Memory that stands out: He made a house call and ended up being the cable guy. “I went in and a couple of older ladies were struggling to put their TV together, hooking it to cable. I hooked up the cable for them. They were sisters. I sold to the sister before so when I went in, she said, ‘Moe, do you know anything about this?’ I could see them struggling and said, ‘sure.’ So I finished putting the TV together for them.”

Volunteers from the Alaska National Guard and Alaska State Defense Force joined forces with community members to assist with Operation Stand Down 2016 at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airportâs North Terminal Oct. 21. Stand Down is a yearly event where more than 400 volunteers provide key resources to homeless or near-homeless veterans.

Stanwick church stands within the massive and extensive earthworks of the Brigantes great Iron Age headquarters, destroyed by the Romans in their great struggle with the proud Venutius in AD71. The church boasts an early pedigree and there is a 9th C cross shaft displayed in the church. Sadly the whole building was systematically neutered by that well known Victorian butcher, Anthony Salvin in the 1860’s, it’s now a sad pastiche of what it must have been before his dead, heavy hand mutilated it, few items avoided his destructive gaze. There is a lovely monument to the local Smithsons, who have an illustrious family history, creating the Smithsonian Institute in America and marrying well, into the great Percy dynasty and becoming Earls of Northumberland. The monument is close to one of Clayton and Bells limp windows and is a real pig to photograph, needing a lot of HDR work to bring it to life.
