The Stellar's Jays (Cyanocitta stelleri) have been rather scarce over the last few weeks. I suppose with the hot weather they were up north.

This immature bird paid us a visit yesterday. I was happy to see it!

Zion is a great place to re-connect with the night sky, or maybe even get your first view of the Milky Way. Zion protects this dark sky resource for future generations by not lighting up the night. This means that after sunset, the park is very dark so be prepared.

Here's an immature Stellar's Jay (Cyanocitta stelleri) sitting on our fence.

The Stellar's have been quite active in our yard lately. Yesterday we had 6 all at once! I think 4 of them were immature fledglings! So exciting having them all together!

This little guy was not very shy so I had to get on the ground and talk with him a little :)

I haven't posted this as a great Aurora image as the display on this evening was pretty good and I took hundreds of better shots of the dancing green lights. I posted this as I was absolutely amazed at the number of stars that I could see as I stood on the shore at the head of Lyfjord, near Tromso in Norway.

You feel infinitesimally small as you stare into a night sky like this and see such a sight. I am not astronomer or comfortable with astro photography, but I was fascinated just staring into the clear night sky. A good friend tells me that the tight cluster of stars to the left of the streak in the left of the frame is Pleiades!

Sorry for indulging me with this one, but I was captivated at the time!

Lots of these Stellar's Jays around Clear Lake this weekend. I saw them eating spiders and stuff off the trees. I made the mistake again of having my sensor on crop mode, but this shot turned out have a decent resolution regardless.

A portrait of a handsome Stellar's Jay (Cyanocitta stelleri) on our porch rail demanding it's peanuts! It's demands can be heard all over the neighbourhood.

This is definitely my kind of Corvid!

A Stellar's Jay (Cyanocitta stelleri) in our Empress tree, which is right beside our deck, where I was sitting. It nonchalantly jumped down to the rail and went to the peanut container. About 3 feet from where I was sitting. Cheeky!

Stellar waves dude. ;-)

I get Steller's jays in my yard all the time, but this might be the best looking one I ever saw up close.
