San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane es la obra maestra de uno de los máximos exponentes del barroco, Borromini, donde se adoptan soluciones muy innovadoras y revolucionarias con un espacio disponible muy reducido. Y el autor realiza un verdadero milagro al ampliar el espacio. La estructura de la iglesia es toda un movimiento continuo: la fachada se flexiona, cóncava y convexa a la vez. La planta es elíptica pero también es un octágono de paredes acodadas, imposible de definir en una figura geométrica precisa. Las paredes parecen estirarse en un continuo de soluciones ingeniosas al igual que la cúpula ovalada, que es única en su especie. Es un claro ejemplo de cómo la genialidad y la creatividad no siempre necesitan grandes espacios.

San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane is the masterpiece of one of the greatest exponents of the Baroque, Borromini, where highly innovative and revolutionary solutions are adopted with a very small space available. And the author performs a true miracle by expanding the space. The structure of the church is all a continuous movement: the facade flexes, concave and convex at the same time. The plan is elliptical but it is also an octagon with bent walls, impossible to define it in a precise geometric figure. The walls seem to stretch in a continuous of ingenious solutions just like the oval dome which is one of a kind. It is a clear example of how genius and creativity don't always need large spaces.
Azusa asobi is one of the most well known ritual performances in Shinto tradition. As an annual Spring performance, Azuma asobi was presented at Aoi matsuri Festival this afternoon. The performers wear a formal costume of konoe bukan, which is an entitled status as a security force in an imperial court before Japan's advent of modernity. The photograph was taken just before the performance began.
It is May and that means a lot of festivals are held in Kyoto, Japan. I am attending them as many as I can!
The reds in Japanese Blood Grass shine in the autumn. In this photo, taken in September, the early afternoon sun is behind the grass highlighting both the red and green tones.

Walking through the fields next to the village of Markyate in Hertfordshire, you might come across this. It is part of a memorial for a young woman who had died in 2016. The memorial has been attended to ever since. The place is important to the family. It is not the graveyard but the fields, nature, where you, as I did today, can hear the song of the larks descending. My feeling is that this is intended to be a place where the young woman can still be found. Where she is present, perhaps in the lark's song. Fuji X-100F.

Last night I dreamt again of being in the woods, of sitting down against the trunk of an old oak tree and just being still, as still as possible, until my heartbeat became one with that of the tree, and my toes became roots that plunged deep into the earth to where spirit and flesh and bone became part of the igneous processes. Bagan formerly Pagan is an ancient city from the 9th to 13th centuries,. The city was the capital of Myanmar. Bagan is one of Myanmar’s main attractions. It was the capital of Bagan empire, where Theravada Buddhism was the main religion. The area also known as the Bagan Archaeological Zone, occupies an impressive 26-sq-mile area. Marco Polo described Bagan as one of the finest sights in the world. Despite centuries of neglect, looting, erosion, regular earthquakes, not to mention questionable restoration, this temple-studded plain remains a remarkably impressive and unforgettable vision. Bagan’s kings commissioned more than 4000 Buddhist temples. The Ananda temple we visisted is considered to be one of the most surviving masterpiece of the Mon architecture. This impressive temple has also been titled the Westminster Abbey of Burma. Also known as the finest, largest, best preserved and most revered of the Bagan temples. During the 1975 earthquake, Ananda suffered considerable damage but has been totally restored. It is said to have been built around 1105 by King Kyanzittha.
Located just east of the city walls of Old Bagan, Ananda Pahto was the first of the great temples at Bagan and is one of the most largest and most beautiful. This symmetrical masterpiece was built around 1105 AD by a king inspired by tales of visiting Indian monks. The legend saying that there were 8 monks who arrived one day to the palace begging for alms. They told the king that once, they had lived in the Nandamula Cave temple in the Himalayas. The King was fascinated by the tales and invited the monks to return to his palace. The monks with their meditative powers they showed the king the mythical landscape of the place they have been. King Kyanzittha was overwhelmed by the sight and had a desire for building a temple which would be cool inside in the middle of the Bagan plains. After the construction of the Ananda temple, the king executed the architects just to make the style of the temple so unique. The whole architectural ornamentation is implemented in stucco-carving. In 1975 zijn er echter veel tempels afgebroken bij een grote aardbeving in Myanmar en vandaag de dag zijn nog steeds niet alle gebouwen hersteld. Tijdens ons bezoek aan Bagan huurden we fietsen. We fietsen langs alle bijzondere boeddhistische tempels in Bagan. De Ananda tempel is een prachtige tempel die wel eens de Westminster Abbey van Myanmar wordt genoemd. Behalve omwille van zijn sublieme architectuur, is de tempel ook gekend omwille van de 4 gigantische gouden staande boeddhabeelden, eentje voor elke windrichting. Hier moet je vooral komen bij volle maan tussen half december en half januari. Want dan wordt er een driedaags religieus festival gehouden waar duizenden boeddhistische pelgrims op afkomen. De grote boeddhistische tempel heeft heldere, crèmekleurige muren. De muren zijn versierd met gevels, kroonlijsten, halfzuilen en raamlijsten. Tijdens de aardbeving van 1975, leed Ananda tempel aanzienlijke schade, maar is volledig hersteld. Foto van een mediterende monnik met een kom voor aalmoezen in de passage van de tempel.

Le Thoronet Abbey (L'abbaye du Thoronet) is a former Cistercian abbey built in the late twelfth and early thirteenth century.
Le Thoronet Abbey is one of the best examples of the spirit of the Cistercian order. Even the acoustics of the church imposed a certain discipline upon the monks; because of the stone walls, which created a long echo, the monks were forced to sing slowly and perfectly together.
