Brighton, Hove & District (CPM61) trolleybus, a 1936 AEC661T/Weymann is seen leaving LT's Wandsworth Garage. After withdrawal it was an exhibit at the erstwhile Museum of British Transport in Clapham in the early 1960s. The Museum was closed in 1973. It is most likely seen here on its way from Clapham to Reading. Later, it was on loan to the East Anglia Transport Museum at Carlton Colville and it is now dry stored at the Science Museum's Wroughton, Wiltshire site.
It is being towed by a 1949 Smith's of Reading Dennis Lancet (KJH 900) with a Duple C35F bodywork. This vehicle has sadly not survived.

Continuing on with my "juxtaposed" London theme, here is a shot I took today down in Wandsworth at the corner of the South Circular and Garrett Lane. On the one corner you have the Southside shopping centre, including a very tall vertical modern apartment block, then on this corner, you have the old Ram Brewery built around 1550 and closed in 2006.
This was not an easy assignment as there was a steady flow of double decker buses creeping round the ring road and loads of people around so I don't think a Saturday afternoon is the best time to tackle these kind of shots...!

Founded by Godfrey and Nash in 1910 as a cyclecar manufacturer. By 1919 they had become the largest such Automobile manufacturer, the car also being produced by Salmson in Paris, with around 1600 sold in France.
The companies new premises in East Hill, Wandsworth was capable of manufacturing up to 55 cars per week and had been purchased from the importer of the French Gregoire motor car.
The cars were comparably innexpensive to purchase and to run and their performance lively.
The companies peak years were 1921 and 1922 before mass market manufacturers entered the sector with their own more conventional models.
The companies reply was a conventional car of their own powered by four cylinder 1100cc engine from DFP, Anzani or Chapuis-Dornier. The car was not a success and ceased in 1925.
Nash left the company in 1922 and founded Frazer Nash, followed by the departue of Godfrey who latter went on to co-found HRG.

The Harriet Beecher Stowe House is operated as an historical and cultural site, focusing on Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of Uncle Tom's Cabin.
The house was home to Harriet Beecher Stowe prior to her marriage . . . The Beechers lived in Cincinnati for nearly 20 years, from 1832 to the early 1850's, before returning East. Shortly after leaving Cincinnati and basing her writing on her experiences in Cincinnati, in 1851-1852, Harriet Beecher Stowe authored the best-selling book of its time, Uncle Tom's Cabin, a fictionalized popular account of the pain slavery imposed on its victims and of the difficult struggles of slaves to escape and travel, on the Underground Railroad, to freedom in the northern states or Canada. Published just after the draconian fugitive slave laws were enacted by the US Congress in 1850, the book made Harriet Beecher Stowe's name a household word in the United States. Uncle Tom's Cabin has been published in over 75 languages and is still an important text used in schools all over the world. Written at a time when women did not vote, have legal rights, or even speak in public meetings, Uncle Tom's Cabin became an important part of the social fabric and thought . . .
www.nps.gov/nr/travel/underground/oh1.htm
In 1832, Harriet Beecher moved from Litchfield, Connecticut, to Cincinnati with her sister and father, a Congregationalist minister who accepted an offer to teach at the Lane Seminary. Harriet and her sister lived with their father in this house, which was provided by the Seminary, and soon after settling in established the Western Female Institute. . . . Marrying Calvin Ellis Stowe, a professor at Lane Seminary, in 1836, Harriet Beecher Stowe moved out of her father's house and into a nearby home in the Walnut Hills area.
. . . Stowe witnessed the evils of slavery first-hand while touring the neighboring state of Kentucky and visited the home of abolitionist John Rankin in Ripley, Ohio. During her residency in Ohio, she interviewed several former slaves who had escaped to freedom along the Underground Railroad. Many of the characters in Uncle Tom's Cabin mirrored real-life individuals such as Josiah Henson, a fugitive slave who escaped from Kentucky to Canada via the Underground Railroad with his wife and two children. . . . In 1850, Harriet Beecher Stowe moved from Ohio to Brunswick, Maine, after her husband accepted a teaching position at Bowdoin College. Writing Uncle Tom's Cabin after arriving in Maine, Stowe drew upon her Ohio experiences which inspired her to write the book that would expose the horrors of slavery on a national level.

In the summer of 1849, Samuel Charles Stowe, her 18-month old son died of cholera. Stowe later credited that crushing pain as an inspiration for Uncle Tom's Cabin because it helped her understand the pain enslaved mothers felt when their children were taken from them to be sold.

