fun fact: the day before, Alec went snowboarding. Within 24 hours he was snowboarding then at the beach.

I felt that my flickr stream was oddly devoid of my most important project - my son! This is Sam. He was born in november last year, so quickly approaching the one year mark! My life has pretty much been turned upside down since we got pregnant, learning a lot about being a parent and partner. Not always easy, but man - so fulfilling.
The pregnancy was pretty standard, I think. Jennifer had trouble with pelvic girdle pain, and the actual birth was exhausting for all three of us, but after a few months of recovery we're an actual family. It's weird and awesome to think about. Right now I'm enjoying the liberal parental leave we have here in Sweden, so I'm taking care of Sam full time for about 8-9 months. After a month I can say it's a fantastic experience to get so much time with your kid.
Naturally, LEGO and other hobby time has been limited. I haven't been in my studio that much. As a subsitute I began building Brick Insights, a LEGO review aggregator, to have some LEGO related hobby to do on the fly. Since it's a digital project it's a lot easier to whip out the computer and hack away for half an hour or so when he's asleep compared to clicking together physical bricks. Currently in beta, but making constant progress. Check it out if you haven't, and give me any feedback you might have.
Anyway, just wanted to share the biggest thing in my life. Sam's awesome to be with, and I'm extremely fortunate to be his dad. Love you, son.

En 1987 Sam Most y yo hicimos un quinteto que llamamos Flutet. Nos contrataron en el Donte's, el legendario boliche de jazz de Los Angeles. Los otros musicos eran Frank Collett en piano, Leroy Vinnegar en bajo y Roy McCurdy en drums.
Sam had been sleeping on my legs when Boo, who had been with us for about six months, came in and snuggled up tight with him. I thought Sam would get up but instead they both fell fast asleep. I wanted to snap a picture as a reminder of how our slow introduction of the shy little Boo had paid off, and thankfully had my EOS M beside me on the couch.
The M doesn't have an articulating screen so I held the camera out blind and hoped for the best. Thankfully I had the zoom lens attached as it has image stabilization, I needed to stop down to increase the depth of field and in the low room lighting even at ISO 3200 ended up with a shutter speed of a third of a second. It doesn't combat the blur from their breathing but it did help quite a bit with camera shake.
