Zodiac 2.0
Often symbolized with crabs, Cancers are known for their emotional depth and sensitivity, for their tendency to retreat into their shells when feeling vulnerable or threatened, to shield themselves from the outside world and keep their emotions safe. To represent my sun zodiac sign, I have chosen to wear this gown featuring a shielded bust, which on one hand perfectly embodies the nature of the Cancer sign, but also adds a touch of modernity to the dress, evoking a sense of advanced technology and innovation.
To add to my futuristic look, I'm also rocking a bold mohawk hairstyle, which has always been associated with rebels and nonconformists, and for me, it represents the idea that rebels are the ones who define the future. To further enhance the opulent and industrial feel of the outfit, I'm wearing chunky silver jewelry, turned some silver bracelets into armlets and incorporated mirrors as headpins.

L’œuvre visible actuellement n’est pas l’exemplaire original qui s’y trouvait en 2003 lors de Beaufort01. Celui-ci a déménagé cette même année à Ground Zero à New York.

Saturday Self Challenge
The topic for this challenge is Love: anything that symbolizes love to you. Your photos can be in color or B&W, process however you wish. I look forward to seeing everyone's interpretation of love! :-
I think my interpretation of this challenge is probably a bit obscure as I had absolutely no clue what to do. Then I had a thought, everyone loves a sunrise, the start of a new day, new beginnings, new things ahead. I was in the perfect place, on the coast near to the beach. I checked the Sun Follower app on my iPhone, checked out the weather forecast, then I spotted the unearthly hour that the sun was rising - 5:31 am !! I set the alarm for 5:00am, grabbed the camera and tripod and walked the short distance to the cliff top by the beach. I was surprised to find I wasn’t alone, soon after I turned up so did around 6 other people, they just sat on the beach, watched the sun come up and then went again, seems other people love a sunrise too.
I took around 20 shots but I like this one the best because of the seabird just up to the left of the rising sun.
Thank you for your visit and your comments, they are greatly appreciated.

------Alvin Adkins, Haida Artist
I bought these Haida carved silver earrings on a trip to Haida Gwaii last year. It was not Alvin Adkins who carved them but another Haida artist but I felt Adkins' writings were a good explanation of the symbology. Haida Gwaii (which means islands of the Haida people) is an archipelago off the coast of North-western British Columbia and is surely one of the most beautiful and magical places you can find anywhere in the world. These earrings are a very special reminder to me of a memorable trip. I marked the location where I bought them on the map if anyone wants to know where Haida Gwaii is located. HMM!

The Palace of Fine Arts in the Marina District of San Francisco, California, is a monumental structure originally constructed for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition in order to exhibit works of art presented there. One of only a few surviving structures from the Exposition, it is still situated on its original site. It was rebuilt in 1965, and renovation of the lagoon, walkways, and a seismic retrofit were completed in early 2009.
In addition to hosting art exhibitions, it remains a popular attraction for tourists and locals and is a favorite location for weddings and wedding party photographs for couples throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and such an icon that a miniature replica of it was built in Disney's California Adventure in Anaheim.[3]
Built around a small artificial lagoon, the Palace of Fine Arts is composed of a wide, 1,100 ft (340 m) pergola around a central rotunda situated by the water.[10] The lagoon was intended to echo those found in classical settings in Europe, where the expanse of water provides a mirror surface to reflect the grand buildings and an undisturbed vista to appreciate them from a distance.
Ornamentation includes Bruno Louis Zimm's three repeating panels around the entablature of the rotunda, representing "The Struggle for the Beautiful", symbolizing Greek culture.[11] while Ulric Ellerhusen supplied the weeping women atop the colonnade[12] and the sculptured frieze and allegorical figures representing Contemplation, Wonderment and Meditation.[13][14]
The underside of the Palace rotunda's dome features eight large insets, which originally contained murals by Robert Reid. Four depicted the conception and birth of Art, "its commitment to the Earth, its progress and acceptance by the human intellect," and the four "golds" of California (poppies, citrus fruits, metallic gold, and wheat).[15]

The Royal Gates are double doors opposite the Throne (in the altar), the main gates of the iconostasis in an Orthodox church. The royal doors lead to the altar of the temple and symbolize the gates of Paradise.
The Slavic name "Royal Doors" is explained by the fact that through them the King of Glory, the Lord Jesus Christ, in the Holy Gifts, comes out during communion of the laity.
The image of our Lord Jesus Christ not made by human hands* over the royal doors: “I am the Lord your God ... that you have no other gods before Me (Ex. 20, 2-3).” /first commandment/
*"not made by human hands" - a special type of image of Christ, representing His face, according to the general church Eastern tradition, printed on a linen scarf after He wiped his face after washing.
In Christianity, it is used to refer to icons, sacred images, which are considered to be of divine origin.

