This spot on the fence is proving to be a nice location for a portrait. The other day it was a Flicker. Just after it left, this Stellar's Jay (Cyanocitta stelleri) dropped in to see what was going on!

hi an image captured last sunday at midnight on Higgor Tor in the Peak District ...a liitle bit of light pollution to contend with but far better than the concrete jungle of Milton Keynes where i live :):)

a gull flying through "a galaxy" of poplar seeds drifting up toward the sun. HSS!

The 2017 total solar eclipse is about to kick off in the USA shortly but I think these night skies are even more spectacular. Here's a Milky Way shot from a recent trip across the Simpson Desert in Australia. Our campsite was just north of the QAA Line on the border between Queensland and the Northern Territory. The moon was just setting but there was still enough fading light to show up the foreground. The Small Magellanic Cloud is clearly visible above the horizon.

Not an easy image to capture, dark bird against a light background, ugh! These guys are only around twice per year. The next time they come down from the forest will be with their young and that's a very loud event.

Pea in a bottle.

Well what to do for Macro Mondays Green theme?

Seriously. How should I know?

Now I could say that I was resolved to create a graphic artwork of profound relevance and artistry by using clever compositional devices (repeated circles, subtle green tones, bokeh, whatever) and for contrast I intentionally juxtaposed (don’t you just love the sound of that word?) the organic and the inorganic…

Or I could admit this was the first and, worse, the only thing I thought of because… well, both were green weren’t they?

And they say a good photograph conveys a narrative, a story for the viewer to create in their own minds… Well if you can think of a story with a pea and a beer bottle you are doing considerably better than I am. All is lost (as I have suspected for some while now).

MM is probably full of green bottles today; I haven’t dared check. But here, in any case, is my offering born of viridian desperation :)

The neck of the bottle is 1 inch across, and the pea is... a bit smaller ;)

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image! Happy Macro Mondays :)

[Set on a tabletop in my dining room imaging studio. Back lit with one LED torch; some fill-in light from the front with another (but I quite liked the high contrast effect so very little of the latter in this version).

Tripod; remote release; LiveView focus; VR off to reduce vibration.

All the developing and processing in Affinity Photo.

Because of the very high dynamic range I used an HDR merge of 12 images all at f40 with varying shutter speeds. This got detail into the highlights and the dark bits.

No real play with colour… Sharpened using Unsharp Mask, square crop to emphasise the circles, dark vignette to deemphasise the edges, a bit of cleaning up of stray pixels and that was it :)]
