Backlit version of the "Extended Star-Flower" and a bit of post-processing. I love backlit versions of origami tessellations, it makes the pattern more vivid.

It is one tessellation, but with two different sides, the other side looks like this.

Not yet the final version…… ;-)

Folded with "Anett-Paper', grid 1:96,hexagon of 43cm.

Delicate blossoms of ipheion uniflorum at Filoli. Also known as starflowers, they originated in Argentina, Uruguay and southern Brazil. It is related to the onions, so is placed in the allium subfamily (Allioideae) of the Amaryllidaceae.

Don't know much about this plant. It was growing in front of one of the condos where we live. I see where it got part of its name.

I believe this is a Starflower due to a repetition of the star pattern in lower leaves

"An unidentified flying starflower has been detected in orbit around earth last night. So far, it didn't responded to any contact attempt. We will keep you informed", according to the Newspaper O-Ri_G_A-Mi.

I folded one molecule from my origami tessellation 'Dance' to create this "Origami Starflower". It is 3D shaped, hope you can see it.

Mostly I start with showing first just one molecule and then a larger tessellation with more molecules connected in some way or another. Must be because I like the irregular hexagon shape so much ;-))

You can also change a whole field of big 'Basics' hexagons" into this origami tessellation "Star-flowers".

For some reason this variation wants to be a bowl, I hope you can see the 3D. Left is top view and on the right you are looking inside, which in real is white, but because it is backlit it gates color ;-))

I folded it from a hexagon about 33cm, German wrapping paper, grid 1:64.

Finished model about 18cm.

Update: it landed!! Here you can see the side view .

This time I folded the 'Starflower' from glassine and on a bigger grid 1:32, so I had more space left at the edges to invent this origami "Spaceship".

Hexagon about 15cm, finished model about 9cm.

I like to fold with different kind of paper and with different colors. The textures and the color inspire me in creating the model, but also finding the name and sometimes a little story ;-)
