This window in a house in Pittsburgh, a legacy of construction in a different time, struck me. Such a beautiful piece.

Seen on service 446 at Staines Bus Station.

Staines Bus Station is typically awful for bus photographs, with the sun in the wrong place. However, it turns out that the sun is spot on first thing in the morning (this was around 0830), so here is 64 enjoying the sunshine at Staines.

I tried to sum up the stained glass solutions I used in the past.

Left: nine Cheese, one 1x2 tile, two 1x1 Brick(or six 1x1 plates), two 1x2 plates

Middle Left: three Cheese, one 1x2 tile, one 1x2 plate

Middle right: four Cheese, one 1x1 brick (or three 1x1 plate), one 1xX plate

Right: two Cheese, one 1x1 Brick(or three 1x1 plates)

Use plates, to get an even more stained glass effect.

Of course, all the windows are slightly stressed. But it's in a takeable area, I never had any issues. Use on your own risk ;))...

Having caught the bus to Cheriton, we were very pleasantly surprised that St Michael and All Angels was open and we could go in and look at the windows.

All Hallows Staining (meaning 'stone') is the tower left from a church dating c. 1320 hidden amongst taller 20th century office buildings in the Square Mile.

On other subjects and scenes this kind of processing could be somewhat 'kitschy', but I thought it was appropriate here?

Coventry Cathedral 1962

A tiny snapshot of a giant work of art that is part of the cathedral.

The artist John Piper was asked to design the stained glass. His view was that with 198 small areas of window to fill, the glass needed dazzling colour and an abstract pattern to create unity.

Working with glassmaker Patrick Reyntiens, he created the window from thousands of differently-sized pieces of glass to visually vary the space and rest the eye.
