SLS Booster Work Continues after Major Test

Orbital ATK technicians detach the center forward segment from the forward segment of NASA's five-segment booster that fired up for testing March 11 at Orbital ATK's test facility in Promontory, Utah. The two-minute static test was the first of two ground tests to support qualification of the boosters that will help launch the first flight of NASA's new rocket--the Space Launch System (SLS). The most powerful launch vehicle ever built, SLS will take humans and cargo on deep space missions, including an asteroid and ultimately to Mars. Disassembly and inspection of the booster is ongoing, but preliminary analysis of the test data shows all test objectives were successfully completed during the hot fire. The second qualification test is planned for early 2016. Once qualified, flight booster hardware will undergo final manufacturing and preparation for shipment to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida for the rocket's first unmanned flight.

Its a couple of months left until its nice to go out and shoot again, but it didn't stop me from taking out this SLS on a quickie. The location wasn't really optional so I just tried doing the best out of the situation. I planned this to be a DOF shot, but I forgot to pack my 70-200 before I took off. But I'll make up for it another day.. More cooming soon!

Hamburg, 2nd April of 2011

Me and a friend were just going down a street when we

recognized an SLS, so we took some first photos and

suddenly we saw that this SLS was no normal one...

It was the only and first prototype of the SLS Roadster!

I was just like "WTF" and this car was definetly my topspot that weekend!!

The tiltle says all: An Aston Martin V8 Vantage N400, a Mercedes SLS AMG and an Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante. I've seen three N400s last year in Nuremberg and there are only 240 in the world. I've caught the SLS that day before with an opened door, but the shot got ugly. Obstmarkt. 12.03.2011
