It was the outstanding handling - largely thanks to the hydropneumatic suspension - that made the DS a formidable rally weapon. Inspired by the prototype driven by Bob Neyret, who won the Rally of Morocco with it, Marcel lavalle built his own "short DS" in 1969, featuring a chassis shortened by 52 cm. Driven by Lavalle himself, with J.P. Chastin as co-driver, the car successfully took part in numerous events in 1969 and 1970. One of the very rare shortened DS models from the period.
