In spite of the inclement weather, I was thrilled to capture this moody view. The low clouds obliterated the normally stunning Rocky Mountains.

This lovely gentian is extremely rare in North Georgia and the Southeastern United States. Its iridescent blue color is absolutely stunning, but, in spite of years of trying, I never seem able to capture an image that does it justice. I always have to hand hold my camera for fear of damaging plants with my tripod and the light is always very tricky as they only open on bright, sunny days. This biennial herb lives for two years, only flowering in their second season. After wading out into the poison ivy and brambles to locate specimens, I got to spend 30 minutes trying to remove the beggar's lice seeds that covered me from head to toe!
Being able to observe these lovely flowers in the field was worth the effort :-).
In spite of all the old barns and weathered farm houses that show up on my photostream, I grew up in Kansas City. I guess I’m just a city girl who always wanted to live on a farm…..
In spite of the rainy, dull weather, Cambridge Street was ablaze with massive Maple trees dressed in their stunning red Autumn leaves.
You have to see it to truly believe it!!
Vancouver, BC, Canada
Went for a walk today, in spite of the sub-zero temperatures, to enjoy this snowy waterfront district in brilliant sunshine.
This is a neighbourhood like no other. Centrally located on North Vancouver’s vibrant waterfront with unobstructed views of Vancouver’s stunning skyline to the south and the soaring North Shore Mountains to the north, The Shipyards District Lower Lonsdale, one of this city’s oldest and fastest growing urban neighbourhoods, is rich with shipbuilding history and bursting with life. theshipyardsdistrict.ca/
In spite of the cold temperatures here in northern Illinois, I still managed to get out and photograph a few ducks today. Shortly before sunset, I noticed this Bald Eagle flying overhead. I snapped the picture just as he passed over the moon. Unfortunately, the sun was setting behind the bird, so the light was not great. Kane County, Illinois

I'm not ready to leave the golden leaves of autumn yet, in spite of what it looks like outside right now :)

Photography, taken at the end of this winter, of the flowers of an almond tree, that in spite of the cold, the wind, the rain and the heavy snowfalls, was full of courage and bloomed when the weather, calmed down and made good weather.
Fotografía, tomada a finales de este invierno, de las flores de un almendro, que a pesar del frío, el viento, la lluvia y las fuertes nevadas, se llenó de valentía y floreció cuando el tiempo, se calmó e hizo buen tiempo.

Apologies for the title, I was playing with a Haiku

Maybe this is a reason why we might like to have more AI's

Hier genossen wir einen Tag auf Senja, diesmal zum skandinavischen "Indian Summer". Es waren wieder unvergessliche Eindrücke, so viele schöne, bunte Farben konnte man genießen - und eindrucksvolle Polarlichter dazu.
Again we enjoyed a day of Senja, this time for the Scandinavian "Indian Summer". There were unforgettable impressions again, so many beautiful, bright colors could be enjoyed - and impressive northern lights too.

Tromsø is a municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Tromsø.
Tromsø lies in Northern Norway. The 2,521-square-kilometre (973 sq mi) municipality is the 18th largest by area out of the 422 municipalities in Norway. Tromsø is the 9th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 71,590 (2014). The municipality's population density is 30.6 inhabitants per square kilometre (79/sq mi) and its population has increased by 15.9% over the last decade.[6][7] It is the largest urban area in Northern Norway and the third largest north of the Arctic Circle anywhere in the world (following Murmansk and Norilsk). Most of Tromsø, including the city centre, is located on the island of Tromsøya, 350 kilometres (217 mi) north of the Arctic Circle. In 2017, the city of Tromsø had a population of about 65,000 people spread out over Tromsøya and parts of Kvaløya and the mainland. Tromsøya is connected to the mainland by the Tromsø Bridge and the Tromsøysund Tunnel, and to the island of Kvaløya by the Sandnessund Bridge.
The municipality is warmer than most other places located on the same latitude, due to the warming effect of the Gulf Stream. Tromsø is even milder than places much farther south of it elsewhere in the world, such as on the Hudson Bay and in Far East Russia, with the warm-water current allowing for both relatively mild winters and tree growth in spite of its very high latitude.
The city centre of Tromsø contains the highest number of old wooden houses in Northern Norway, the oldest house dating from 1789. The city is a cultural centre for its region, with several festivals taking place in the summer. Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge of the electronica duo Röyksopp and Lene Marlin grew up and started their careers in Tromsø. Noted electronic musician Geir Jenssen also hails from Tromsø.

