Another sunset shot from St Annes on Sea. I was surprised to see these unusual swirls in the sand here. I have not seen them before here and it probably has something to do with all the coastal re-engineering going on on the coastline here!
the structure you see in the centre middle ground is the old docking station that used to be at the end of the pier. Steamers would land here in the Victorian era and carry passengers around the coast to Blackpool, Southport and Liverpool.
Another pic form yesterday's trip to Padley Gorge in the Peak District. I know the "smooth water" isn't everyone's cup of tea...
Thank you for looking.
The famous Horseshoe Bend captured from a slightly different perspective makes for an entirely different photo.
The wild seas of Bass coast are a delight to watch but these crashing, swirling seas can be dangerous particularly when concentrating on getting that long exposure shot.
"Sweet it is, when on the high seas the winds are lashing the waters, to gaze from the land on another's struggles."
Lucretius
One from last year's trip to Switzerland - swirling reeds in a lake near the Matterhorn (which, annoyingly, was hiding in the clouds at the end)
Another photo of one of the three curvaceous staircases at Damian Hirst's Newport Street Gallery in South London.
Grand Canyon, Arizona
Lit by the rising sun, smoke from the 2025 Dragon Bravo fire swirls about Sumner Butte, near the foot of the Zoroaster Temple formation.

On our way to one of the most powerful waterfalls - Dettifoss in the world, I was attracted by this mountain appearance that I had to stop my car and captured it. But then this uneven surface in the middle of this river caught my eyes, because the water was flowing to this sinking hole, and I knew I needed a longer exposure to capture this swirling shape.

A small waterfall along the Oakland Run was photographed on a rainy fall morning. A HDR image was made of three separate exposures in Photomatix.
A visit to Trevose Head to witness Storm Amy's impact on the coastline.
We took the dog for a walk around Trevose Head on Saturday, the wind was ferocious and trying to take pictures was difficult as you were constantly buffeted by the wind.
My surprise was that the waves weren't as big as I had expected at Trevose, looking north or south along the coastline you could see huge plumes of water rising up as the waves hit the cliffs, there must be something in the make up of the seabed that impacts how the waves hit the rocks, or maybe the wind wasn't quite in the right direction to create the waves that I was hoping for.
Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable hour or so up there, this image of the Lighthouse at Trevose shows a swirling cauldron of sea water as the water coming into the cove hits the water trying to leave the after bouncing back off the cliffs.
East Fork Lewis River
Scrambled down a hill (got pretty dusty and muddy) to where I saw the really cool rock formations that were carved from the force of the river.
Looks like dirty concrete, but it is floating scum on the tidal pool surface. Another abstract image revealed in that same, roughly fifty square foot area among the coastal rocks.
