modi did not speak of the blood of little school-going girls and boys, shed by CRPF in the same areas in firings on harvest festival gatherings of adivasis. In the 2012 Sarkeguda massacre, 15-year-old Kaka Rahul and Madkam Ramvilas, students at a government school in Basaguda who were home on vacation, were shot dead and branded as .
'Maoists.' 12-year-old Kaka Saraswati also was killed. Modi also didn't speak of the rapes of little adivasi schoolgirls in Government-run schools in the same region -that the Chhattisgarh Home Minister blamed on 'bad stars'! .
Modi hijacked the day that Dr. Radhakrishnan dedicated to teachers with a mandatory viewing of his speech. Meanwhile Dinanath Batra's textbooks that are mandatory reading in Gujarat schools, hijack Dr Radhakrishnan himself, turning his name into a vehicle for racist ideas. Those textbooks tell a 'tale' of how the country's second president Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan had told the British that white people were like undercooked rotis and Black people were like burnt rotis, while Indians w ere "rotis cooked right by God." Remember, Modi has written a personal preface to Batra's textbooks. And the same Batra textbooks also have ridiculous stories about 'Bal Narendra' -Modi as a child -and how he hid behind banana trees and waited for Hanuman! .
With Modi projecting himself as Teacher No.1 and Batra's absurd and reactionary textbooks being legitimized by Modi, the 'thought control' in India's schools is entering into a new and intensified phase. .

Sorry about the absence, i was up in chicago for a week for christmas. i had a great time and shot a ton and have dozens of shots to post. this one was taken at barnes and noble in the cafe in vernon hills, il. it was the first time i have ever been asked to stop shooting. one woman asked me when i was shooting this shot (after having grabbed about 20 before this one) to stop as it was against store policy to take pictures. i stopped but grumbled a bit. the manager of the store then came over about 5 minutes later because the employee apparently was rather upset about having to ask me to stop shooting. she then tried to lecture me and my two friends about it....three actual adults now. thankfully i had ali and reid with me and ali opened up a can of her sarcasm on the woman and reid lawyered up on her. all in all it was quite amusing as the manager just stewed at us and i walked away with a pretty picture. so i post it in honor of the trouble it brought me. also....red velvet cake is my favorite...when i get married i want it for my cake.