`Do we make sense, I think we do
In spite of everything that we've been through
Oh and you say black and I say white
It's not about who's wrong
As long as it feels right
Don't think those stars won't align
Under your scars I pray
You're like a shooting star in the rain
You're everything that feels like home to me, yeah
Under your scars, I could live inside you time after time
If you'd only let me live inside of mine
Live inside of mine

In spite of saving this toads life at least a couple of dozen times over the course of a summer season he does not look impressed with my efforts. Apparently my porch was the place to be that summer if you were a toad however I had several dogs that made it their quest to catch and not release this dude. He turned the porch into his own personal vacation villa. I found him on several mornings swimming and relaxing in the dogs water bowl. There were a few occasions when I opened my kitchen door to look for him before I put the dogs out and he was sitting staring at my door only about 2 inches away. I swear I could hear him knock sometimes......ha ha. It had a good ending as the dogs were not successful in having toad legs for dinner that entire summer.
Sitting on top of the cliffs on the edge of Taormina this beautiful amphitheatre looks south along the coast and towards Mount Etna (although hidden in cloud here)In spite of the ravages of time it's a place to see the world through Roman eyes.
♫ In spite of the way you were mocking me
Acting like I was part of your property
Remembering all the times you fought with me
I'm surprised it got so
Things aren't the way they were before
You wouldn't even recognize me anymore
Not that you knew me back then
But it all comes back to me in the end ♫

Birmingham city centre's most iconic building. ... In spite of all the things that goes on, The Rotunda has seen a lot of changes in Birmingham city centre and around it and the building continues to stand tall as it entered a new Millenium.
The Rotunda is a cylindrical highrise building in Birmingham, England. The Grade II listed building is 81 metres (266 ft) tall and was completed in 1965. Originally designed to be an office block, by architect James A. Roberts A.R.I.B.A., it was refurbished between 2004 and 2008 by Urban Splash with Glenn Howells who turned it into a residential building, with serviced apartments on 19th and 20th floors.
I am glad to say; this stood the test of time and remains a landmark for us, in Birmingham City... So just stand tall, stand proud. know that you are unique and magnificent. Because you do not need the approval of others!
Many thanks here, for your comments and compliments, my cool flickr friends !!!

NEGRELLI VIADUCT
GPS: 50°5'48.12"N, 14°26'26.88"E
The Negrelli Viaduct, is after the Charles Bridge, the second oldest still existing bridge over the river of Vltava in Prague. Its construction was requested by continuation of North state trunk road from Prague to Dresden. The viaduct spans over the valley of Karlín, a non-regulated flood area at that time, and two branches of Vltava, which are divided by the lower part of the Island of Štvanice.
Ing. Jan Perner (1815-1845), who died tragically, and Alois Negrelli (1799-1858), assistant of Lesseps in construction of the Suez channel, participated in the project. They decided on arch and partially segment structure type. Construction of the viaduct, which was realized by company Bratři Kleinové and company of Vojtěch Lanna, started in the spring 1846 and it was completed in 1850, when the first regular train went on the viaduct on 1st June.
It was the hugest railway construction in Europe at that time; 3000 Czech, German and Italian workers were working there. The material was Czech granite and the pillars had coating of sandstone. Length of the viaduct was 1130 m, original width was 7,60 m, and after removal of the stone parapet it was equal to 9 m. The viaduct had 90 arches. The railway line leading on the viaduct was double-line since the very beginning. As a whole the viaduct had a very stylish and balanced effect, and it was thought out in details as well. Project designers and builders executed a perfect technical work, as the bridge withstood the floods of Vltava and it bears huge weight increase of the present train wagons as well.
In 1952-1953 three arches over Křižíkova Street in Karlín were removed, as they had been a serious road obstruction in the present vehicle traffic. They were replaced with concrete beams. In 1981, the same was repeated above Bubenské embankment due to the same reasons. In spite of these tiny cosmetic modifications the Negrelli Viaduct is still proof of the fact that technical work may be realized at high aesthetic level.

