1 Timothy 2:1–4

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.

History of El Santo Niño de Atocha (The Holy Child of Atocha)

The devotion to El Santo Nino de Atocha originated in Spain. Its origin may be related to Our Lady of Atocha, in Madrid, Spain, who is mentioned in the "Cantigas" of King Alphonse the Wise in the 13th century. During medieval times, the Moors held large areas and battles between the Christians and Moors were commonplace. The Moors invaded the town of Atocha. Following a certain battle, the victorious Moors held a great many Christians captive, and prevented the adult villagers from visiting as well as bringing the prisoners food or water. Fearing for the lives of the prisoners, their families stormed heaven with prayers for relief. One day, a child appeared, dressed as a pilgrim of that period, carrying a basket of food and a gourd of water. The Moors allowed the child to bring food and water each day. The prisoners were fed, but the basket and gourd remained full. The child was not known to the Christians nor to the Moors, so the people concluded that the child Jesus, disguised as a pilgrim, had come to their rescue.

In artwork, the Holy Child often wears a brimmed hat with a plume and a cloak or cape ornate with the St. James shell. (During the Crusades, scallop shells were the symbol of holy pilgrimages and one European variety is still referred to as "the pilgrim" or "St. James' shell." Poets have written about their beauty and artists have admired their symmetry and grace.) In his left hand, He carries a pilgrim's staff to the gourd of water is fastened, a pair of shackles, and a few spears of wheat. In his right hand, He holds a basket which generally contains bread or flowers. He either wears sandals or is barefoot. The Child is said to roam the hills and valleys, particularly at night, bringing aid and comfort to the needy, and thereby wearing out his shoes. He is usually shown seated.

The original statue of the Holy Child of Atocha was imported from Spain and now resides in the little town of Fresnillo, Mexico. El Santo Nino de Atocha is the patron saint of those unjustly imprisoned. He also protects travelers and rescues people in danger.

Prayer to the Miraculous Child of Atocha

All-knowing Child of Atocha, protector of all men, protection of invalids, divine doctor of any illness. Most Powerful Child, I greet you, I praise you on this day and I offer you these three Our Fathers, and Hail Marys, with a Glory be to the Father in memory of the journey that you made incarnate in the most pure womb of your most beloved Mother from the holy city of Jerusalem to Bethlehem.

For the petitions that I make today, I ask you to grant my request, for which I submit these deeds and in unison with the choir of Cherabim and Seraphim, adorned with the most perfect wisdom, because precious Child of Atocha, happy in sending my supplication, I know that I will not be disapointed by you and I will obtain a good death in order to accompany you in the glory of Bethlehem. Amen

On 28 July 2006 where the "Praying Angel Statue" changed again size, shape, & form! She restood upright from her "bowing to her Jesus" position!! She now weighs 28 pounds, her head now above the fence line, stands straight up-right but she kept the smile.. Her praying hands are closer to her chin now.. (Original set 29 July 2006 Sat Rose restands back up! 126)

Here's some precious pictures I took back from July 1997- November 1997 of the sky & sun. I call them "Heaven's Door/Gate". They would even come out when I would take pictures of trees and almost level to ground. Many of these pictures for some reason cried a 'Oily" like substance. We have also found them covered in "gold" sparkles. I don't know why, but most all my pictures were doing this after our first visit from Audreys. You can even see the stains on many of them. How beautiful!! What I find sweet is that it looks like the "Host" is surrounding many of the doors! I just think they are so pretty!

An inscription along the walls showing the usage of the word/ name 'Allah' in the Coptic tradition, used to refer to 'God'.

It reads: "Oh Allah, in your presence the non- stop supplication for endless blessed days is a must"

This church is one of many which shows that the earliest Christians used to refer to God by the proper name Allah - as the name Allah cannot be made plural and it cannot be assigned a gender.

