Colas Rail Freight Class 56 Nos. 56105 and 56094 pass Whitchester in the Tyne Valley top 'n' tailing 3J78, the 08:39 Nunthorpe – Carlisle RHTT on 30 October 2025. The 'call forward' signals were for the now disused Melkridge Sidings, once the coal loading point for Plenmeller open-cast mine which had a relatively short life, opening in 1991 and closing in 2000.

Finally a local 3Q99 in daylight which saw 69005 and 69006 run from Doncaster Roberts Road to Rotherham Masborough and back late this afternoon.

Macro Monday: plastic

Look long enough and hard enough you’ll get the idea.

I can't remember the last time I did a fun bokeh/circles of confusion shot.

Luckily, while reading in the master bedroom yesterday afternoon I happened to notice my atomizer spraying by itself, so I took a picture of it. ;-)

Gorgeous frothy waves throwing off some spray

Back to work tomorrow so I thought I would make the effort and head out for the sunrise at Loch Beinn a' Mheadhoin in Glen Affric. The car displayed -6°C on the way and my fingers soon confirmed this as I struggled with the camera and filters.

There were some strange and colourful clouds in the sky for a while, reflected by the still water of the loch so I think braving the cold conditions was worthwhile.

I was back home by 10am for some much needed breakfast!

Mt. Rainier National Park. We arrived just a little late to catch the sun's rays lighting up the top of the falls in a golden flame.

Welcombe Mouth Beach is on the north Devon coast. It’s a spectacular location with hundreds of compositions, but basically on this day I just pointed the camera at the light. The sea was coming in and hitting the rocks and creating beautiful spray which was being lit by the sun.

Graffiti - lots of spraying here!

This young seagull was actually vigorously scratching an itch, but in this photo it appears to be ducking from the spray of a wave.

Taken at Northpoint in Gracetown. The surf was pumping and I got a lot of photos of people getting barrelled but the light was terrible. I just like this shot for the confusion it portrays.

From my hiking along the Northsea coast. Handheld camera.

Two tripods. Thanks Alex for the lighting on the can.

Spray Falls was not on my radar so imagine my surprise upon stumbling on this. It starts as a horsetail all of about 10 feet wide and then the free fall down the cliff side spreads it out to up too 100 feet during it's 354 foot drop. On a 90 degree day this is a great place to be as evidenced by my fellow observers. Lot's of smiles all around. :-)

Out blossom hunting this morning, a welcome return to spring

Spray caught in the low evening sun at Godrevy, Cornwall

The sidings to the right were used to run around coal trains running on the Woodhouse to Worksop line and enable them to head south towards Barrow Hill and Chesterfield / Toton etc.