Recording projects in 2010-2012 with Grammy award-winning producer and founder of Windham Hill Records Will Ackerman include albums by Fiona Jay Hawkins, Shambhu, Dean Boland, Rebecca Harrold, Ronnda Cadle and Masako.
Will Ackerman: ...‘The criteria for who works here go way past simple talent. Imaginary Road is my home and I’m only letting wonderful people into my home. I don’t care how talented you are; if you’re not able to wear your heart on your sleeve don’t bother to turn up. We use Keith Carlock (Sting and Steeley Dan) as a drummer too along with Arron Sterling (John Mayer and Sheryl Crow). Only last year I met Premik Russel Tubbs who plays sax and wind synths for us.

Premik, in conjunction with jazz pianist Uli Geissendoerfer heads Bangalore Breakdown, an exciting, world music ensemble. They released their first CD, titled Diary, in 2008. In the words of noted Jazz author Bill Milkowski: Is it world music? Is it jazz? Is it some kind of new uncategorizable fusion that hasn’t yet been labeled?

From wiki;
In 1904, the Frame Foods baby food company opened its factory in Standen Road. The building is in a distinctive art nouveau style, with green ceramic tiles, and the slogan 'Nourish and Flourish' on the exterior. The building has now been converted into flats.
Architect: Lawrence Shattock, 1957, replacing an earlier church destroyed in a 1944 air raid. Here showing the exterior of one of the transcepts and a side-chapel. Architects: Rolfe Judd, 2015, showing part of the "stacked cuboids" 16-storey residential tower. The district used to be home to a gas mantle factory, hence the new development's name. London Borough of Wandsworth.

The Harriet Beecher Stowe House is operated as an historical and cultural site, focusing on Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of Uncle Tom's Cabin.
trilogy.brynmawr.edu/speccoll/quakersandslavery/commentar...
By December of the same year, 1863, much of Louisiana was occupied by the Union army. Ninety-five schools serving over 9,500 students--including almost half of the black children in Louisiana--were running under its auspices (Clinton 58). But keeping these schools up and running would require ongoing financial support. Toward this end, the National Freedman's Association, in collaboration with the American Missionary Association and interested officers of the Union Army, launched a new propaganda campaign. Five children and three adults, all former slaves from New Orleans, were sent to the North on a publicity tour. A drawing of them was printed in the 30 January 1864 issue of the popular Harper's Weekly, bearing the intriguing caption: "EMANCIPATED SLAVES, WHITE AND COLORED." The authors of this campaign were pursuing a surprising, and quite effective, strategy for arousing sympathy for blacks--they portrayed them as white.
Of the eight slaves sent north from New Orleans, four children--Charley, Augusta, Rebecca, and Rosina (Rosa)--looked white. As the article accompanying the group portrait in Harper's Weekly affirmed, they were "perfectly white;" "very fair;" "of unmixed white race". Their light complexions contrasted sharply with those of the three adults, Wilson, Mary, and Robert; and that of the fifth child, Isaac--"a black boy of eight years; but none the less intelligent than his whiter companions".
Accompanied on their tour by Col. George Hanks of the Corps d'Afrique (the 18th Infantry, a corps of colored soldiers), the group posed for photographs in New York and Philadelphia (Metropolitan Museum of Art). The portraits were produced in the format of cartes de visite (CDVs), albumen prints the size of a calling card, and sold for 25 cents each. The proceeds of the sale were directed to Maj. Gen. Nathaniel P. Banks in Louisiana, where the money would be "devoted to the education of colored people," as the verso of each photograph explains.
A bathroom can look lovely in the morning light - Taken at Harriet Beecher Stowe House
www.victoriaplumb.com/bathroom_DIY/history_of_toilets.html
Widespread contamination of large parts of the world’s freshwater supplies is one of the legacies of the modern flush toilet. So the evolution of the toilet continues, necessitated by the need to use less water and so place less of a demand on water resources. Perhaps the next revolution will occur in the development of waste-treatment systems that minimize our reliance on water. In the meantime, look for technology to become increasingly water-conscious, both in toilets and in other bathroom fixtures.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toilet#History
The word toilet itself may be considered an impolite word in the United States, while elsewhere the word is used without any embarrassment. The choice of the word used instead of toilet is highly variable, not just by regional dialect but also, at least in Britain, by class connotations. Some manufacturers show this uneasiness with the word and its class attributes: American Standard, the largest manufacturer, sells them as "toilets", yet the higher priced products of the Kohler Company, often installed in more expensive housing, are sold as commodes or closets, words which also carry other meanings.
