I posted this photo two days before the start of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, which was also the day Nodar Kumaritashvili, an athlete from Georgia competing in the luge was killed in a training accident. I have mixed feelings about having this picture up now as I mean no disrespect to what is a sad, difficult situation.
United States Army Garrison Fort Hamilton's Morale, Welfare, and Recreation provided the first 100 attendees with a Chicken sandwich proudly sponsored by Chick Fil-A, at the Garrison's Safety Awareness Day event held on June 29th, 2023, in support of National Safety Month.
Service members, employees, and their families were strongly encouraged to attend this significant event. Participating agencies included the Fire Department of New York, New York City Police Department, New York State Troopers, Directorate of Emergency Services, New York Army National Guard, and Army Community Service.
Senior Army leaders had urged Soldiers, Department of the Army civilians, and their family members to educate one another on risk and influence behaviors concerning preventable injury and death, this month and throughout the year. (U.S. Army photo by Mark Getman- Fort Hamilton Public Affairs)

This set of characters reads "chuui" 注意 and means warning or careful. This one is curious because there was something above, to be careful about, but now I haven't the foggiest what it was supposed to mean.

This sign marks bouhantou no. 2, which implies there is a no. 1, as well. It was apparently installed by a local civic group.

great to see VW's being used even after its expiry date. although the car would not be road safe in european countries or any country that has licensing, its still working there and being used for transportation. people have to rush to get into it and its filled to the brim with passengers, leaving the 'guard' so to call him to hang on from the outside or side of the bus
This is actually the part that has me most worried. There is a little hole in my arm where presumably I fell on a pebble or something. It actually doesn't hurt that much, but I suspect that will change in time.
A rake of old ore cars sit in the yard at Ely. The water tower and coal tower in the background.

Funny thing: off camera to the top is a sign "Private Property", but it's not (and wasn't then) private property, it was public land.
When the Astrovan turned back towards Crew Quarters instead of Launch Pad 39A, we realized that Endeavor's April 29th launch had been scrubbed. Expecting a new target date to be announced this afternoon.
Managers to Meet Today about Endeavour's Progress
Fri, 06 May 2011 07:52:19 AM EST
Technicians at NASA Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Pad 39A in Florida continue testing various systems inside space shuttle Endeavour associated with a newly installed power distribution box, called a Load Control Assembly 2 (LCA-2). So far, all systems have checked out. Teams will retest the LCA-2 over the weekend.
Endeavour’s no earlier than launch date remains May 10, but senior NASA managers will meet today to evaluate the progress of repairs and select a new launch date for the STS-134 mission to the International Space Station.
Engineers have been doing forensic engineering testing on the failed LCA-2, which was removed from Endeavour on Tuesday. The LCA-2 feeds power to a variety of systems, including heaters on the fuel line for Endeavour’s auxiliary power unit-1 (APU-1). APUs control the shuttle’s hydraulic system. Teams are trying to determine what caused a circuit inside the power box to short out.
The APU-1 fuel line heaters did not work on April 29, prompting the launch team to scrub Endeavour’s first launch attempt.
