OM 2n, S Zuiko 35 - 70mm / 1:3.5 - 4.5. Winder #2, Data Back #3. This is the camera that was paraded around as a prototype prior to the introduction of the OM 1. The amazing, (for the time,) TTL flash capabilities along with extended slow shutter speeds made for an attractive package for selling the marque.
The mechanical OM 1 did not dissappoint but fell a bit short of this camera. The OM 1n came closer. Those folks that acquired the OM 1 were not disappointed. AND, it took 3 years, (1972 - 1975,) before this camera and all of it's innovations came to market.
The single most significant feature that I think made the camera a success was it's ability to read both ambient and flash-generated light. The metering system will allow the shutter to stay open longer than the light generated by the flash indicated - if required. The indicated exposure compensation, (+2 ,.-2,) being visible in the viewfinder was pretty trick for the time too.
Since the camera was out and being used I took the opportunity to spiff it up a little bit and take a proper portrait. The little Canon S95 does a good job of it.
Another car-boot bargain! Actually, this one was a bit rich for me at £40 - it's a Canon EOS 50e Film SLR with a Canon 28-80mm USM EF Lens. (It also came with a case, Cokin A Filter holder and a selection of Cokin FIlters).
There's too many functions to describe, but the one I find really cool is the way it tracks your eye to decide which Auto Focus point to use. If you're looking in the middle of the frame, it uses that one, but if you look to the right or left if selects those respective AF points....!
Here's a more in-depth look at the camera.
Apart from being a great film SLR, hopefully I'll now be able to pick up a cheap, second hand digital back that'll be compatible with the lens...