Known in Arabic as al-Muallaqah ("The Suspended"), the Hanging Church is the most famous Coptic church in Old Cairo, Egypt. It is given this name because it was built on the ruins of two old towers that remained from an old Roman fortress called the Fortress of Babylon.

Hear my prayer, O Lord,

Give ear to my supplications!

In Your faithfulness answer me,

And in Your righteousness.

location : Kyoto Ditoku-ji , Kyoto city ,Kyoto prefecture , Japan

Daitoku-ji (大徳寺), the ‘temple of Great Virtue’) is a Buddhist temple, one of fourteen autonomous branches of the Rinzai school of Japanese Zen. It is located in Kita-ku, Kyoto, Japan. The "mountain name" (sangō) by which it is known is Ryūhōzan (龍宝山). The Daitoku-ji temple complex today covers more than 23 hectares (57 acres).

Daitoku-ji originated as a small monastery founded in 1315 or 1319 by the monk Shūhō Myōchō (宗峰妙超), also pronounced Sōhō Myōchō; 1282–1337), who is known by the title Daitō Kokushi ("National Teacher of the Great Lamp") given by Emperor Go-Daigo. In 1325, the monastery was converted into a supplication hall for the imperial court at the request of the retired Emperor Hanazono. The dedication ceremony for the imperial supplication hall, with its newly added dharma hall and abbot's living quarters, was held in 1326, and this is generally recognized as the true founding of the temple.

Like many other temples in Kyoto during that time, the temple's buildings were destroyed by fire. In 1474, which was when Kyoto was the scene of the Onin War, Emperor Go-Tsuchimikado designated Ikkyū Sōjun as the head priest. With the help of merchants of the city of Sakai, Ikkyū contributed significantly to the temple's rehabilitation.

From its earliest days, the temple experienced alternating periods of fortune and decline. This can be attributed to the rivalries and conflicts between Daitoku-ji and other well-known Zen temples, as well as between Daitoku-ji and the political authorities.

Daitoku-ji became particularly important from the sixteenth century, when it was predominantly supported by members of the military establishment, who sponsored the building of subsidiary temples as prayers for their ancestors or in preparation for their own demise.[5] In 1582, Toyotomi Hideyoshi buried his predecessor, Oda Nobunaga, at Daitoku-ji. He also contributed land and built the Sōken-in.

Around this period in history, Daitoku-ji became closely linked to the master of the Japanese tea ceremony, Sen no Rikyū, and consequently to the realm of the Japanese tea ceremony. After the era of Sen no Rikyū, another famous figure in the history of the Japanese tea ceremony who left his mark at this temple was Kobori Enshū. - wikipedia

For me there's something fascinating about watching people involved in performing a religious act. It's a more private moment where the contents of one's heart is briefly made manifest into action, as they reach out beyond themselves in supplication of the devine. Here, in the simplest way, a mortal displays that he is able to rise temporarily above the daily buisness of we 'common' creatures, all satisfied with slurpees and cigarettes, and exercises his faith in something which fortifies him with purpose and reason for his existence.

Remember, O most chaste Spouse of the Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who implored your help and sought your intercession was left unassisted. Full of confidence in your power, I fly unto you, and beg your protection. Despise not, O foster-father of the Redeemer, my humble supplication, but in your bounty, hear and answer me.

The Seven Treasures Wish-Fulfilling Pagodas

七寶如意塔

The Seven Treasures Wish-Fulfilling Pagodas is located by the Wisdom Pond, and there is a story behind the Seven Treasures Wish-Fulfilling Pagodas.

First of all, Wisdom Pond was discovered as a natural spring in a marshy area. After the spring was discovered, the lake kept getting bigger. Within two or three days of its discovery, the lake's water continued to gush forth, even washing away the soil by the lake. Therefore, Venerable Dayi Shi arranged for the construction of the Seven Treasures Wish-Fulfilling Pagodas by the Wisdom Pond to protect its shores. Since the Seven Treasures Wish-Fulfilling Pagodas were built by the lake, the water never overflowed again.

