Looking up this stairwell it looks so pretty the the natural sunlight beaming through, but man oh man a completely different story looking down. Mall parking stairs
There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for…

It's often difficult to photograph the forest. The tangles of branches and all the undergrowth creates so much chaos that finding a composition becomes quite a challenge. I hadn't seen another person during a 2 1/2 mile loop that I was following along the coastline looking for an opening in the forest canopy so that I could get an open shot of the seastack directly to the south of me. After an hour of unsuccessful forest breaches(Bushwacking)while looking for an opening all the time exploring and enjoying the forest. I eventually found a trail (if you could call it that) leading down the cliffside and made my way down onto the beach which was just about the same time that the rain started pouring down much worse than before. After another hour I departing dejectedly, but I was eager to get back to the car as It had rained much of the trek and to make matters even worse I had forgotten my water in the back seat of the car. Not that it would be a big problem because I always carry a "LifeStraw" with me and have already used it a couple of times, but I'm not sure if it works in salt water and I'm not Bear Grylls so there would be no drinking from a leaf at this point but for 20 bucks I don't need to carry the weight of water along with the 35 lbs. of camera gear which is always strapped to my back.(HotTipOfTheDay)
On the way back to the car, just before I reached the parking lot there was this set of stairs that I really hadn't notice on my way down, but when seen from the opposite direction appears entirely different. I'm going to start looking behind me more often. Luckily the trail leads back on the same stretch of trail as the entry path or I would have never noticed this spot. :)
This shot was taken on a flat dull light day, and I have really been cramming on luminosity masking so through the magic of this technique I was able to bring out the little bit of light that was present in the raw file. This added some depth and dimension to the scene which is how I had envisioned the scene when I captured it. :)

Stairway to Heaven (Led Zeppelin)
Tenía frio y no pedía fuego, tenía terrible sed y no pedía agua; pedía libros, es decir horizontes, es decir, escaleras para subir la cumbre del espíritu y del corazón.
-- Federico García Lorca --
He was cold and did not ask for fire, he was terribly thirsty and did not ask for water; he asked for books, that is, horizons, that is stairs to climb the summit of the spirit and the heart.

The obvious words that sprang to my mind when first viewing the marvelous 600 steps at the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte near Braga, Portugal was Stairway to Heaven. This basilica with its Manueline Baroque staircase is truly amazing. Penitents have been known to climb these stairs on their knees.

"My life is a stairway to heaven, not a 'decline into decrepitude'."
