Not So Secret Garden

Santa's Grotto at Touchwood, Solihull, on Christmas Eve.

At the Santa Grotto at Rufford Abbey Country Park, Nottinghamshire

As Santa and his motley crew celebrated another successful Christmas night of delivering presents across the world, the drinks were flowing, food was flying, and things started to get a little messy at the North Pole.

We took Lewis to see Santa today and the Grotto was all decorated with lights everywhere!

Thanks to everyone for viewing and helping me hit Explore!

In case you’re wondering where Father Christmas is - he’s on the screen in the shop window - zoom calling from the North Pole!

He’s fast asleep in his armchair and when the family and children get to the window they have to shout to wake him up. He then asks Father Christmas type of questions like what their name is and if they’ve been naughty or nice.

When the zoom call ends a masked Elf gives the child a present from Santa using a long gripper stick in line with the latest ‘Visiting Santa’ Covid regs.

They’re doing their best to bring Christmas to the children but some how or other it has completely lost the magic.

Taskers Office At Milestones Museum is a historical exhibit that recreates the working environment of a Victorian-era office. During the festive season, the museum transforms the office into a magical Santa's Grotto, where children can meet Santa Claus and receive a gift. The grotto is decorated with lights, garlands, and a Christmas tree, and features a cozy fireplace and a desk full of toys. The museum staff dress up as elves and help Santa welcome the visitors.

Taskers of Andover were an Andover, Hampshire based metal works and engineering company, which became better known in the latter half of the 20th century for their lorry trailers. After 170 years in operation, the company became first part of the John Brown company, and then sold to Montracon, where it was quietly closed.

Milestones Museum is a living history museum in Basingstoke, Hampshire, that showcases the life and culture of the county from the Victorian era to the 1930s. The museum features a network of recreated streets, shops, buildings and vehicles that visitors can explore and interact with. The museum also hosts seasonal events, such as a Christmas market and a visit from Father Christmas.

It was opened on 1 December 2000 by Duke of Edinburgh as a joint project between Hampshire County Council and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. In the year running 2007/8 the museum received 88,338 visitors. In 2014, ownership of the Milestones Museum was transferred to the Hampshire Cultural Trust as part of a larger transfer of museums from Hampshire County Council and Winchester City Council.

Season's Greetings and Best Wishes to you all dear friends!

Thank you very much for your generous comments and support on my stream for another year, that has steamed past faster than my shutter can blink! Your wonderful work has been most inspiring in it's creativity, and your presence so very encouraging when I feel uninspired with my own efforts.

As a departure from photography, the above image is a publishing magazine illustration I created several years ago - like photography, the process of creation was always challenging and immensely enjoyable. Here's to 2015! Cheers!

You still have time be nice to get a pretty gift.

The Chimp visiting Santa's Groto :)

I'm afraid time caught me well and truly today so I'm afraid I've jumped into my archives for today's bokeh shot! This is a golden oldie that actually hit high on Explore ... way back then (before Explore bounced me out!)

The original shot was in black-and-white but I've adjusted the colour tones to give a little black-and-white-and blue!!

Thanks, in advance, to everyone who views this photo, adds a note, leaves a comment and of course BIG thanks to anyone who chooses to favourite my photo .... thanks to you all.

To reach 'Santa's Grotto' children have to take a boat trip to his five-star accommodation on an island . Martin Mere WWT

The second of our Advent puzzle selection is this Waddingtons limited edition jigsaw from 1996, the third year they issued a special Christmas puzzle. Rather a nice one - not for the image on the front but for the reverse image, which is like Christmas patterned giftwrap, and the addition of a collectible Christmas tree decoration (tarnished!) and Certificate of Authenticity, both still present after 26 years. There's also a challenge to find the 25 candles in the picture.

A busy weekend ahead! We’re at our favourite venue, the Royal Albert Hall for most of the weekend, filming both ‘Sports Personality’ sequences for the Tennis and a promo for the Santa’s Grotto – so a varied day for our team! In other news, the team landed safely in Thailand! They’ll be making their way to the location right about now – so the adventure begins! Already excited to see what footage they bring back! Here’s a shot from earlier this year, one of our favourite drone shots from a similar shoot – and also – a clue to something exciting we’ve been working on recently!

This is the home of Santa this year in the Frenchgate Centre in Doncaster.

A visit to The Fort Shopping Park. It is near the Fort Parkway and is close to the M6 motorway. There is a footpath along the Fort Parkway from Bromford Lane, which is where the Outer Circle 11A / 11C bus routes run.

Not that the centre itself is very accessible via bus apart from one route from Erdington towards Castle Vale.

There is a large car park surrounded by the shops. There is zebra crossings for pedestrians but apart from that, not very pedestrian friendly.

Outside the National Portrait Gallery by Charing Cross Road. The statue commemorates the Actor Henry Irving. London. December 2018.

Christmas was plunged into a state of jeopardy when, on Sunday, Santa published this year's naughty list.

However Mr Fox, who had suspected that Santa might have gone senile for some time, had no intention of just sitting back an watching the demise of Christmas. He could never allow his polar bear or friends go present-less!

So the fox and the polar bear set to sea yesterday, bound for the Arctic. And today they paid Mr Claus bit of a visit!

Generally Mr Fox doesn't approve of violence. But when it comes to elves...

Suffice it to say, thanks to the rolling pin of Robin Polar Bear, before long the route to Santa's Grotto was strewn with the unconscious carcasses of splatted pointy shoed chaps of diminutive stature!

Eventually they arrived at Senile Santa's Grotto.

For reasons of criminal culpability it's best not to exactly document what happened next, but approximately one minute after Mrs PB's battle-cry a rather portly fellow was seen fleeing from the scene.

A couple of minutes later, Robin Polar Bear was stood outside prodding some of the previously dispatched elves, and Bat Fox was seen exiting the building.

As they began their way home, in the doorway stood waving, a smiley red man with a white beard and bushy tail...

Everything's going to be OK!
