The big log in the background is where I cross the river to an amazing waterfall which I always visit on my Aspendell adventures. The waterfall picture will be next in the uploads.
Madonna del Feles, on a cold rainy afternoon - in fact note the snow almost completely melted - the wet leaves, survived the cold winter, have taken on more vivid shades: the water, wetting them, has increased their color and has made them more shiny. A precious opportunity, not to be wasted... in fact, the large chestnut leaves, dry, are of an orangeish brown that isn't really a splendor.

Like a beautiful natural dream
The source of life, it does stream
Carrying time, carrying fate
Carrying love, carrying hate
A miracle sent down from the skies
Tears that poured from creations eyes
The source of life, that does stream
Flowing wildly, like a beautiful dream
I was in Virginia on business earlier this week. Autumn is in full swing up there. On the drive up there, I was on a tight schedule and couldn't stop to take pictures. If you've never driven through western Virginia, you are definitely missing out. The mountains, the beautiful rolling foothills, a lot of classic scenes of rural America, etc. In other words....a million photo ops.
Fortunately on the way home yesterday, I wasn't on a schedule, so I took a trip up into the mountains off I-81, through a town called Vesuvius. I eventually ended up visiting a place called Crabtree Falls (sheer luck). On the way, I passed by several spots on this mountain stream and stopped a couple of times to shoot it. The entire place was breathtaking.
Amazing colours of these fast running waters of Mawddach river just fifty yards before it will drop down in a series of spectacular waterfalls. Snowdonia National Park, Ganllwyd, North Wales
Streaming fast, streaming slow
Over rocks and earth they flow
Drops that rained from the sky
Tears fallen from creations eye
That fill the rivers and the seas
Quench the thirst of the trees
As over the rocks and earth they flow
Streaming fast , streaming slow
Leigh Brook winding through woodland in West Worcestershire. A wonderful old tree stump now stranded mid stream. Even during a damp summer the brook is at quite a low level but there is plenty of evidence of much higher water levels. I liked the interplay between the green reflections and the Beech branches hanging over the water.
I went after the westbound Job 1 on Tuesday with a couple of locations in mind, the trestle over Big Wilson Stream being one of them. Now I know, a horrible choice for a morning westbound, but I now have photo evidence of that. The lighting issue aside, I had a great time hiking in here despite getting my feet wet, and when I walked up to one of the abutments towering over the trees around me it really put it into perspective. At 780 ft long it is about 2/3 the length of Onawa Trestle, and nearly as tall. Luck was on my side as I had a late start, its about 3.5 hrs for me to get into Greenville plus the time it takes to make the trek into the woods. Knowing I was cutting it close I made good time heading up the embankment to a text message they had stopped at Mile 28 and would be on the move momentarily. That short stop is what kept me from watching the train pass overhead from the Stream below. At 09:45 Job 1 with a pair of blue barns leading crossed the trestle with a respectable train in tow. Hopefully CP can put some westbounds through here in the afternoon so I can do this one over from the other side, but it will take a good trimming.
