History of the site:
After 40 years in business the Neptune Diner located in Astoria, Queens, NYC served its last meal on Sunday, July 29. 2024. The owners claimed they were not given a chance to renew their lease, because the property will soon be turned into a residential building.
Since 1983, The Katsihtis brothers have owned the building on Astoria Boulevard but not the land, which was sold in 2018 for over $10 million.
The brothers also had a 35-year lease which expired in 2019. But since then, they were not able to come to a long-term agreement with the landlord.

But that's what Long Island City/Astoria needs is another apartment building. It's already so overbuilt, it's ridiculous. Yet they keep tearing them down and building new ones, many of which are luxury rentals. The neighborhood is losing its character to steel and glass.

I've always been annoyed by the loud sound the blender makes when it is running. Because of this, I now use ear protection when using it.
This is probably a good idea considering that most of these blenders emit sound around 90 dB (that's LOUD). I've been using a blender daily for over ten years so this is probably a good thing.
Highlights of the 2023 season
-Commuting by bike 85% of the year (full-time as of March 29th and haven't driven since)
-Completing the @baycarecliniccentury 30 mile ride with Amanda (unofficially 35 miles) with a goal of 60 miles in 2024
-Completing back to back century rides with the #STP (Seattle to Portland) and seeing amazing views along the way with over 5000 other riders from across the world.
-Doing over 5500 miles alone on my Midnight Special since April 7th, 2023. Numerous pit-stops for support along the way over at @blacksaddlebikeshop and @revcyclesmadison A full tune with likely a few new parts in store for 2024. This bike has been my workhorse since August of 2020 amassing 20,226 miles but whose counting (this guy is)
-Riding with all the cool people in my cycling circle of friends, both new and old.
-Never having an "end goal" for cycling but still wrapping the season with 6530 miles between three bikes.

This old Wills cigarette album dates to the mid 1930's.
The Foreword was written by LESLIE HORE-BELISHA, who was the Minister of Transport at the time. He is probably most remembered for the BELISHA BEACON, the yellow globe that illuminated pedestrian crossings.
The cigarette cards portray many aspects of road use, traffic signals, how to alight a tram and much more!

Eine kalte Batterie lässt sich nicht vollständig aufladen, ihr solltet euren Akku deswegen erst dann laden, wenn er Raumtemperatur erreicht hat.

Always Think Safety reads the sign while the van is completely blocking the footpath (and running over the dead chalk guy) in a residential area for the elderly.
Citing the alarming rise in construction related deaths (in the last two years, 30 construction workers have been killed while on the job), hundreds of hardhat construction workers, along with elected officials and community leaders, gathered near New York City Hall on January 18, 2017, to demand the City Council to pass the Construction Safety Act, a series of bills that will provide for true professional training to improve the safety of all construction workers and the general public. Dozens of hardhat construction workers engaged on peaceful civil disobedience leading to multiple arrests.
Diving is a serious sport and checking your gear and selecting your 'buddy' are safety measures not to be overlooked.
