These are hands weighing 30 kg, the bracelets are all welded carbonised steel, they cannot be removed , and on his feet another 35 kg, also welded, the only buffer on his feet is a cloth bandadge so as not to peel the skin of his feet .
He has aged , his penance in memory of the fourth Shia Imam Zainul Abedin Sayyede Sajjad the surviving son of Hazrat Imam Hussain.Did he really survive Karbala - yes he did.
It was Sham - Damscus where the womanhood of Islam was betrayed, that prematurely killed the fourth Imam from within and without.
He aged his hair turned white overnight , he could do nothing weak , bedridden and await deliverance from the evil deeds of Yazid his captor.
And being the Imam of his time see his sister 3 year old Sakina cry and ultimately die languishing in a cell. Even Zainab the indomitable Sister of Hussain took her strength from her nephew and her Imam.. Sayyade Sajjad.
His penance and his devotion to Allah was what kept him alive.
Now please do not ask me why this Sunni born asectic whom I call Zanjirwale Bawa has taken this penance of walking life with chains, following a Shia Imam?
I was meeting him after Haji Malang pictures I have not posted as yet.
He has stopped wearing his chest armour that weighs another 45 kg, he says it tires him out, he is human and humble enough to tell me this.
We know each other for more than 5 years he was being humiliated at Chancawalli Shrine by one of the important hoodlum type person there , and its a story that saddens me the corosion in mans soul.
The man offered Rs 35 to Zanjirwale Bawa placing the money on his face and told me to take his picture I refused.
Rs 35 is an insult to both the ascetic and the memory of the Fourth Imam.
He had me thrown out of Chancawalli Dargah, this gangster man.
But while leaving the Dargah, I turned back and saw the Bawa limping behind me seeking forgiveness , I put my hand in my pocket and you wont believe it the exact amount of Rs 35 came out of my pocket .
I handed it over to the Bawa.
This is our bond and we meet at crossroads of life.
While I was going to Pune last Sunday I got a call from the Bawa that he was at Abdul Rehman Dargah at Dongri for 3 days. But I could not meet him.
On my return from Pune I completely forgot about him ,and was going to Khar with my wife , I got a call on my phone and he was trying some other persons number but he connected to me.
This time he was staying for a few hours at Shastri Nagar Santa Cruz , the following morning he was leaving for Haji Pir Dargah in Kutch.
He wished if I could see him.
I left my wife to do her work for which she had come and I set out to meet Zanjirwale Bawa towards Santa Cruz which was on my route.
He was on the 6 th floor the lift had broken down so I walked up the steps , and its here that I shot his hands.
On an early morning I found myself on the steps of Jama Masjid mosque at Fatehpur Sikri. This leads to the marble Tomb of Salim Chishti through the Buland Darwaza gate built by 16th-century Mughal emperor Akbar.

Spirituality is many things to many people.
In the simplest terms, spirituality has to do with a deeper awareness of ourselves and our surroundings. It is a personal, individual journey towards a better understanding of ourselves.
Rather than allowing the behaviour of others to determine our own behaviour, a more spiritual response might focus instead upon certain values or principles that help guide us through our day to day encounters.
Love, generosity and compassion are examples of such principles.
By incorporating these into the way we communicate with others, we can create a cycle of benevolence that not only returns to us, but helps create a ripple effect that spreads into the wider community.
The more people who behave in this manner, the more likely such values will be taken up by others.
Spirituality is also about a value driven life in which we consciously practice such things and thereby give meaning to our existence. Rather than allowing the routine of our lives to consume us, we can go about our daily affairs with a guiding framework, an internal compass that points us in a certain direction.
When we are depressed or challenged, this compass can help us navigate our way more successfully. When feeling confident or joyous, we can better appreciate why.
"The most beautiful emotion we can experience is the mystical. It is the power of all true art and science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead." -Albert Eintsein
This was a tricky photo to create. There was a green street light right behind the camera that introduced lens flare, an ugly green tint, and hard shadows on the church. I also had moths fly in front and catch the light during the sky exposure. Other exposures had more cloud cover, so I did quite a bit of editing to clean this one up.
Sky: 1 frame at 75 second shutter, ISO 800, f/2.5 LENR, tracked
Foreground: 3 frame HDR merge, 1/2/5 sec shutter, ISO 800, f/2.5, LENR
Post Processing: Capture NX-D for RAW development, ON1 Photo RAW for composition, Capture One for final editing

About a local book-talk that deals with life, death, and the afterlife. Mitch Albom and all that! My favorite parts are the clouds and flames. Big surprise there.

The Druid Calling - Eco-spirituality by Daniel Arrhakis (2025)
A Walk in the forest can also include a deeper, broader, and more spiritual connection, listening to the forest as a whole while perceiving the close link between all living beings and their environment - Eco-spirituality.
Eco-spirituality, which is one of the main principles governing the Humanist Mystic Movement, is an approach that reconnects spirituality with ecology, seeing the planet as sacred and the environmental crisis as a sign of moral and spiritual decline.
It advocates a re-connection with the Earth and nature, promoting an ethic of care that integrates science, religion, and ethics to address the climate and environmental crisis, valuing the unity of life and rejecting rampant consumerism.
This concept is not new, in fact, it takes us back to the Historical Druids, who revered nature and were spiritual leaders connected to the elements and the land. They saw themselves as part of a natural order, performing rituals tied to the solar, lunar, and seasonal cycles.
In Modern Druidism and Mysticism, the focus is often on seeking a personal, direct connection with the divine or the spiritual force within nature, rather than devotion to a specific deity.