As a result of archaeological research we know that in the time of the Roman emperor Augustus, in the first century AD., Carmona went through a prolonged period of peace and economic prosperity. This led to the construction of large and important public buildings, among them the Gate of Cordoba, which was not only a defensive gate but also had a certain propaganda value, symbolizing the advance of the Roman empire.
In the Gate of Cordoba we can appreciate the traces left by the different cultures that have established themselves in our town throughout its long history.
During the time of the Catholic Monarchs, the Gate lost its original purely defensive function and, with it, its austere military appearance, as it took on the role of the supervision of products coming into Carmona from outside the town walls, in practice effectively acting as a customs post and, as a result, acquiring elements of civil architecture.
In the 16th century it underwent Renaissance alterations and, at the beginning of the 17th century, beautiful ornamental motifs, such as coats of arms and marble statues, now unfortunately lost, were added, all of which dignified the Gate.
Its Baroque appearance dates to the time of Charles II, with the reforms which took place in 1688.
At the end of the 18th century, the last reforms were carried out by the famous Neoclassical architect from Carmona, José Echamorro, and part of the monument was rebuilt and the complex consolidated
The Thinker statue symbolizes philosophy because of its profound pondering and contemplation attitude.

I was hoping for a better name than Pigeon Mountain when I looked up the mountain surrounding Exshaw, Alberta. The name doesn't exactly symbolize its magnificence. After coming from mere "hills" in comparison in Ontario I was in awe approaching them.

The current Reichstag dome is a glass dome, constructed on top of the rebuilt Reichstag building in Berlin. It was designed by architect Norman Foster and built to symbolize the reunification of Germany. The distinctive appearance of the dome has made it a prominent landmark in Berlin. [Wikipedia]
The 'Pillar of Love' statue symbolizing the battles and trials of mankind during and after the July 31, 1987 tornado that struck the city. ENG: The Lübeck Lions are animal statues depicting life-size lions, which on the one hand symbolize Lübeck's origin as a lion city, but also stand for its fortitude as such. Two of them have gained worldwide fame due to their placement in front of Lübeck's landmark Holstentor. The right lion which is here in the picture looks as if he is examining every visitor. The left one which is not in the photo is about 3 meters away and seems to be taking a nap. That's why I chose the one on the right. ☻
The merchant Johann Daniel Jacobj had the two resting lions made in iron casting by the Royal Prussian Iron Foundry in the middle of the 19th century and had them placed in front of his house. (...) After they were housed in Lübeck's St.-Annen-Museum after the end of the war, they have been resting on low stone pedestals out of town at the end of the small park in front of the Holsten Gate since 1949.

The Palendorp is a monument that symbolizes an old village that has completely disappeared into the sea since 1792. This beautiful work of art consists of 160 poles of six to twelve meters high. The poles are in the shape of 10 houses and a church.
The current village is already the fourth Petten. The third, situated around the current cemetery where the church stood, was demolished by order of the German occupiers in 1943 because the Atlantkwall had to be built there — an entire village disappeared…
Ravens symbolize a complex mix of wisdom, magic, mystery, and transformation, but can also be associated with death, prophecy, and ill-omen across different cultures. They are seen as messengers from the cosmos, tricksters, and creators, while in literature and mythology, they are often linked to the cycles of death and rebirth, or the darker side of the subconscious.
Red Tulips represent elegance and grace, but red tulips symbolize perfect love. The story goes that the black center of the flower represents a lover's heart, darkened by the heat of passion.

Kanji is one of the 3 oldest writing systems in Japan. It is however the most complex. Japanese Kanji symbols are actually taken from China, and like Chinese characters each symbol doesn’t actually represent a letter of the alphabet. Instead, each kanji symbol represents a word or a sound. In this respect they’re somewhat similar to hieroglyphics.
According to the language of flowers, a daisy symbolizes innocence and purity. A daisy means “day’s eye” (from Old English’s “daegeseage”) because the petals open during the day revealing its yellow centers and then close at night. Daisy, with its happy, fresh image, was a celebrated girls' name starting in the 19th century, when other flowers (violet, lily, rose, magnolia) were also doing double duty as given names.
