This is the Santa Maria della Salute commonly referred to as Salute. In 1630, Venice experienced an unusually devastating outbreak of the plague. As a votive offering for the city's deliverance from the pestilence, the Republic of Venice vowed to build and dedicate a church to Our Lady of Health (or of Deliverance, Italian: Salute). The church was designed in the then fashionable baroque style by Baldassare Longhena, who studied under the architect Vincenzo Scamozzi. Construction began in 1631. Most of the objects of art housed in the church bear references to the Black Death.
The dome of the Salute was an important addition to the Venice skyline and soon became emblematic of the city, inspiring artists like Canaletto, J. M. W. Turner, John Singer Sargent, and the Venetian artist Francesco Guardi.
Salute to America was an event held on Independence Day, July 4, 2019, in Washington, D.C. arranged by the Trump administration. The event took place in the National Mall and included presentations of U.S. military vehicles, an address by president Donald Trump from the Lincoln Memorial, flypasts by military aircraft, and a fireworks display.

On this 11th day of the 11th month I salute our veterans who served us over the 239 years of our existence as a nation. I remember being in the Navy during the Viet Nam War and the blame our group took for the mistake our leaders made for getting us involved in that unworthy conflict. I am pleased that the American Public matured and no longer blame the military for doing the job our leaders have put forth for them to accomplish.

This is my salute to cancer. It was one year ago today that I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Looking back the whole experience seems surreal. Yet I'm left trying to still find that new "norm". What a difference a year can make....

The celebrations are preceded by the arrival of the Liberation flame , and the raising of the flags of the allied countries involved in the liberation of the Netherlands.
