Rose of the north transept in Troyes Cathedral. Troyes Cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul de Troyes) is a Roman Catholic cathedral, and a national monument of France, located in the town of Troyes in Champagne. It is the seat of the Bishop of Troyes.

Troyes is the capital of the Aube department in north-central France. It is located on the Seine river about 150 km southeast of Paris. This area is known as the Champagne region of Northern France. Many half-timbered houses (mainly of the 16th century) survive in the old town. Troyes has been in existence since the Roman era, as Augustobona Tricassium, which stood at the hub of numerous highways, primarily the Via Agrippa.

Paul Aurelian Cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-Paul-Aurélien) is a former Roman Catholic cathedral in Saint-Pol-de-Léon, in Brittany (France). Since 1901, the cathedral also is "Basilique Mineure de l'Annonciation" (minor basilica).

Chimes sing sunday morn

Today's the day she's sworn

To steal what she never could own

And race from this hole she calls home

Now you're at the wheel

Tell me how, how does it feel?

So good to have equalised

To lift up the lids of your eyes

As the miles they disappear

See land begin to clear

Free from the filth and the scum

This american satelite's won

She'll carry on through it all

She's a waterfall

She'll carry on through it all

She's a waterfall

See the steeple pine

The hills as old as time

Soon to be put to the test

To be whipped by the winds of the west

Stands on shifting sands

The scales held in her hands

The wind it just whips her and wails

And fills up her brigantine sails

She'll carry on through it all

She's a waterfall

She'll carry on through it all

She's a waterfall

For Ian - not Ian Brown - my Scallywag Brother in San Fran'.....

(update, it's 2021 and vinyl prices have gone through the roof)

Close up detail. The combination of stunning stone work and beautifully artistic stained glass makes a Gothic Stone Rose one of the most visually beautiful man made creations. I love the beautiful curves and colourful glass work.

To assemble the window, pieces of colored and painted glass were first laid out on the design board, with the edges of each piece fitted into H-shaped strips of lead. Then, these cames were soldered to one another. When a panel was completed, putty was inserted between the glass and the lead cames for waterproofing. The entire composition was then stabilized with an iron armature and mounted in the window

The beautiful stone rose of Metz Cathedral by Hermann von Muenster.

Hermman von Münster is actually the first stained glass artist to be mentioned by the archives of the Cathedral chapter of Saint-Etienne of Metz. On August 29, 1381, master Hermann received an annuity of 22 pounds, to pay for its work on the western large window of the cathedral of Metz. His work was supported by Cardinal William Aigrefeuille, legate of the antipope Clement VII, who then reorganized the Chapter of Metz. Three years later, on 2 May 1384, the Cathedral chapter negotiated the price of the "GRANT OZ", the western Rose window with Hermann von Munster. Hermann was still working on the windows of the western facade in December 1384. In August 1385, the Cathedral Chapter borrowed 420 pounds to set the work completed.

Nidaros Cathedral is located in the heart of Trondheim. Norway's national shrine – an ornate Gothic masterpiece, it is simply stunning. We you visit such a masterpiece you can only be amazed by its beauty, imagine the effect it had on pilgems in 1300.

The cathedral is built over the tomb of St. Olav, the Viking king who converted Norway to Christianity and became “Norway's Eternal King”. Throughout the Middle Ages this was a towering symbol of religious faith and the powerful position of the Church. The work on Nidaros Cathedral began in 1070 and was completed in all its glory around 1300. In the early 1800s, after several fires and lack of maintenance, the cathedral was in very poor shape. In 1868 it was determined that the cathedral should be rebuilt as a national symbol and work began the following year. The restoration of Nidaros Cathedral has been going on for 150 years and the work continues on various projects at this national shrine.

Extremely rare intact ticket from the Empress Ballroom gig..From the collection of Scott Holland.. Most of these tickets were torn in half by security on entering the venue.

Diary Entry: Saturday 12th August 1989: "...Spent the day at home mainly waiting for the Stone Roses as my finale to England before hitting Europe inter-railing.. Bryn arrived with Caroline and we picked up Helen in Prestwich. Off to Blackpool listening to "This is the One" in his orange Beetle. Swigging chianti until we arrived at the Manchester Pub, where we found Paul, Boz, Bill, Ste and JIm. Pint of lager then down to the wintergardens. Met Dave had a quick chat and he palmed me some tickets to sell. My intention was to walk back to the Manchester and sell them there but by the time I got back for another pint I'd sold all the tickets I had along the way and unfortunately discovered some mates still needed some, felt a bit gutted. . Ste saw Bez from the Mondays and asked him if he had any spares and that he was prepared to give him some sheets. Bez asked nonplussed "What are sheets?" Tickets were increasingly becoming hard to find so I decided to go in. The place was huge and boiling hot-pretty full as well. The decorative ceiling was emblazoned with one of John Squire's works; 'Waterfall' via a slide projector. Ian Brown had his 'money' t-shirt on - taking the piss! He announced."we've gone international continental." I thought: Yeah, that's me tomorrow off to Europe.

