A6-BMA B78X ETD LHR EGLL 2024 SPECIAL

Last night, Tuesday 3 December 2019, saw the attestation ceremony of Greater Manchester Police's latest 21 special constables.

The ceremony saw them swear the Police Oath in front of magistrate Stephen Paine JP and assume their powers as constables.

Special Constabulary Chief Officer Mike Walmsley and Assistant Chief Constable Nick Bailey welcomed the new recruits to the force.

The Special Constabulary works alongside the regular force with special constables having the same powers and responsibilities as full time officers.

The role of special constable is part-time and voluntary. The history of the office can be traced back to the Middle Ages.

The Force's Special Constabulary is an integral part of the wider policing family, providing a flexible, visible, responsive and committed resource which assists us to improve the service we deliver to the people,

Arkansas SPECIAL OLYMPICS Regional Swim Meet: Thursday, March 15, 2018.

If you happened upon the "Y" unaware this past Thursday morning (3/15/2018), you soon became aware that something "big" was happening. Parking spaces were hard to come by, large crowds were coming and going, the pool area was noisy and rocking with excitement.

This was the SPECIAL OLYMPICS swim meet for this area. One hundred, fifty-seven swimmers participated. They came from Hot Springs, Little Rock, Mena, and many other communities. Numerous volunteers pitched in to make the meet a success. I met several officers from the Hot Springs Police Dept handing out awards-- a lot of medals! There was a large group of students from Lake Hamilton High School working as timers and whatever else needed to be done. Many other volunteers, agencies and clubs were evident-- I saw tee-shirts that read "Access Gators," heard stories of swimmers from the Little Rock "Water Dragons" (check out Nathan of the "WD" team swimming the butterfly, below. That fellow can do it!).

I was proud of my "Y" leadership to coordinate such a meaningful event: Pete Davin, CEO; Linda Autry, Executive Program Director (and swim meet official); Jim Norman, Aquatics Director (another swim meet official), and the Y pool lifeguards on duty: Stephen, Cody, Compassion.

Also, I was proud of my fellow "Y" members to take this disruption in stride... hopefully, they have an idea of what a wonderful event was taking place.

Finally, I have a deeper appreciation for the swimmers and their families, who I think make us all proud of what they can accomplish. GOOD SWIM YA'LL!

Soldiers from the Colombian special forces descend from a helicopter in a simulated rescue exercise during a visit by U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and his Colombian counterpart Juan Carlos Pinzon to a military base in Tolemaida province, Ibague April 23, 2012.

This is the seat-back of a lovely bench on a footpath on the Farnley Estate at Farnley Tyas, West Yorkshire - the carved image reflects the view across the valley to Castle Hill on the edge of Huddersfield, and the words sum it up nicely. A great place to sit and reflect.

As part of my job I'm required to accompany any external medias wanting to visit the camp, guiding them and telling them about the restrictions when it comes to photography.

Here I got the chance to shoot some photos of a couple of soldiers from the special forces while guiding two journalists that were working on a case regarding the special forces.

A few months back I ventured down south to attend the Race Retro event in Coventry. To my surprise, amongst the sea of historic motorsports icons this exeptionally well specced Project 8 owned by Harry's Garage was present!

It's been awhile since the Rotterdam harbor was treated with the Saipem 7000, now we are lucky again to see number 3 in the world, Heerema Hermod.

Heerema Hermod is the third largest semi-submersible crane ship. (Fourth largest crane ship in the world) with a tandem lifting capacity of 8100tons at 39m!

Tech specs:

Max. cap. living space: 336 employees

Portside Crane

Main hoist guyed 4,000 st 26 - 39m

Main hoist revolving 3,000 st 26 - 30.5m

Auxiliary hoist 660 st 29.6 - 81m

Main hoist lifting height 92 m (302 ft) above work deck. Lowering depth of auxiliary hoist up to 3,000 m (10,000 ft) below work deck at minimum radius.

Starboard Crane

Main hoist guyed 5,000 st 24 - 40m

2nd Auxiliary hoist 660 st 30.8 - 101m

As I get a lot of questions about this ship (as was the same with the Saipem 7000, this is a ship, that is totally self-propelled and self-sufficient. It is not an offshore installation whatsoever.

I only used one flash, no color gels.

Six thirty second exposures show the little ATV 4 supply ship scurrying to catch up with the ISS. The glare from the lights on the rail bridge was overpowering. I had considered taking the telescope along too but the light pollution would have been a nightmare.