What is special about this Seven Treasures Wish-Fulfilling Pagodas? Buddhist stone pagodas are typically composed of various parts, including the base, body, spire, finial, pedestal, and ornamentation. The "base" consists of two parts: the underground foundation and the above-ground pedestal, both of which are connected, forming the solid foundation of the pagodas to anchor them securely.

The Seven Treasures Wish-Fulfilling Pagoda on Wutai Shan Buddhist Garden has a square-shaped body with a four-cornered Sumeru pedestal, greatly enhancing its stability and making it highly earthquake and typhoon resistant. The upper part of the pagoda is designed in a step-like pattern, typical of Tibetan-style pagodas. The Sumeru pedestal is adorned with lotus patterns, and the body of the pagoda is decorated with auspicious clouds and fierce lions. It has a flat and wide finial with niche doors, which contain carved Buddha images.

At the top of the pagoda's finial, there are 13 rings of "ornamental wheels" or "Dharma wheels." The "ornamental wheel" is positioned in the middle section of the pagoda's spire and is one of the most important components. In physical terms, the ornamental wheel consists of concentric rings linked together, serving as a symbol to gaze upon and venerate. It plays a role in showing reverence to the Buddha. The number of rings on an ornamental wheel on a pagoda is generally determined by the size and rank of the pagoda; it can range from three to five rings for smaller pagodas and up to thirteen rings for larger ones. Thirteen rings of ornamental wheels are referred to as the "thirteen heavens."

Regarding the Seven Treasures Wish-Fulfilling Pagodas themselves, they symbolize the names of the Seven Buddhas of the Seven Treasures: Namo Ratna-ketu Tathagata, Namo Ratna-sambhava Tathagata, Namo Ratna-kara Tathagata, Namo Arya-jña-na-garbha Tathagata, Namo Ratna-vikrama Tathagata, Namo Ratna-ruci Tathagata, Namo Amitabha Tathagata.

A Buddhist pagoda is a symbolic treasure in Buddhism, revered by believers. It also possesses a powerful, sacred quality capable of subduing all evil or alien forces and can be used for supplication and seeking help. Therefore, the spiritual benefits obtained by circumambulating a Buddhist pagoda while reciting scriptures and turning prayer beads are immeasurable.

So, when you pray, turn your prayer beads, recite scriptures, and walk clockwise around the pagodas’ bases. You will undoubtedly have a very auspicious experience! This is the story of the Seven Treasures Wish-Fulfilling Pagodas on Wutai Shan Buddhist Garden.

Now here I go,

hope I don't break down,

I won't take anything, I don't need anything,

don't want to exist, I can't persist,

please stop before I do it again,

just talk about nothing, let's talk about nothing,

let's talk about no one, please talk about no one, someone, anyone.

you and me have a disease,

you affect me, you infect me,

I'm afflicted, you're addicted,

you and me, you and me

I'm on the edge,

get against the wall,

I'm so distracted,

I love to strike you,

here's my confession,

you learned your lesson,

stop me before I do it again

you're clear - as a heavy lead curtain want to drill you - like an ocean,

we can work it out, I've been running out, now I'm running out

don't be mad about it baby,

you and me, you and me,

I want to tie you, crucify you,

kneel before you, revile your body,

you and me, we're made in heaven,

I want to take you, I want to break you,

supplicate you, are incurable,

I want to bathe you in holy water I want to kill you,

upon the alter, you and me, you and me..

Bishwa Ijtema in Bengali: বিশ্ব ইজতেমা, the World or Global Congregation or Meeting) is an annual Aalmi Ijtema held at Tongi, Bangladesh by the river Turag. It is the 3rd largest Muslim congregation in the world after the Arbaeen gathering in Kerbala, Iraq and Hajj. The event focuses on prayers and supplication and does not allow political discussion.

Zechariah 12:10:

I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn.

Instead of a temporary forgiveness, they will receive an eternal forgiveness!

