This will be the last shot I post from the trip up Derwent Edge. I could post so many from here as the conditions and sky changed so much throughout the evening, but I will spare you all that!
So here is a square edit of the scene before the sun finally left the horizon completely.
A well-known and photographed gritstone tor on Derwent Edge. Though not clear in this photo, there were clouds of midges making photography unpleasant on this still morning.
American Flamingo's prefer high saline like the salt pans of Curacao. These flats were once used to "harvest" sea salt by flooding the pan, then letting it evaporate, leaving a layer of dry salt.
Amsterdam - Haarlemmerweg.
"Salt" is an apartment building, 2023, architect: MVRDV.
Four residential towers were built on the narrow strip between the Haarlemmerweg on the one hand and allotments and the Westerpark on the other. Salt was placed at the western end as the end of a set of four: De Voortuinen (the front gardens), Blend, Pepper and Salt. (Wikipedia).
Death Valley, California
Looking across the salt flats of Cottonball Basin towards the foot of the Panamint mountains. The foreground of yellow sediment is partially covered with salt deposits, although the “salt” here is not likely to be pure sodium chloride. Borax was once gathered in Cottonball Basin. A nearby outcropping of this sediment has the grand and rather aspirational name of Mustard Canyon.
Salters' Hall is the headquarters of the Worshipful Company of Salters, one of the original 12 livery companies of the City of London. It is housed in this brutalist concrete building from 1976, designed by Basil Spence.
Salt Point on the Sonoma Coast is not only beautiful it is very unique. Lots of hidden treasures all waiting to be found and explored. Definitely one of my favorite areas in Sonoma County to unwind and photograph.

Die Salt Lake Assembly Hall ist eine neugotische Versammlungshalle. Raue Granitwände sind in Kreuzform angelegt, deshalb schaut sie von außen aus wie eine kleine gotische Kathedrale.
The Assembly Hall is a Victorian Gothic congregation hall. Rough granite walls are laid out in cruciform style making the hall's exterior look like a small gothic cathedral.
The Stagnone Salt Pans, near Trapani on Sicily’s western coast, offer one of the island’s most enchanting landscapes. Shimmering pools reflect the sky in shades of pink and gold, while elegant flamingos wade gracefully among the salt flats. Towering piles of pure white salt and ancient windmills evoke centuries of tradition, when wind and sea shaped the rhythm of local life. This timeless scenery captures the harmony between nature and human craft — a living masterpiece where light, color, and silence blend into pure magic.
The best camera is the one you have with you, but that's not saying much in this case. I didn't splurge on the phone with the best camera, and it shows. Nice landscape, but best not viewed large!
The Praid mine is a large salt mine located in central Romania in Harghita County, close to Praid. Praid represents one of the largest salt reserves in Romania having estimated reserves of 50 billion tonnes of NaCl
Salt Creek Falls is notable for its main drop of 286 feet, ranking third highest among waterfalls in Oregon. The pool at the bottom of Salt Creek Falls waterfall is 66 feet deep.
A worker carries baskets of salt on her bamboo pole at sunrise. The Hon Khoi Salt Fields in Nha Trang is one of the largest salt fields in central Vietnam. Sea water is pumped into these fields and allowed to evaporate leaving salt crystals behind. The men then rake and collect the salt into pyramidal heaps, while the women carry the salt to be processed on their bamboo poles.

And we can enjoy a pinch to season soup
Or use a bit more to preserve so many foods
But too much is bad and studies show that nearly everyone takes too much salt
...I try to go lightly but I do really like cheese and Kimchi!

Death Valley, California
The Cottonball Basin salt flat before sunrise. A (mostly dry) water channel snakes its way towards the center of the basin. The white stuff is indeed salt and the growing conditions are still tolerable for the saltgrass plants.
