Shot at Battery Point Portishead and these two ladies (social distancing) are discussing the weather and what sort of clouds are in the sky over Wales and the Bristol Channel.

Note the social spacing, are they good? You better believe it!

And yes, the cyclists are social spacing.

spacing out ~

Took this cause the number plate spacing is so far apart, could get in trouble with the police for that I think.

I am being such a lazy bastard with my China photo processing. I did this one a while ago and was waiting to upload it with a Ping'an rice field page for my blog, but since I have not been working on photos lately, I thought I would throw this into my stream.

I have to give credit to my wife for telling me I should try selective coloring with the baskets. I was going full B&W until she pointed that out. I think it made this shot 10 times better than the version I had put together.

I believe this is the result of a 3XP HDR shot with 1.33 EV spacing.

Our final destination for our day in Sintra was the Quinta da Regaleira Gardens. In addition to a wide array of plants this garden includes quite a few unusual architectural follies and features including a couple of these inverted towers, i.e. they go down into the ground, to connect a series of tunnels.

From Wikipedia : "The Initiation Wells (AKA initiatic wells or inverted towers) are two wells on the property that better resemble underground towers lined with stairs. These wells never served as water sources. Instead, they were used for ceremonial purposes that included Tarot initiation rites. The tunnels described above connect these wells to one another, in addition to various caves and other monuments located around the park. Of the two wells, the larger one contains a 27-meter spiral staircase with several small landings. The spacing of these landings, combined with the number of steps in the stairs, are linked to Tarot mysticism. The smaller well contains straight stairs that connect a series of ring-shaped floors to one another. This well is also called the 'Unfinished Well'. A structure similar to these wells can be found in the Pozzo di S. Patrizio in Italy."

"Following the abolition of thinking machines in the Butlerian Jihad, the work and the risk of mining again returned to human hands for the first time since the late 21st century. With immensely powerful cutting lasers and hard vacuum added to the already existing dangers of heavy rock and heavy machinery, the lives of asteroid mining unit operators were particularly hazardous, and many lie forever entombed inside the husks of the asteroids they gave their lives to despoil."

Now a common sight, people waiting their turn to go into a shop, or bank or surgery.

All very civilized and calm - not all things related to Coronavirus have turned out to be bad.

Actually, I liked the view right where I was. View of Lower Manhattan from Governors Island. Interesting how the one building on the right (with the close spacing of the vertical lines) presents a bit of moiré pattern until viewed large but this doesn't show in the pano image that I took from the ferry. The pattern does stick around a bit but is gone at original size. Funny that is does not appear in the pano due to either slightly different spacing or maybe because this is B&W and the other image color?

Here, in one of Judd’s so-called “progressions”, the spacing of the green elements is determined by a mathematical progression of inverse natural numbers. Describing his response to seeing Judd’s first progression in New York in 1968, former NGC curator Brydon Smith wrote, “it was love at first sight, and I couldn’t take my eyes off it … it was simple and open, yet complex … The longer I looked the more interesting it became”.

It is light that makes the space

Between the towers so large,

And shows them fair against dark,

Light who compels

The red bird to show her colour.

Light, not so to me;

Let me change to blue,

Or throw a violet shadow when I will.

Today, if all my senses act,

I’ll make your shape my own,

Grow into your delicate skin,

Feel your warm breasts rise up like flowers

And pulse to open

Your wide smile for me.

Challenge my metamorphosis,

And you will break my spacing light.

Mock me,

And see my colour snap,

Glass to your hands

Endowed with fearsome strength.

But if I break love suffers,

There’ll be my bone to go:

Or, let you destroy for ever,

And rend my bright flesh away,

Twining my limbs around those hands.

Never break but feel the sudden ache,

The agony return.

You’ll have me crack in thought again,

Crush my sharp light,

And chip, in silence and dark

Your rock of sound.

Had EQM-35 Returned from DarkFrame. Some issues with mount. Tested. Terrible Dec performance. Possibly cable snags (cables affect balance more than normal). Also first real outing with Chroma LoGlow and the SpaceCat51. Have some tilt/spacing issues. Still to sort out. Orion is in a very light polluted part of the sky. 10 x 120s with Altair 26C + Chroma LoGlow.

One common name for this spider is "Writing Spider", and it's easy to see why. This one is a juvenile with a mess of "writing", but even when they're adults, you'll find a line of zigzag down the middle. You can see from this shot to the next that different genera of spiders create different forms of stabilimenta in their webs. This one reflects UV light, and that leads to theories that the purpose is to attract prey. Many flowers have markings visible only in the ultraviolet spectrum which act as "runway signals" for insects, to guide them in for pollination. The theory goes that perhaps these act in a similar way, fooling insects into thinking this is an attractive flower.

Another theory suggests that, rather than attracting prey, the stabilimentum is there to disguise the spider and protect it from predators, or make it look larger than it is and dissuade them that way. I have to say, looking at this one, the spacing of the zigzag and that of the rings on the spider's legs certainly lend to the spider disappearing into the pattern.

…the unique blue and grey image found underneath the railway bridge on the corner of Davenport and Caledonia Roads brings life to a relatively dull intersection that is slowly emerging out of its industrial past.

The image of choice here is a departure from the colour saturated pastoral or streetscape scenes that are often depicted in murals. In fact, with its use of muted colours, the mural succeeds in being a piece of art that inspires contemplation. The layered images of graffiti over pigeons are a statement of sorts — pigeons and graffiti are often blamed for the defacement of public art, but in this case, they have become art. It is as if the artist decided to celebrate the two great banes of public space, all the while evoking a backstreet urban attitude that compliments the blue collar history of the neighbourhood.

L'ancienne chapelle de Côte Saint-Luc.

Construction: vers 1845.

On our first visit to Radio Road this year, we spotted this juvenile Forster's Tern. The Forster's Tern breeds primarily in marshes and winters along the coasts. The comma-shaped black ear patch in winter plumage is distinctive, but some other plumages are so varied as to be downright confusing. The Tern breeds in loose colonies, with spacing dictated by arrangement of good nesting sites. It can be aggressive toward other birds in the vicinity of its nest.

Something about the pattern in the branches caused me to stop immediately for this shot. The ground was steep so this wasn't entirely easy on my feet. I had to have this one, though.

. . . If you are a maple tree, this is the perfect shape to be in! Symmetrical and allowing good spacing between major branches to allow the most amount of light to the leaves.

It is so perfect that I may have to come back to "Coyote Valley" and document this tree in all of the seasons. Have a great week Facebook and Flickr friends.
