Enjoy the view while eating ♥

My parents took me to this exhibition about the mystical Soma, a drink that's supposed to enlighten you. To us it was like a zoo, only a pretty lame one with very few animals. No enlightenment for us!

The famous Backwaters in Kerala, South India are water bodies formed by the backward flow of seawater due to an obstruction in the natural current.

Kerala backwaters are blessed with immense beauty and provides for a relaxing atmosphere. The ecosystem of the backwaters combines that of freshwater as well as that of the sea. It supports a large variety of flora and fauna such as frogs, fishes, crabs, mudskippers, otters etc. Along the length of the backwaters, one could see a close up of life in rural Kerala.

'Kettuvalloms' or houseboats are naturally made boats used for transportation through the lengths of the backwaters. They are entirely made of environment friendly materials and do not have any nails to keep it together. It is the coir ropes that do that job. Nowadays houseboats are made in a more lavish and luxurious style and has become an icon of beauty. They are built with all the arrangements necessary for a comfortable accommodation -bedrooms, toilets, kitchen, living area etc. The backwater cruises in houseboats is a favourite activity in Kerala and is a major attraction for tourists from around the world.

Soma

Lyrics by Michael Vance

Music by Will Maples

Soma, Soma, touch me

be me

lie by my side

Give a love that never was and could never be

Something in her eyes blinding me

She’s blond in the summer, wearing nothing but sand

She’s silver in the city, warm and woman in my hand

Rising from the sheets, she sings me

She’s coffee in the morning, giving meaning to day

I’m hidden in my paper, cold and sleepy from my stay

Rising from the sheets, she sings me

Soma, Soma, touch me

be me

lie by my side

Give a love that never was and could never be

Something in her eyes blinding me

She’s blond in the summer, wearing nothing but sand

She’s silver in the city, warm and woman in my hand

Rising from the sheets, she stings me

Soma, mellow in bed, her song fills my head

Soma, sweet with rain, somechimes she’ll please the pain

Soma (Sanskrit: ???)

n. pl. so·ma·ta (-m-t) or so·mas

1. The entire body of an organism, exclusive of the germ cells.

2. See cell body.

3. The body of an individual as contrasted with the mind or psyche.

Both Soma and the Avestan Haoma are derived from Proto-Indo-Iranian *sauma-. The name of the Scythian tribe Hauma-varga is related to the word, and probably connected with the ritual. The word is derived from an Indo-Iranian root *sav- (Sanskrit sav-) “to press”, i.e. *sav-ma- is the drink prepared by pressing the stalks of a plant (cf. es-presso). The root is probably Proto-Indo-European (*sewh-), and also appears in son (from *suhnu-, “pressed out” i.e. “newly born”).

Aaron Kunkle and Adam Lundberg welcome the first years on behalf of SOMA.

Cheers!

This was my Soma Cross frame before I built it up. I had just installed a Crank Brothers headset. This bike went through many incarnations and was stolen in one of it's more expensive phases. Sucks. This was a great bike.