The set seemed to last ages -all the classics and "Mersey Paradise" which didn't get a very positive response due to the fact that the audience was virtually all Mancunian or pretending to be. I think the vocals suffered due to the enormity of the place- flaws in I.Brown's vocals didn't stop everyone dancing away at it. Visions of everyone including Caroline, Helen and her overdone girlfriends letting their hair down, flowing, swaying worship to the music. All round an excellent evening though I'd rather see them at smaller venues. I didn't notice any support act. Don't think there was one - or an encore - no need as the set was so long - My tshirt was drenched, soaked to the skin again. Sara Entwistle kept asking me if I was goig to some party. She kept telling me the address but I couldn't recall it for even thirty seconds.. She wished me well on our trip to Europe and we all got together standing outside. I found out that Bill hadn't managed to get a ticket and had gone back to his hotel instead whereas Boz had ended up paying 15 sterling for his ticket. Late on Bryn drove us back and we stopped at some service station were we bumped into Sara with her mob again. Finally homewards. I crashed out-knackered. Jay was already in asleep. All told a fine last night in England and now looking forward to the coming weeks and months in European sunshine.

I think for this shot I may have been being carried on Jamie's shoulders.

We didn't have tickets and the touts were asking for far too much, £25 a ticket.. In the end I bribed the doorstaff and they let three of us in for a fiver each. Where there's a will there's a way.. I heard a rumour the same security wouldn't initially let Ian Brown in refusing to believe he was the leadsinger of the band.

Edited, abridged and censored Diary Entry: June 30th 1989.

"I got some Kodak Ektar 35mm film for my brother's camera which he has agreed I can take to the Roses gig at Leeds tonight. Jamie and I are mad keen to go and I'm definitely taking photographs after how good they were at Leicester three weeks back. We waited around all day bored. We met Jamie's dad and I told him he looked like Rolf Harris we were laughing our heads off.. He's all grey hair and beardo. He asked us what we were laughing at but we didn't let on.

We got in Jamie's Magic maroon Morris Minor and set off for Leeds in the good Summer rain with the Stone Roses blaring out maginificently. We arrived at 8ish and met Paul Teece at the Hyde Park Hotel. We walked down to the Poly- Arghhh SOLD OUT. No tickets available. There was an entourage of pissed off fans outside - the few tickets left on offer were in the slimy hands of touts and despite my best efforts they were wanting £25 a ticket but were prepared to offer me a discount of a fiver.. Yeah right- NO chance.. The band are good but not that good. Some Southern student type told me that the musicpress are going mad for the Roses and that they are going to go big.. I told him; "it's about time." he said he had never heard them before but had heard good things and promptly paid a tout £25 for a ticket. I was gobsmacked. Some people are just made of money. Disappointed, we decided to go to a boozer instead.....

After a few pints we headed back on a mission...Then at 10.30 we tried to sneak in but we couldn't find a way. Everything was blocked off and sealed up.. I finally managed to bribe a steward- 15 Bar for all three of us. excellent we got in for a fiver each and he pocketed our notes before getting us in sharpish....I took a load of photos and it was a brilliant concert. incredible sound. No loss missing the support act which I hear were the Bridewell Taxis. I went round the back of the amps to see if I could get some good shots of Cressa and Reni but I couldn't get a sound vantage point, instead I got a photo of this lad with long blonde hair who was hiding and helping the band out playing guitar... no wonder their tunes are so good live.. They're even better than they were at Leicester. I had massive jip with Jay's camera. At the end of the roll I rewound it but it was stuck and I couldn't get the film out. The crappy Halina wouldn't open. After this superb gig we were well happy and soaking wet with sweat. We went to the Warehouse in Leeds- a good place- a bit freaky though. I found a wet through five pound note then a quid coin, bonus. After the Club we walked round Leeds for what seemed like hours and then set off still wide awake and bushy tailed at 4AM."

I did post this once before about a year ago in fact, but seeing what day it is I thought it might be nice to show it again for anyone who may have missed it.