Bryce Canyon is one of the most beautiful places we visited on our US tour.
Bryce Canyon is not a Canyon per say, but a series of large amphitheaters filled with colorful hoodoos, some spire-shaped rock formations.
According to the legend, the hoodoos are people turned into stone by the trickster Coyote...
In spite of all the cloudy cold weather here of late, spring is still doing its best to put on a good show and this shy little American goldfinch guy is close to being in full color now for the approaching summer nesting season.
I am neither addicted to death nor depressed, I am probably 'a bit or more' burnt out at the moment, yes I am.
I don't want to trivialise this. It is what it is.

Our grebes seem to be behind schedule. This time the last couple of years, I would have been watching several families by now. This year, nothing. A few pairs floating around together, but no babies. Till today. And they were SO far away. I watched them off and on for almost 3 hours, expecting some fishing and other family routines, hoping they would come closer. Mostly, I got an occasional swimming lesson. Shucks, I could barely use my Sony bird-eye focus since the parents were dozing most of the time. In spite of my complaining, it was a joyous occasion.
The time is out of joint: O cursed spite,
That ever I was born to set it right!

We have not had much rain this summer in spite of the many spectacular clouds. We are in a drought in the South West and especially Arizona. We did finally get some rain in the beginning of July and the end of summer. but was too late to turn the country side green :) I thought for sure with these clouds this day it would rain but it didn't :) This area is normally very green this time of year and spectacular to view. But I enjoyed the ride anyway and the beautiful view and just hope the rain comes back next year. Oh by the way, this is my one thousandth photo I have posted on Flickr since I joined in 2011 :) I wanted to post a photo that I love and would remember this day on so I posted my favorite vehicle of all times, the Jeep Gladiator Mojave in the spectacular White Mountains! The time on Flickr has been very enjoyable with all the friends I have made and made photography so much fun but also amazing how time flies :) Have a wonderful day and keep clicking away :)

Grundsund in May (in a partly tiltshift effect)
A fanatastic place to visit. We arrived on our bicycles after a super tour along the Coat Path from Fiskebackil. The red and white houses balance perfect to the blue sky and sea on this fine day.
We hade this fine view from our lunch place in the harbour where we enjoyed a fresh made shrimp sandwich and a cold beer.
From the net:
Grundsund is a typical Bohuslän fishing village, and yet not. For similarities to spite; boathouses, the closely spaced houses, etc., every coastal community its unique character and history.
Grundsunds history is primarily history of fishing. The transformation from fishing village to the skipper society and seaside resort, like many other coastal communities such as Fiskebäckskil went through in the 1800s, never worked in Grundsund.
In spite of all the trouble that the swallows had trying to nest in our yard, they managed to raise 4 babies. 9 eggs were taken by a Wren and white feathers were removed from the box. But oddly enough, when I dropped some darker feathers in the box, the wren did not remove those. But I think the successful parents were a different pair. The first male was hardly ever around but these two were the most attentive parents that I have ever seen in our yard. I hardly had a chance to take any pictures because as soon as one left the box, the other one immediately went in. They were a pleasure to watch but not so easy to take photos of because they hardly ever sat still. Taken in my yard in Calgary, Alberta.
Thank you for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.
In spite of the advanced state of decay, this location still keeps its beauty. Very difficult to access, and threatening of collapsing at any time, every step you take is a gamble of your integrity.

Elvis - "Tryin' To Get To You"
I've been traveling over mountains
Even through the valleys, too
I've been traveling night and day
I've been running all the way
Baby, trying to get to you.
Ever since I read your letter
Where you said you loved me true
I've been traveling night and day
I've been running all the way
baby, trying to get to you
When I read your loving letter
Then my heart began to sing
There were many miles between us,
But they didn't mean a thing.
I just had to reach you, baby,
In spite of all that I've been through.
I kept traveling night and day,
I kept running all the way,
Baby, trying to get to you.
Well if I had to do it over
That's exactly what I'd do,
I would travel night and day,
And I'd still run all the way,
Baby, trying to get to you.
Well, there's nothing that could hold me
Or that could keep me away from you
When your loving letter told me
That you really loved me true
Lord above me knows I love you
It was He who brought me through,
When my way was dark as night,
He would shine His brightest light,
When I was trying to get to you.

The whole Strossmayer Square is full of wonderful buildings. Most survived is spite and because of communist regime, as there was no money for new buildings. Most what was built in the post war years was did not make it into architectural history. Prague used to have uniform grayish look as many people used coals to heat and buildings exterior were never updated. Architect Richard Klenka is responsible for this building built in early 1900's and also for the better known Hotel Ambassador. Even as this building looks like a palace; just ordinary people live here.
