(After trying different lenses, the Sigma 17-50mm 2.8 (and the Sigma 18-35mm 1.8) work best for me in museums, which don't allow flashes, tripods, or with PEM, "professionals", i.e. a Canon 70-200 would lead them to think "professional", and not allow it in the museum to protect the copyrights of loaned objects).
Salem is one of the dollies that came back with me from Sugaroni's (I have four of hers and she has three of mine) I am slowly feeling like I am getting some sort of groove back and my head space more settled from being back home. I didn't except this to happen -so thanks everyone for being patient with me (you know who you are, I really appreciate it!) xoxo

The former Cistercian abbey at Salem is one of the most important cultural heritage sites in the Lake Constance region – and one of the most beautiful. Salem Monastery and Palace (Kloster und Schloss Salem) is a singular combination of Gothic solemnity and Baroque splendour.
Idyllically set amongst meadows, orchards and gardens, Salem comprises an ensemble of majestic buildings. The impressive size of the complex bears witness to the prosperity of the former Cistercian abbey, established in 1134. The imperial abbey – which enjoyed special privileges – played a leading role in the order’s southern German territory in the late Middle Ages. The monastery, located in the settlement of Salemanneswilare, was given the biblical name “Salem”, which means “place of peace”. Accordingly, in artwork, Salem Monastery was invariably depicted as an allegory of the heavenly Jerusalem.

Couldn't let cherry blossom season pass without posting something. This was from a couple weeks ago at the capitol mall in Salem, Oregon.
Saturday morning I joined the Salem Sketchers group to see a large private collection of art. After a tour we sat down to sketch. I did a transparency tracing to quickly capture the scene. This technique helps to get the shapes and relative positions down quickly without having to do a bunch of measuring.

Salem is the capital of the U.S. state of Oregon, and the county seat of Marion County. The first people of European descent arrived in the area as early as 1812; they were animal trappers and food gatherers for the fur trading companies in Astoria, Oregon. In 1851, Salem became the territorial capital after it was moved from Oregon City. The capital was moved briefly to Corvallis in 1855, but was moved back to Salem permanently that same year.
