Arachnophobe or Fan? The STEM Spiders Science workshop for High School students was held on Dec. 1, 2012.
Students learned about various myths, facts and folklore of spiders. They collected spiders around campus and using a microscope identified the spiders and calculated the diversity indices.

MODEL RELEASED. Stem cell research. Cultures of stem cells growing in petri dishes. Stem cells are pluripotent, they are able to differentiate into any of the cell types of the body. Stem cell differentiation can be initiated in the laboratory by the use of biochemical growth factors. Stem cells are a potential source of cells to repair damaged tissue in diseases such as Parkinson's and insulin-dependent diabetes

The Center for STEM Education hosted the 3rd annual West Point Middle School STEM Workshop May 29-June 1, with 110 students throughout the nation participating in this hands-on exploration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Before all the learning began, students were divided into platoons and squads, tasked with designing and building a team sign using K’NEX building blocks. Creativity and engineering quality counted in this project as each one was judged for points added to the scores from STEM Games at the end of each day. The games included a bridging competition, robot rodeo and pulley contest. Photo by Mike Strasser, West Point Public Affairs
NAS Oceana and the Virginia Beach City Public School (VBCPS) system have once again partnered to provide every fifth-grader enrolled in Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) the opportunity to take a one-of-kind field trip to Naval Air Station (NAS) Oceana, Friday, Sept. 15. The special Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Lab Day, was part of the annual Air Show. This event is being provided free of cost for all students and every child had a chance to take part in hands-on activities and learn about STEM careers in a real-world setting. This included displays and exhibits from NASA Langley, the Office of Naval Research and Naval Research Laboratory, Navy Expeditionary Combat Command, Wesleyen University, Engineering for Kids, Old Dominion University, Landstown High School, Navy history and heritage command, U.S. Naval research laboratory and Virginia Department of Transportation.

Another view showing the logo. The stem turned out to be a good length on my Bob Jackson bike. Rescued from a discard bin of a local bike shop, it was found in very scarred condition, but it cleaned up nicely after the anodizing was removed. The expander bolt was still in fine condition. Always nice to rescue damaged goods.
