Having looked at older vehicles in the first two images this week, here's something for the future.
Bloodhound SSC is a British land vehicle currently in development which it is hoped will match or exceed 1,000 mph (1,609 km/h) achieving a new world land speed record. The pencil-shaped car, powered by a jet engine and a rocket engine is designed to reach 1,050 mph (1,690 km/h). It is being developed and built with the intention of breaking the land speed record by 33%, the largest-ever margin.
Runway testing of up to 200 mph (320 km/h) took place on 26, 28 and 30 October 2017 in Newquay, Cornwall using a prototype Eurojet EJ200 jet engine originally developed for the Eurofighter.
When the full runs eventually take place, this jet engine will take the car to 300 mph (480 km/h), after which a bespoke hybrid (and throttleable) rocket designed by NAMMO will boost the car up to 1,000 mph (1,609 km/h). A third engine, a Jaguar supercharged V-8, will be used as an APU and to drive the oxidiser pump for the rocket.
Bloodhound SSC will be tested on the Hakskeen Pan in the Mier area of the Northern Cape, South Africa where a track 12 miles (19 km) long, 2 miles (3.2 km) wide has been cleared, before commencing an attempt on the record, hopefully in the latter half of 2018.
Of note, the four 36-inch (910 mm) diameter wheels will rotate at up to 10,200 rpm and will be forged from an aluminum zinc alloy to resist the 50,000g centrifugal forces.
Seen in the Engineering section of the NewScientistLive event at the ExCel Exhibition Centre in Newham, London, in September. I hadn't planned it, but none of the 11 people in the image is looking at the car...
This is an Etihad Airways A380-861 Airbus just out of Heathrow Airport - left at 15:45 bound for Abu Dhabi on a flight of 6 hours and 22 minutes landing at 01:07 . Etihad Airways is the second largest airline in The United Arab Emirates .
That little lot sounds a bit nerdy but I just googled the planes registration ( visible on a previous shot ) and the first result came up with all this info as well - so I added it !!
The shot was taken for SSC Challenge - things that fly ! I was determined to get whatever flies actually in flight . Birds and butterflies in flight is a challenge to far , I have captured birds in flight before now but those shot are few and far between and more by luck than judgement - so an aeroplane on a predictable course of flight was the next way to go . We live quite a long way from Heathrow but regularly see planes on their climb for height fly overhead . We also see a lot of light aircraft and helicopters go over on a lower and different flightpath , even this evening a trio of bi-planes flew over but were gone before I could react .
I have spent a number of afternoons this week out there this week eyes to the skies but have still gone for this shot from last Sunday afternoon , mostly for the mystery of the aeroplane being enveloped by cloud !!
So here is the shot and this is 100% SOOC !!
Obviously for sight and sound there is only one track to choose .
Actually made this one back in January before the Budgie Dynames and just never got around to posting it. It's an SSC of this set that still leaves the majority of parts leftover.
Way more posable than most of my stuff, which makes it a lot of fun.

"Portray femininity or masculinity in a photo"
Last time we had this challenge I took a shot to portray femininity , so this time I should do masculinity .
Not a straightforward thing to do these days without upsetting the" P.C " brigade .
So , at first sight I hear you all asking ,
" what is he on about ? " with my shot here . Well my shot is to portray the music genre that is " Prog Rock " or " Progressive Rock " and particularly in the late 60s and early 70s when Prog first graced ears . During these years there were very few female artists and just as few females listening to or going to Prog concerts . I do know of an odd couple back in the day , for instance Sonja Kristina fronting and playing electric violin for Curved Air who I saw play at The Greyhound in Croydon I think it was . By and large though Prog Rock was know as a bit of a boy's club back then - so that is why this is my shot of masculinity .
Progressive rock was first made in the late 1960s, but became most popular in the 1970s. It continues to be popular today, too. Progressive rock began in England and spread throughout Europe. It remains most popular in Europe, but there are several notable American and Canadian progressive rock bands. This genre was influenced by classical music and jazz fusion. Over the years, different sub-genres of progressive rock have been created, such as symphonic rock, art rock, math rock, and progressive metal.
Progressive rock artists wished to create music that was not limited to the structures of common popular rock and pop music. They wanted to make rock music that "progressed" to the complexity of jazz and classical music by creating a more serious, complex and sophisticated type of rock music. Progressive rock bands may have influences from psychedelic rock, folk music, traditional music, world music, and jazz or jazz fusion. It is also referred to as "prog rock" as an abbreviation, or as "Hobbit rock" because of frequent medieval or fantasy themes in the lyrics.
Progressive rock bands write and play songs that have many changes during each song. Regular rock songs have verses and a chorus, but progressive songs can have many different sections. For example, instead of having verses and choruses, progressive rock songs may have many different musical themes, solos, and musical moods. A typical progressive song might have a form such as: Introduction-Verse-Chorus-instrumental section-New verse-New chorus-Instrumental section-Ending. Because of their depth and complexity, progressive rock songs are not played on pop music radio very often. ( Listen to " The Long Player " on Planet Rock on a Sunday evening - all forms of rock played including Prog and tracks of nearly half an hour are not uncommon !!! ) .
Some of the important progressive rock bands from the late 1960s and early 1970s include The Moody Blues, Jethro Tull; Yes, Genesis; Pink Floyd; Emerson; Lake & Palmer; Rush; Gentle Giant; Happy The Man; Van der Graaf Generator, and King Crimson.
Talking of King Crimson , this should be quite apt ---

