A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Sundarbans (Bengali: সুন্দরবন, Shundorbôn) , a single block of tidal halophytic salt-tolerant mangrove forest of great size and bio-diversity, is a vast area covering 4264 square km in India alone. The Sundarbans provides a unique ecosystem and a rich wildlife habitat. The Indian Sundarbans forms the largest Tiger Reserve and National Park in India.
The Sundarbans are a part of the world's largest delta formed by the mighty rivers Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna. Situated on the lower end of the Gangetic Bengal, it is also the world’s largest estuarine forest. The Sundarbans is criss-crossed by hundreds of creeks and tributaries. It is one of the most attractive and alluring places remaining on earth, a truly undiscovered paradise.

The Sundarban is the largest mangrove forest in the world. The name Sundarban can be translated as "beautiful forest".
The forest lies in the vast delta on the Bay of Bengal. It became a UNESCO world heritage in 1997.
Wildllife thrive in this unique and delicately balanced ecosystem and it is home to large numbers of mammals, birds and fish. It is also one of the largest haunts of the endangered Royal Bengal tiger.

First day in our Sundarban tour we were just roaming with our boat. I don't know the exact name of the river but it was near Sudhyanyakhali camp.
I was so excited with idea that the sundarbans will be littered with wildlife but all i got to see are monkeys and crocodiles and tiger foot prints. Sad to say the best part of sundarban, for me, were the boat rides. With all the disappointments I was glad to see these little creatures crawl out of the forest as we were leaving. The boat rides relaxed me and gave me a few opportunities to see fresh water dolphins leap from the muddy waters. All in all Khulna wasn't a disappointment.

The mangroves are dotted with small fishing boats, sometimes with a crew like seen here but often just one or two hands on deck. These boats can stay out for days or even weeks at a time in search of a good catch, which speaks to the hardy nature of these fisherman. Clearly there's no room for luxuries, and even the implements like the sail and rudder are handcrafted from wood and easily available plastic sheets. #sundarbans
