The LIbra soul, an upcoming impress band of a friend. This photo is a collage of a few clicks from the bands photo shoot.
I made 40 original 4 x 4 pages for the Art & Soul Hampton Fat Book. Half I did in a Zetti style, and half in an Alphabet of the Sea style. These are almost done, just awaiting embellishments of ribbons, fibers, charms and other danglies, then out the door they go! I used watercolor paper which I painted with acrylics, matte medium and gesso. Then I rubber stamped with distress inks and Christine Adolph designs from Stampington. Next I collaged or drew my main art, and added glitter, gel pens, marker, water color etc. All images drawn by me, unless part of a collage or rubber stamped image.
In Disney and Pixar’s “Soul,” a middle-school band teacher finds himself in The Great Before—a fantastical place where new souls get their personalities, quirks and interests before they go to Earth. Unfortunately, Joe Gardner (voice of Jamie Foxx) doesn’t feel like he belongs in this land of new souls. Determined to return to his life, he teams up with a precocious soul, 22 (voice of Tina Fey), who has never understood the appeal of the human experience. Directed by Academy Award® winner Pete Docter, co-directed by Kemp Powers and produced by Academy Award® nominee Dana Murray, p.g.a., “Soul” will debut exclusively on Disney+ (where Disney+ is available) on December 25, 2020. ©2020 Disney/Pixar. "The All Souls Procession is perhaps one of the most important, inclusive and authentic public ceremonies in North America today. The Procession had its beginnings in 1990 with a ritualistic performance piece created by local artist Susan Johnson, who was grieving the passing of her father. Inspired by Mexico’s Dia de los Muertos holiday, Johnson felt she should honor her father in celebration and creativity. The performance was very well received and many artists were inspired to continue growing the Procession into its modern incarnation." (Description from Website) Following Susan's lead, thousands gather each year, dressed and made up in the style of Dia de los Muertos, and most carry a photo tribute to a loved one who has passed.
The soul is seeking karmic intervention through “Reflection, Meditation and Perception, gradually gaining a higher status in the realm of the spiritual world. In this elevated state, the soul is continuously yearning for enlightenment.
Artist’s narration:
In this painting, the soul has awakened to the fact that there are two distinct entities – the immortal soul and perishable body. The sitting, meditative position depicts this awakened state. The deep blue, red and black twirling circles show the continuous turmoil of the soul and its struggle to maintain spiritual progress. During this spiritual progression, the soul encounters many challenges, but it rises above the entrapment. In this awakened state, the soul is on its way to a higher spiritual journey, indicated by the vertical path above the red circle of mental turbulence. This is the second of three paintings of the soul’s journey.
