Madchester '89 Exhibition details

Leeds Polytechnic, June 30th 1989

One of my favourites from this gig.. I like Cressa's look of irritation and/or incredulity regards me taking photographs and Browny's thousand yard stare... Guitar frame-left belongs to John Squire.

The Lost Negatives.

This roll of film will eventually reveal the full untold story... Everyone who knows of the band knows Ian Brown, John Squire, Mani, Reni and Cressa...

So who was/is the roadie? a secret Stone Rose?

Ticket kindly provided by Scott Holland.

So I went to vector arena last night to see one of my favorite bands playing after 23 years. I managed to sneak my camera past security only to be told I was at the wrong gate. I then had to sneak the camera in again only to be asked is that a camera? Thankfully I had detached my 50mm lens from the body and they hadn't seen the lens. Finally I got in and pushed my way to the front and captured two worthwhile shots. Was not easy as I was in the midst of the crowds being pushed from side to side whilst trying to set, compose and shoot these shots all whilst enjoying the music.

The inside of the Stone Roses Bar had all their 12" singles hanging on the wall.

The bar also had Stone Roses song lyrics painted on the walls, and there were tour posters, photos, and paintings of other bands, too.

At the Roses incredible gig at Leeds on June 30th 1989 I wandered backstage, there was no security around to stop me and behind the amps I found him hiding, obscured from the audience playing his guitar

Being a virtual vegetarian (I occasionally eat seafood), I did a bit of research into Edinburgh eateries before my journey to the land of haggis. All signs pointed to Henderson's, a groundbreaking restaurant founded in 1962 that has since expanded to become an Edinburgh institution encompassing a bakery, a bistro, a deli and an art gallery.

When Peter Henderson, one of the owners, spotted me snapping photos of the entrance after my delicious lunch, he gave me a tour of the entire place. That's him in the foreground just after he kindly lowered the garage doors outside the gallery entrance so I could get a full view of the murals painted earlier this year by artist Charlie Anderson.

As advertised by the poster above, the current show features work by artist and former Stone Roses guitarist John Squire. Aptly titled Nefertiti, this body of work is inspired by the music of Miles Davis.

Cool stuff!

An amalgamation to 2 selfies that I shot on the galaxy S7 during last nights stone roses gig at the Etihad. Its not the best shot but it needed documenting in this project.

Good times and not very often me a Lisa get to spend a night away together without the children.

Oh yeah its a cardboard cut out mask I am wearing!

The coat of arms from Newport Gwent in Wales that is mostly known as the frontsleeve of Stone Roses 1994 single "Love Spreads". That sleeved is based on a photograph of a stone cherub on Newport bridge on the Clarence place. In 1994 John Squire, guitarist of The Stone Roses designed the cover after he photograph the coat of arms while he walking from downtown to TJ's on the other side of the bridge.