With the above, I have posted a similar one to this sunrise before but this has the sun in a different position and it is cropped to highlight the main part of the bridge.
Taken for SSC 17/11/2018 - odd number subject .
Well my first thought for this challenge was a shot from last Sunday ( see first comment box ) - now there is a 50/50 chance the number of birds is an odd number , BUT - I kept losing count like Diederik and his leaves ! On the other hand there is a wild card in the shape of another bird in the sky ( top centre - light aircraft ) to make the number odd . However that is not the ethos of the challenge so start from scratch and with the number of birds at our feeders at home this should be easy ! Not So , the lighting was awkward and the birds were all over the place and no chance to compose a shot . I did get seven in one shot but it was well messy and a muddle to view but then a few started to rest a while . Managed this shot in the end even if it is a bit soft and not so crisp as I would like . A bit tricky with the low sun behind the birds but I hope the vignette helps a bit .
Since we put the feeders out I have spent a long time in the garden and the number of birds and the variety of breeds continues to grow and of course it is fascinating watching them .
Well the title of the song is " Three Black Crows " but I reckon that is close enough to listen to a bit of Blackmores Night .

There is no goal so noble, or cause so worthy, as the silent conquering of self.
ThrustSSC, Thrust SSC, or Thrust supersonic car, is a British jet-propelled car developed by Richard Noble, Glynne Bowsher, Ron Ayers and Jeremy Bliss.[1]
Thrust SSC holds the World Land Speed Record, set on 15 October 1997, when it achieved a speed of 1,228 km/h (763 mph) and became the first car to officially break the sound barrier.
Taken for SSC 06/04/2019 - Trees .
I started out taking a shot of the curly wurly tree in our garden ( see link to view )

but was not happy with the clarity of the shot . However , on the approach to the local church there are a number of trees which look quite fascinating , none in leaf yet but so green with a parasitic growth forming globular green patches about four feet diameter . Hands up who knows what the growth is -- for those that are unsure , it is mistletoe !
I am not so sure what the main trees are but there is a good half dozen if not more covered with the bunches of mistletoe !!
Quite what made me choose sepia to present the shot I am not sure , but somehow I liked it .
Welcome to the Mistletoe Pages, a website packed with information about mistletoe; its biology, traditions, cultivation and conservation.
( taken from " The Mistletoe Pages " )
The site is mainly about the ‘original’ mistletoe of northern Europe, and concentrates mostly on its status, management, conservation and traditions in the UK.
This species is technically known as European White-berried Mistletoe, Viscum album. Most people just call it Mistletoe of course.
There are many other mistletoes around the world, including some others used in Christmas and midwinter celebrations, but Europe’s Viscum album is the original and, arguably, the best mistletoe.
Most popular traditions were originally based on this species, so it’s particularly important in folklore.
And it is the only mistletoe that has the distinctive forked branches, paired symmetrical evergreen leaves and pearlescent white berries associated with midwinter and Christmas.
But other mistletoe species feature in the website too, so do have a look around even if you don’t have the original mistletoe growing in your neighbourhood!
and from Wikipedia
Mistletoe is the English common name for most obligate hemiparasitic plants in the order Santalales. They are attached to their host tree or shrub by a structure called the haustorium, through which they extract water and nutrients from the host plant. Their parasitic lifestyle have led to some dramatic changes in their metabolism.
The name mistletoe originally referred to the species Viscum album (European mistletoe, of the family Santalaceae in the order Santalales); it is the only species native to the British Isles and much of Europe. A separate species, Viscum cruciatum, occurs in Southwest Spain and Southern Portugal, as well as Morocco (North Africa) and southern Africa.
Over the centuries, the term has been broadened to include many other species of parasitic plants with similar habits, found in other parts of the world, that are classified in different genera and even families—such as the Misodendraceae and the Loranthaceae.
In particular, the eastern mistletoe native to North America, Phoradendron leucarpum, belongs to a distinct genus of the family Santalaceae. The genus Viscum is not native to North America, but Viscum album has been introduced to California. European mistletoe has smooth-edged, oval, evergreen leaves borne in pairs along the woody stem, and waxy, white berries that it bears in clusters of two to six. The Eastern mistletoe of North America is similar, but has shorter, broader leaves and longer clusters of 10 or more berries.
For Sight and Sound an obvious choice is Rush but as an extra one I have not heard before is Jon and Rick Wakeman