Romans 11:26–27 promises:

And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: ‘The Deliverer will come from Zion, He will remove ungodliness from Jacob. This is My covenant with them, when I take away their sins.’Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare. — Isaiah 55:1–2

Union Pacific's AAMMI auto train rolls westward through the small town of Echo, Utah as viewed from Supplication Hill on April 19, 2009. This perspective required a steep, five minute nature hike where I managed to spook a sizable herd of deer. In the background at upper left are the Echo Cliffs, at right the snowy Coalville Mountains. At middle left, the small town of Echo (population 56) and at middle right is Echo Dam. Just below that (out of view) is the location where Interstate Highway 84 joins I-80.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

As followers of Jesus Christ ,prayer is our opportunity to talk to our heavenly Father about anything that burdens

our heart, whether our own troubles, or of a friend or loved one.

Doesn't God know about these things ?

Of course He does, but He wants us to tell Him in our words, and then give it all to Him.

Blessed be the Lord, because He hath heard the voice of my supplications.... Psalm 28:6 The Holy Bible

My longing comes to my lips as supplication of mine

O God! May like the candle be the life of mine!

May the world's darkness disappear through the life of mine!

May every place light up with the sparkling light of mine!

May my homeland through me attain elegance

As the garden through flowers attains elegance

May my life like that of the moth be, O Lord!

May I love the lamp of knowledge, O Lord!

May supportive of the poor my life's way be

May loving the old, the suffering my way be

O God! Protect me from the evil ways

Show me the path leading to the good ways

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: (Lyrics)

Let there be peace on earth And let it begin with me.

Let there be peace on earth The peace that was meant to be. With God as our Father Brothers all are we. Let me walk with my brother In perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me Let this be the moment now. With every step I take Let this be my solemn vow. To take each moment And live each moment In peace eternally. Let there be peace on earth And let it begin with me.

Philippians 4:6-7 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

HOPE YOUR DAY IS FILLED WITH THAT WONDERFUL PLACE CALLED "PEACE"

The stelae akh iqer en Ra ("the excellent spirit of Ra") (1292-1190 BC - New Kingdom - 19th dynasty)

Provenance: Deir el-Medina - Sandstone - Egyptian Museum of Turin

The stelae akh iqer en Ra ("the excellent spirit of Ra") depict one or more figures seated before an offering table, in the act of smelling a lotus flower. They have been found mostly in the houses of Deir el-Medina, in the first or second room in special niches, in front of which the domestic rites of ancestor worship were practiced. Because of the power he enjoyed in the afterlife, the deceased, having become an excellent spirit, could intervene on behalf of his family, thus responding to supplications addressed to him.

The spectacular rock formations of Red Rock Canyon in Nevada made an almost surreal backdrop for the giant cactus' that sprung from the desert floor.

Patience was rewarded as the sun was popping in and out of the sporadic clouds overhead. I waited and waited for the light to change and was just about to give up, when all of the sudden, the sun found a small chink in the cover and, amazingly, it directly illuminated the subject matter before me. I only had time to raise my camera and fire off a few frames.

"This is the dead land.

This is cactus land.

Here the stone images

Are raised, here they receive

The supplication of a dead man's hand

Under the twinkle of a fading star."

-T.S.Eliot-

The Betania Monastery of the Nativity of the Mother of God is a remarkable piece of architecture of the 'Golden Age' of the Kingdom of Georgia, at the turn of the 11th and 12th centuries, and is notable for its wall paintings which include a group portrait of the contemporary Georgian monarchs.

The history of the monastery is poorly recorded in Georgian historical tradition. It was a familial abbey of the House of Orbeli. A series of conflicts and foreign invasions that fill the history of Georgia left the monastery depopulated and half-ruined. It was restored, in the latter half of the 19th century. Betania remained the only operating Georgian monastery, though unofficially, until 1963 when it also became defunct for the next 15 years. In 1978, the energetic Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II succeeded in obtaining permission from the Soviet authorities to reopen a monastery at Betania. In the 1990s, the cloister was refurnished and the local monastic community grew in size and influence.

