University of Iowa Health Care STEM Education partnered with the Belin-Blank Center for Gifted and Talented Education to provide an educational experience for middle and high school students across the state to explore the sciences. Students who visited UI Health Care had the opportunity to explore anatomy through listening to a professor at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine give a brief anatomy lecture on the heart and brain. Students then had the opportunity to take what they learned in class and apply it by examining both plastinated and real human hearts and brains.

  

University of Iowa Health Care is committed partners with formal and informal educators and community organizations across the state to advance STEM literacy to inspire the next generation of health care professionals and build a foundation for children to understanding their own health. In FY2015, more than 16,000 school age children were engaged in hands on learning provided by 260 faculty, staff and students.

The School of the Sciences is hosting their annual Expanding Your Horizons event, which encourages middle school girls from all across MD (including Baltimore City schools) to pursue STEM careers.

Two STEM Expos were held in October 2015 for the K-12 students of Galena Park and Pasadena, Texas, through partnership with Communities In Schools. The events were supported by funding from an American Chemical Society grant.

Deputy District Commander Major Michael Busby and Tapestry Charter School Director Joy Pepper signed a Memorandum of Understanding to provide a foundation for cooperation in advancing Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at the Tapestry Charter School, Buffalo, NY, May 14, 2014.

 

It is anticipated that the partnership will include projects related to Civil Works and other Corps of Engineer functions (such as environmental protection projects) that support the school's STEM goals. Primarily, USACE Buffalo District intends to enlist STEM professionals to engage with students and to increase professional development opportunities for the faculty and administration.
