A stem cell can be defined by two specific characteristics:

1.Endless self-renewal, with no limitations or maximum number of replications.

2.Capability to differentiate into any tissue type and cell line in the body.

A stem cell can replicate itself or differentiate into cells that carry out the specific functions of the body. The application of stem cells in regenerative medicine and disease therapeutics is one of the most exciting advances in medical science today. In cell-based therapies, stem cells may play two roles. The first role is as drug-delivery vehicles. The second role is as therapeutic agents themselves. Stem cells also offer opportunities for scientific advances that go far beyond cell-based therapies. Creative Biolabs is dedicated to facilitate the research of stem cells in both basic science and therapeutics development. Elementary teachers learn how they can teach concepts related to sound and waves. The K-5 STEM project is a three year project that includes 67 elementary teachers and is led by scientists, mathematicians and educators from UW Oshkosh.

Brookhaven Lab staff and visiting students offered hands-on science demonstrations that included a cloud chamber that revealed electron tracks, sound and light sensitive microcontrollers, tricky engineering attempts, and robotic building blocks.

Ursuline celebrated STEM Day on Wednesday, March 24. Hands-on experiments taught students about science, technology, engineering, and math in creative ways.

Visitors to the Goodman South Madison Library on April 5, 2014, were able to spend their mornings having fun exercising their minds at the Navigant STEM Fair. Kids and their families had the opportunity to investigate Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, thanks to volunteers from Navigant, who organized and ran the fair in partnership with the library. Activities included exploring MG&E’s Pedal Power Generator, a Lego Robotics demonstration, the “Science of Goo”, dissecting an owl pellet, creating a battery using food, an an electricity demonstration. Arachnophobe or Fan? The STEM Spiders Science workshop for High School students was held on Dec. 1, 2012.

Students learned about various myths, facts and folklore of spiders. They collected spiders around campus and using a microscope identified the spiders and calculated the diversity indices.

Education and Fun, All Rolled Into One!

A unique educational experience that gets students EXCITED about learning! Students will learn how the concepts of SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING and MATH can be found in everyday experiences, even FUN experiences like ROLLER SKATING!

Our professional STEM Educators teach visiting students about how STEM principles exist in just about every part of life. The lessons focus on hands on activities that are both educational and fun! Lessons are customized based on teachers needs to DIRECTLY RELATE back to classroom learning making this program completely unique! Following the completion of the 1hour STEM Lesson, the students roller skate for physical fitness. While Roller Skating the concepts students learned are continually reinforced.

Our lessons are designed not only to help students overcome their fear of learning STEM concepts but to show how STEM is both FUN & EXCITING!

IU Kokomo hosted a family STEM event on April 26, 2019 to encourage young people to explore the sciences.