Architecture

The monastery’s territory seems to have been surrounded by a massive wall, but only dismembered stones scattered in the adjacent forest have survived of it. The extant edifices are a principal domed church of the Nativity of the Mother of God (constructed at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries), a smaller hall church of St. George (1196), and a ruined tower.

The church of the Nativity of the Mother of God is a cross-in-square design with a dome and built of stone, with some external carved decoration in the eastern façade where traditional niches have multifoil or scalloped tops connected to the frame of the middle window. Its high dome, slightly shifted to the east, rests upon the two westerly located freely standing pillars and ledges of the altar. The southern entrance portal is fronted by the gate roofed with a star-shaped vault. Modern scholars have surmised that the church is actually an expanded, domed and decorated version of an earlier basilica probably dating from the 10th century.

Murals

The interior is adorned with significantly damaged murals which mark one of the high points of medieval Georgian wall painting. The conch of the altar contains a scene of Supplication of which only the fragments of the figure of an enthroned Christ have survived. The walls of the apses behind the altar are decorated with the frescos of Prophets holding scrolls with Georgian inscriptions. The northern wall is occupied by a cycle of the Passion of the Christ while the southern wall contains the scenes from the Old Testament and the western – those of the Last Judgment.

The north transept of the monastery is notable for the depiction of the Georgian monarchs dating from c. 1207. These are the portraits of George III (r. 1156–1184), his daughter Queen Tamar (r. 1184–1213), and the son of the latter George IV (r. 1213–1223). The Russian prince Grigory Gagarin discovered and cleaned the image of Tamar in 1851, and published his drawings and reports the same year. George IV is shown as a beardless young man in Georgian court robes, but he wears a crown and sword. These attributes suggest that George is depicted as a young king after his co-coronation with his mother, which took place after the death of his father, David Soslan, in 1207. The painting, therefore, helps to determine the approximate date of the Betania church. An important irregularity observed by modern scholars is that none of the secular figures at Betania has a halo, an attribute that was normally used in Georgian imagery to distinguish a royal person from the rest of society.

The Boudhanath Stupa, a captivating historic monument in Kathmandu, Nepal dating back to the 14th century, is enveloped in a mystical ambiance. As you explore the surroundings, the sight of the whitewashed dome and fluttering prayer flags will captivate your senses. Here, individuals gracefully engage in circumambulation, encircling the stupa's base in a meditative practice. Through the rhythmic spinning of prayer wheels, the resonant chanting of mantras, and heartfelt supplication, seekers strive for wisdom, compassion, and spiritual growth. And as you wander, you'll be embraced by the gentle fragrance of burning incense that permeates the air, symbolizing the profound connection between devotees and the divine. This sacred act holds deep significance, as prayers and intentions ascend through the fragrant smoke, cleansing and providing solace for peace, enlightenment, and well-being – Boudhanath Stupa, Kathmandu, Nepal

`I am the Ghost of Christmas Past.'

`Long Past?' inquired miss Scrooge: observant of its dwarfish stature.

`No. Your past.'

Miss Scrooge inquired what business brought the spirit to her.

`Your welfare.' said the Ghost.

Miss Scrooge expressed herself much obliged, but could not help thinking that a night of unbroken rest would have been more conducive to that end. The Spirit must have heard her thinking, for it said immediately:

`Your reclamation, then. Take heed.'

It put out its hand as it spoke, and clasped her gently by the arm.

`Rise. and walk with me.'

It would have been in vain for miss Scrooge to plead that the weather and the hour were not adapted to pedestrian purposes; that bed was warm, and the thermometer a long way below freezing; that she was clad but lightly in her slippers, dressing-gown, and nightcap; and that she had a cold upon her at that time. The grasp, though gentle, was not to be resisted. She rose: but finding that the Spirit made towards the window, clasped her robe in supplication.

`I am mortal,' miss Scrooge remonstrated, `and liable to fall.'

