The Menai Strait is a narrow stretch of shallow tidal water about 25 km long, which separates the island of Anglesey from the mainland of Wales. The strait varies in width from 400 metres from Fort Belan to Abermenai Point to 1,100 metres from Traeth Gwyllt to Caernarfon Castle. The present day channel is a result of glacial erosion of the bedrock along a line of weakness associated with the Menai Strait Fault System.

鳴門海峡・道の駅うずしおから
Naruto Strait is famous for its whirlpools.
The current was so fast that it really flowed like a riverbed.
But I didn't see much of the essential whirlpools.

The area of Lincoln called 'The Strait', just at the top of the High St or the bottom of Steep Hill. A nice area of independent shops with views of the magnificent cathedral at the top of the hill.

In 1452, Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II built Rumeli Castle in preparation for the conquest of Constantinople and the Byzantines.
The castle is situated on the European-shore of the Bosphorus Strait at its narrowest point ~660 meters. From here, as recreated for you in the photograph, the Sultan was then able to control and limit any military and economic aid meant for the Byzantines via the Strait.
Crafty lad that Sultan, and a true story!
It's been awhile since I've posted in the evening hours, so I thought tonight I would share this minimalist reflection on the Strait of Juan de Fuca viewed from the Olympic Peninsula, Washington.
Note: this was a long exposure of around 12.5 minutes, you can see star trails in the sky if you look closely. It was taken when there was still a bit of ambient twilight to help light up the landscape. Finally, I double-processed the raw file, one at normal and one at +1 EV to bring out the foreground rocks (this was masked for the rocks only).
