First astro party after a long time. Layers of dust and some clouds end our gathering a little early but it was nice to meet everyone again!
Foggy twilight. Canon 5Dmk4, Sigma Art 14 mm. North of Athens, Greece, Nov. 4, 2021. On the right, there is a part of mt. Parnitha and at the center, far away, is the peak of mt. Penteli.
*The term "psychedelic" is derived from the Ancient Greek words psychē (ψυχή, "soul") and dēloun (δηλοῦν, "to make visible, to reveal"), translating to "mind-manifesting". In everyday language, we use it for all those things, colors, feelings, sensations, which take us out of the ordinary, and give us an "escape route" to a dreamy world.

Nash point - Starscape, had a full night doing photography along the Glamorgan heratiage coast testing out my new head torch, it was a cold one but I loved spending some decent time on photography. Lots more to come.
The pleasure of watching stars at their ultimate beauty is something so satisfying, no words can match. An 8 minute exposure shot at f/2, ISO 100 (on a tracker). The giant rock is illuminated by a low level LED light.
Photographed from one of the darkest place in Earth. Category 1 dark site, darkest theoretical dark sky there is in Earth.

A lone tree is illuminated by the rising moon over the red soil of Mutawintji National Park. We have been offline travelling in the remote Outback of Australia for the past two weeks seeking some quiet contemplation.
The rugged, mulga-clad Byngnano Range is dissected by colourful gorges, rockpools and creek beds lined with red gums. Mutawintji is an ancient landscape revered by the local Aboriginal people and in 1998, after a long struggle by the traditional owners, management of their land was returned to them. It is now held by the Mutawintji Local Aboriginal Land Council and a Board of Management oversees the operation of the park. Formerly called Mootwingee National Park, is a protected national park that is located in the Far West region of New South Wales, in eastern Australia.

Stretching through the night sky, the Milky Way seems to come to a rest upon "Hopi Clown", a Moenave sandstone formation found deep within a remote canyon on the Navajo Nation in Arizona.
As a landscape astrophotographer, I have a very ambivalent relationship with clouds. When I am out shooting, I basically want clear skies. Clouds are considered a nuisance.
On the other hand, it is undeniable that clouds can add a lot of mood to a scene, if they are in the right position.
That's a big if though. It seems that most clouds have a tendency to block the Milky Way, while leaving the uninteresting parts of the sky clear. I call them the bad clouds.
While shooting with @benjaminbarakat at this tranquil lake in the Swiss Alps, the lenticular clouds were however mostly hugging the the horizon, blocking the worst of the light pollution and nicely framing the Milky Way. Even the small cloud in front of the galactic core carefully positioned itself so as not to block any important part. Those were definitely good clouds.

This is probably the last image of the galactic centre for the season. It will be back in the night sky in January.
Ages since my last startrail...this one is from yesterday evening.
I'm not happy with the result...but it was cold, wet and we were very late, so it's better than expected :D
An Abandoned barn, Moon and the Milky Way in an eerie harmony.
One more image from my "Abandoned" series. Capturing Milky Way straight against the moon this time with an old abandoned barn in the foreground to get that phantomish feel.

Still buffeted by strong winds from a passing storm, the resilient Nugget Point Lighthouse built in 1869 on South Island New Zealand's east coast continues to throw its light into the night sky that is also shared with the distant city lights of Dunedin, the Milky Way stretching overhead, Venus rising over the horizon, and the Small Magellanic Cloud.
The night of the Perseids meteor shower i stayed at the beach watching the show till the sun came up. This is a two shots stitched together with image composite editor. The panorama was made with a 24mm lens, iso 3200 and 30sec. The colors of the dawn combined with artificial lighting from near houses above the beach created a magic moment to remember!
Another of the shots taken at the lighthouse at El Cotillo. Further away this time so the scaffolding is not so prominent.
Just out a hot bath when my aurora app sounded... go out in the freezing cold with my camera?? Oh yes indeed!
As seen near the summit of Mount Evans high in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, and with the Milky Way as a backdrop, meteors streak across the night sky during the 2016 Pleiades Meteor Shower. (This is a composite of multiple images as no more than two streaking meteors were ever captured within a single image.)
A shot of the ancient Corfe Castle during the Super blood moon. Taken from underneath the old steam-railway bridge, dodging traffic I watched the moon turn red as it hung over the starry skies.

Summer has definately arrived here in Switzerland with temperatures reaching 100°F. Time for cooling down - at least visually - with an image from one of those crispy cold winter nights in February.
