Villages in Sundarbans

Images from Sundarbans ( name said be derived from sundri or sundari (Heritiera fomes), the name of the large mangrove trees in the delta ) -

Starting with memorable two hour boat ride from Godkhali to Sajnekhali Tourist Lodge, maintained and operated by West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation, we had a unique out of the world experience .... amid kilometers and kilometers of mangrove forests. The tides surging in and out, country fishing boats, interesting flora and fauna and the vast waterscape were mesmerizing. Though we weren't lucky enough to site the celebrated Bengal tiger, the nine hour boat ride through the Sundarbans was soothing and meditative. The stay at Sajnekhali, the only resort right in the heart of the Sundarban wild, totally cut away from human habitation was a once in life time experience. Hospitality was satisfying and Bengali food authentic ! Thank you Santhanu,Manager Sajnekhali, for the great arrangements.

Before touching the mainland at Godkhali, we got to see Gosaba one of the main deltaic islands. Sharing some images.

Our dodgy trip to the Sundarbans National Park... or to the egde of it. We didn't have the proper permit to go inside.