`Bear but a touch of my hand there,' said the Spirit, laying it upon her heart,' and you shall be upheld in more than this.'

As the words were spoken, they passed through the wall, and stood upon an open country road, with fields on either hand. The city had entirely vanished. Not a vestige of it was to be seen. The darkness and the mist had vanished with it, for it was a clear, cold, winter day, with snow upon the ground.

`Good Heaven!' said miss Scrooge, `I was bred in this place. I was a girl here.'

The Spirit gazed upon her mildly. Its gentle touch, though it had been light and instantaneous, appeared still present to the old woman's sense of feeling. She was conscious of a thousand odours floating in the air, each one connected with a thousand thoughts, and hopes, and joys, and cares long, long, forgotten.

`Your lip is trembling,' said the Ghost. `And what is that upon your cheek.'

Miss Scrooge muttered, with an unusual catching in her voice, that it was a pimple; and begged the Ghost to lead her where she would.

`You recollect the way.' inquired the Spirit.

`Remember it.' cried miss Scrooge with fervour; `I could walk it blindfold.'

`Strange to have forgotten it for so many years.' observed the Ghost. `Let us go on.'

They walked along the road, miss Scrooge recognizing every gate, and post, and tree; until a little market-town appeared in the distance, with its bridge, its church, and winding river. Some shaggy ponies now were seen trotting towards them with boys and girls upon their backs, who called to other boys and girls in country gigs and carts, driven by farmers. All these boys and girls were in great spirits, and shouted to each other, until the broad fields were so full of merry music, that the crisp air laughed to hear it.

`These are but shadows of the things that have been,' said the Ghost. `They have no consciousness of us.'

The jocund travellers came on; and as they came, miss Scrooge knew and named them every one. Why was she rejoiced beyond all bounds to see them? Why did her cold eye glisten, and her heart leap up as they went past. Why was she filled with gladness when she heard them give each other Merry Christmas, as they parted at cross-roads and bye-ways, for their several homes. What was merry Christmas to miss Scrooge? What good had it ever done to her?

`The school is not quite deserted,' said the Ghost. `A solitary child, neglected by her friends and family, is left there still.'

Miss Scrooge said she knew it. And she sobbed.

They left the high-road, by a well-remembered lane, and soon approached a mansion of dull red brick, with a little weathercock-surmounted cupola, on the roof, and a bell hanging in it. It was a large house, but one of broken fortunes; for the spacious offices were little used, their walls were damp and mossy, their windows broken, and their gates decayed. Fowls clucked and strutted in the stables; and the coach-houses and sheds were over-run with grass. Nor was it more retentive of its ancient state, within; for entering the dreary hall, and glancing through the open doors of many rooms, they found them poorly furnished, cold, and vast. There was an earthy savour in the air, a chilly bareness in the place, which associated itself somehow with too much getting up by candle-light, and not too much to eat.

They went, the Ghost and miss Scrooge, across the hall, to a door at the back of the house. It opened before them, and disclosed a long, bare, melancholy room, made barer still by lines of plain deal forms and desks. There stood a lonely girl weeping next to a window. Miss Scrooge stood next to the spirit, and wept as well to see her poor forgotten self as she used to be.

Taking pity on her former self she said `Poor girl' and she cried again.

`I wish,' miss Scrooge muttered and looking about her, after drying her eyes with her sleeve: `but it's too late now.'

`What is the matter?' asked the Spirit.

`Nothing,' said miss Scrooge. `Nothing. There were some boys and girls singing a Christmas Carol at my door last night. I should like to have given them something but instead I chased them away'

Our special train is posing in the middle of nowhere North of Pyongyang, after many supplications to our guides to hold a photo-stop in the countryside of the Pyongyang to Kujang section. The engine is a kind of inspection railcar with lounge, kitchen and berths - apparently it was used by high-ranking or railway officials. Note the ex-BLS coaches in the consist! January 2004

The Black Dragon Pictograph is a partially faded panel whose correct interpretation took many years. In 1947, John Simonsen published a paper describing the monster that he imagined. To help others see what he saw, he

outlined it in chalk. In the 1970s a geologist opined that the monster looked like a pterodactyl. In the late 1990s young-earth creationists presented this panel as evidence that pterodactyls and Native Americans had lived at the same time.

