CAMP HUMPHREYS — The A Company, 304th Expeditionary Signal Battalion hosted the second annual, 48-hour Memorial Ruck March here. The ruck march was in remembrance of those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, in the World Trade Center, Pentagon and United Flight 93.
Military Service Members, Family Members and guests from the Republic of Korea participated in the ruck march resulting in $5,568.47 being donated to the Wounded Warrior Project, which aims to raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of injured Service Members.
“The incident on Sept. 11, 2001, was an attack against liberal democracy,” said Pfc. Shin, Joon-young from A Company, 3rd Military Intelligence Battalion.
“I decided to participate in this event to remember innocent lives that were lost on that day and to never forget their sacrifice.”
The American national anthem was sung by Staff. Sgt Angela Allen, from 501st Signal Company, and the Korean national anthem was sung by Cpl. Yoon, Jae Hun, from A Company 304th ESB, during the opening ceremony.
“Sept. 11, 2001, was the day all of our lives changed forever,” said Capt. Stephanie Goggans, the commander of A Company, 304th ESB.
“The lives that were lost that day were not in vain and we will not forget their sacrifice. Today’s ruck march is proof that the American spirit and heart will survive and continue to flourish, even in America’s darkest days,” Goggans added.
The ruck march, which consisted of participants marching around a 7.7-mile course inside Camp Humphreys, lasted from 9 a.m. Sept. 14 to 9 a.m. Sept. 16.
“It (the march) is a good way to exercise and of course to remember 9/11. And it is very important to remember it,” said Spc. Zach Beugli, assigned to the 568th Medical Company (Ground Ambulance).
“I would just like to say thank you to all those who participated, volunteered, donated, or supported this event in any way,” stated Spc. Stephen Kulick from Alpha Company, 304th ESB, who founded and organized this event.
“We were able to raise a substantial donation for the Wounded Warrior Project. The support for this event was great, and next year will be even better,” Kulick added.

Took a short ride today on the Sam Hillborne and did some errands. Encountered a problem with the rear friction shifter at the start of the ride and had to stop at Goodales Bike shop. Kudos to the guys for fixing the problem quickly - just a minor mishap when they installed the kickstand yesterday apparently something was off.

I think using film for this shot showcases the true color of the Sam Hillborne vs if i were to take it with digital.

Born on Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Sgt. Ena Torres grew up in a musical family in Orlando, Fla. Her uncle, a karaoke DJ, delivered a karaoke machine to the Torres household. “You could say it was in my blood,” Ena said. “As long as I can remember, we’ve just been singing.” The clarinet, bassoon, tenor sax and piano are part of her repertoire and she yearns to learn guitar.
