Photos at the Severn Valley Railway 2024 Diesel Gala, featuring some of the varied 'heritage' diesel locos on this mainly steam powered railway.

Western class diesel D1062 stands at Kidderminster whilst awaiting its next movement.

D1062 "Western Courier" was one of a class of 74 2700hp diesel-hydraulic locomotives built at Swindon and Crewe for the Western Region of British Railways.

The first of the class was introduced to service in 1962 and the last was withdrawn in 1977, with D1062 having a shorter life, from 1963 to 1974.

Although the class could never be described as a success, they did much useful work and attracted a big following by enthusiasts. Indeed, the unique external design still makes class members stand out wherever they go.

23.4.2022.

GWR Churchward designed '2900' (Saint) Class 4-6-0 No 2999 'Lady of Legend' stands at Highley, having just arrived with a train from Kidderminster.

This 'new build' locomotive was constructed using 4942 'Maindy Hall' as a donor engine. Built at Didcot by the Great Western Society, it was completed in 2019.

The number, 2999, would have been the next in sequence to the numbers allocated to the 'Saints' - the previous one being 2998 'Ernest Cunard' which was outcropped in 1913.

2999 does have a few original 'Saint' components - a connecting rod from 2906 'Lady of Lynn' and the whistle from 2910 'Lady of Shalott'.

With it's huge 6' 81/2" driving wheels (the same as a 'Castle' and bigger than a 'King') the loco looks every inch a GW design.

D1015 ‘Western Champion’ and D821 ‘Greyhound’ wait by the turntable at Kidderminster TMD on 6 October, 2024. The Warship had earlier been failed with a coolant leak and would miss its final working of the SVR’s 4-day ‘Autumn Diesel Bash’.

1940's themed event.

57003 arrives at Bewdley, 16th May 2025

The Severn Valley Railway in beautiful sunshine this afternoon. The banks of the river looking particularly dense and lush after all of the rain we've had.

The driver of 47712 plays to the crowds at Highley as it leads the matching Scotrail set back towards Kidderminster. 56051 was on the rear after leading into the station.

The set was running with 5 coaches instead of the normal 6 as the buffet had been taken out, making it even more of a wedge ex!
