The SST-31 flamethrower is designed for CQC and bunker busting raids in the war against the "Cinnamon" drug being smuggled into the US. This weapon coincidentally was first used on the notorious Pumpkin Reapers gang on October the 31st. The gang was holding up in an old pumpkin patch where they kept caches of heavy weapons and a key place for producing the drug. Their field plan during an emergency, was to throw the drug making equipment into a hidden cellar (later discovered by forensic scientists), grab a weapon, and run and fight in the fields. Which was exactly what they did.

This posed a problem. It was obviously too dangerous to send a team into the high vegetation against men with M60s, RPGs and AK47s. Helicopters were ordered to fall back so they could not become targets for their RPGs. And they could not surround and close-in to the field, because not only could there be heavy casualties, but hostiles could even slip passed them if they wanted to.

The only option to prevent the most bloodshed was to use this weapon to set fire to the Southern and Eastern part of the field while cop cars waited patiently on the Western and Northern sides; flushing them out. They would either burn to death or flee to to the vehicles where they could be arrested.

Of the 48 or so people operating the drug plant, only 5 were killed and two severly injured. One was burned to death, one was severly burned but alive, one was shot in the shoulder and leg. The other four were shot to death as they ran out guns blazing. Everyone else surrendered and were promptly arrested.

On October 21, 2006, I asked my friend, Akemi Takeda who lives in New York City to take some photographs at the same approximate time as I would while living in Fujisawa-shi, Japan. The idea was simple. Without having any larger conceptual ideas or specific subject matter, we take a photograph each from own separate view points on the opposite side of the earth. We decided to think about things such as content and meaning as we shoot; we simply jumped into this project.

Since 2006 we have done this "Same Time" project and have put up the images on my blog once a week for four and half years.

Akemi and I have never discussed anything prior to the "Same Time" except when we take the photos. Even though the images are taken in two completely different locations: a big international city such as New York, US and a peaceful suburb of Fujisawa, Japan, the activity of putting 2 photos together with their only common feature "being same time" occasionally show some surprising and unexpected results. It is interesting to find various meanings and mysteries of human emotions that are reflected within each "same time" photo.

On 31 August 2017 a prototype telescope proposed for CTA, the SST-1M, recorded its first events while undergoing testing at the Institute of Nuclear Physics Polish Academy of Sciences (IFJ-PAN) in Krakow, Poland. The SST-1M is proposed as one of CTA’s Small-Sized Telescopes (SSTs), which will cover the high end of CTA’s energy range, between about 1 and 300 TeV (tera-electronvolts).

The original Reliant Scimitar SS1 was launched in 1984, with the aim of filling a gap in the small sportscar market. with a body designed by Michelotti and a chassis inspired by the Lotus Elan. The 1.3 L (later replaced with a 1.4 L) and 1.6 L engines were Ford CVH units, front mounted driving the rear wheels through a four-speed gearbox on the 1300 and 1400, and a five-speed gearbox with the 1600.

The car was redesigned as the SST in 1990, the t standing for the designer and stylist William Towns More than a mere facelift, the new body was also of a very different construction. The SS1's bodypanels were mounted on a steel framework, itself mounted to the chassis, while the SST's body was of a "semi-monocoque" design fixed directly to the chassis. The bodywork, consisting of two large pieces (front and rear), thus did not suffer the unsightly panel gaps that were so characteristic of the SS1. Engines were either Nissan 1800T1 or Ford CVH 1400cc

The Scimitar Sabre was the final itineration of the Scimitar Based on the chassis of the SS1 and SST, it was announced in October 1991 and launched in 1992 with the same 1.4 Ford engine and 1.8 Nissan engines as before.a restyle followed in 1993 with the introduction of the new Rover K-series 1.4 L engine, with a top speed of 113 mph (181.9 km/h) and acceleration 0-60 mph in 9.4 seconds. The Sabre was visually different with larger 15 inch wheels and flared wheel arches.

* This car was listed as having an engine 1998cc.