An analysis first by a photographic enhancement technique (Stretch) followed by x-ray fluorescence to measure the iron in the red pigment revealed that the panel was five separate pictographs: a bighorn sheep, a dog, a bug-eyed anthropomorphic holding a snake, a man bent a the waist with arms thrust out in supplication, and a horned snake. All of the pictographs were in the Barrier Canyon Style of pictographs and petroglyphs, which are 1500 to 4000 years old.

Black Dragon Canyon has stunning scenery, many other pictographs, and petroglyphs.

In the epoch preceding our own, known to men as history and the past, there existed customs of a peculiar and macabre nature. Mortals were sacrificed for the appeasement of deities, often those deemed inconsequential - the ailing, the elderly, the youthful progeny. These individuals, viewed as incapable of contributing to the labors of the field or the care of livestock, were offered in hopes of divine favor, as sustenance was a treasure scarce and dear.

Among the entities revered were the forest gods, providers of timber essential for the kindling of hearths and the preparation of flesh. Mortals, in their dawning comprehension, came to recognize the worth of the arboreal gifts and the advantage of consuming meat not raw but cooked.

Yet, amongst these deities was one of singular and grim appetite - whom we shall name Aedhán. In the year twenty-seven after the completion of the Stonehenge Chronometer, Aedhán's craving for the flesh of young boys resurfaced.

The witch, a figure both dreaded and mystical, whom we shall call Brighid, brought unto Aedhán a youth, Dáire by name, who had grown beyond the tender years of childhood. This now matured youth, upon comprehending the absence of promised sweets, was overtaken by a despair most profound. He cast himself upon the earth, writhing and wailing in a manner most lamentable. Even the supplications of Brighid, declaring her imminent departure and forsaking of the youth, did nothing to still his bitter cries.

This spectacle of acute distress induced an unexpected transformation in the heart of Aedhán. The deity's hankering for human juvenility diminished, giving rise to an invention most unforeseen - the praeservative. Thereupon, he sought sanctuary within the cloister of the Catholic Church.

Dáire, despite his maturation, was endowed with the boon of perpetual existence, and it is whispered that he yet traverses amongst us. His presence, often heralded by entreaties for sweets, is a familiar spectacle in the emporiums of our contemporary epoch. Verily, but on the eve past, amidst the throngs of trade, did I behold his enduring semblance and hearken to his yearnings for long-coveted confections.

I dedicate this story to my friend Women In My Dreams (mostly off) Wim, who was so disappointed with the ending of the last story.

"Ojos Bellos"

Mirando tus ojos

siento gran consuelo,

la paz que emanan

me invita a ello.

En tus pupilas,

cual rayos de fuego,

veo reflejado

amor verdadero.

Me gusta perderme

en esos ojos bellos;

que siempre me miren,

verme siempre en ellos.

Poder contemplarlos,

sentir su destello,

amor me transmiten

esos ojos bellos.

Dulces en su mirar

recuerdan el cielo,

con ténues matices

de súplica y ruego.

Ojos que me miran,

lindos ojos bellos,

que siempre me miren,

verme siempre en ellos.

"Beautiful eyes"

Looking at your eyes

I feel great comfort,

emanating peace

invites me to it.

In your eyes,

rays of fire which,

I reflected

true love.

I like to miss

in those beautiful eyes;

I always look,

always see me in them.

To behold,

feel the flash,

I love transmit

those beautiful eyes.

Sweet in its look

remember the sky,

with faint shades

supplication and prayer.

Eyes that look at me,

cute beautiful eyes,

I always look,

always see me in them.
